Founded in 2024 as an ETH Zurich spin-off, RIVR developed wheeled-legged robots designed to operate in complex, unstructured environments such as stairs, gates, doors, and uneven urban terrain. Job Description
As a Robotics Field Engineer at Amazon RIVR, you will be the critical link between our advanced robotics technology and real-world deployment. You will serve as Tier 2 technical support, acting as the primary interface for other Amazon teams when complex issues arise in the field. This role is designed for a technical problem-solver who excels at Root Cause Analysis (RCA) and enjoys the challenge of debugging hardware and software in live environments. Beyond troubleshooting, you will play a strategic role in our development cycle by providing real-world operational insights to our QA teams, ensuring our test cases reflect the unpredictable nature of the field.

In this hands-on role, you will serve as the critical link between our software engineering team and real-world deployment environments. You will execute, monitor, and troubleshoot software systems in active warehouse and industrial settings, ensuring seamless sensor deployments and high-quality execution across field operations. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Execute software front-ends (GUI and command-line interfaces) in field warehouse environments • Troubleshoot software execution issues in real-time, ensuring minimal disruption to operations • Collaborate closely with the broader software engineering team on issue diagnosis and continuous improvement • Manage and monitor the quality of software execution in real-time during deployments • Deploy and configure arrays of sensors into industrial warehouse settings • Unpack, assemble, configure, disassemble, and transport technical equipment to and from field sites • Maintain clear, accurate documentation of deployments, issues, and resolutions REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • 4+ years of experience in a relevant technical field role • Willingness and ability to travel to field sites as required • Basic Python scripting ability for automation or diagnostics • Proficiency with Linux, Bash, and/or Zsh environments • Strong hands-on ability to unpack, assemble, disassemble, and transport technical equipment • Demonstrated documentation skills — able to produce clear, thorough technical records • Strong problem-solving skills with comfort working in fast-paced, dynamic environments • Effective communicator — able to relay technical findings to both field and remote engineering teams PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS (BONUS POINTS) The following are not required but will make your application stand out: Software & Systems • Familiarity with motion capture ecosystems: Optitrack, Manus, StretchSense, or Rokoko • Experience with AR/VR headsets or Zed stereo cameras • Experience with AWS CLI and foundational cloud services • Experience with real-time monitoring tools • Experience with remote system administration Hardware & Connectivity • Knowledge of hardware communication protocols: I2C, SPI, UART • Experience deploying sensor arrays or IoT devices in the field • Familiarity with industrial automation or warehouse management systems Documentation & Operations • Experience writing technical documentation, SOPs, or deployment guides • Experience with machine shop tools and physical fabrication Salary Range • $110,000-$120,000/K • The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, age, genetic information, or pregnancy. About the Job At Gravis, we operate at the intersection of hardware, software, and real-world deployment. Our Rooftop Autonomous Control Kit (RACK) integrates sensing, compute, communication, and networking into a manufacturer-agnostic solution deployable across a wide range of construction machines. As a Field Robotics Engineer, you will play a central role in delivering customer projects and ensuring our systems meet the highest standards of reliability and performance. This hybrid position combines hands-on technical execution with ownership of customer deployment projects from planning through delivery. You will work closely with R&D and Operations to coordinate end-to-end deployments, continuously improving how we plan, test, and deliver our solutions. You will lead on-site setup and commissioning, engage directly with customers throughout project execution, and help translate complex robotic system behavior into reliable real-world performance.
