OUR COMMERCIAL LEGAL TEAM ARE LOOKING FOR AN EXPERIENCED SENIOR COMMERCIAL COUNSEL TO JOIN THEM.  Commercial Legal partners with the business, providing specialised legal, commercial and risk management support to enable confident growth. Everything from shaping and negotiating client contracts, to data, technology and AI deals, partnerships and contract risk.  This role will report into the Commercial Legal Director, working closely with the Legal & Business Integrity and Baringa Enablement teams and wider firm leadership. It is a senior, team-leadership role: you will lead and line-manage a team of commercial lawyers – setting priorities, overseeing their work and supporting their development – alongside running your own caseload. We are looking for a high-energy senior commercial lawyer, with strong experience in digital contracting (data, technology delivery, AI, cloud, etc) and the ability to lead and develop a team, to join Baringa’s Commercial Legal team.   WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING * Leading and line-managing a team of commercial lawyers – allocating and overseeing work, managing performance, and supporting their development and progression.  * Acting as a senior lawyer in the Commercial Legal team, leading on complex digital deals (data, technology delivery, AI and cloud) across a broad range of commercial contracts.  * Supporting the wider Legal team and Baringa business with best practice guidance, continuous improvement and training.  * Preparing and negotiating contracts, working closely with the consultancy staff and engagement partner. These will include One-off Services Agreements, Framework Agreements, Licence Agreements, Sub-contracts, etc.  * Delivering contract risk analysis to Baringa’s senior management and arranging for escalation of higher risk contract items to Baringa’s wider Sector Lead group for approval.  * Critically evaluating, challenging and updating Baringa’s Contract Risk Scorecard positions.   * Liaising with Baringa’s insurance brokers to ensure client contract language during negotiation remains within coverage.  * Coaching, developing and supporting the lawyers in your team, helping them grow and progress their careers at Baringa.  This is a critical role in the Baringa Commercial Legal team, working directly with partners and senior leadership across the firm, and coordinating with others across Baringa Enablement (People, Finance, Data, IT, Infosec and others).   YOUR SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE *  Qualified solicitor or barrister in England & Wales or a commonwealth country, with a minimum of 6 years of post-qualification experience.  * Strong commercial law experience with deep, demonstrable expertise in digital contracting – cloud, data, AI and technology delivery and implementation. This digital experience is essential and central to the role.  * Confident negotiator with the skillset to handle complex discussions with large international clients, banks and their external law firm advisors.  * Understanding of international business practices and cultures.  * Proven ability to lead, line-manage and develop a team of lawyers, and to work effectively with senior stakeholders.  * Strong commercial risk assessment and sound, pragmatic judgement – able to identify, weigh and clearly articulate legal and commercial risk and make confident recommendations to senior stakeholders.  * Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex legal and contractual issues for non-legal audiences and to deliver clear guidance and training.  * Highly organised and resilient, able to manage a varied caseload, prioritise effectively and deliver to deadlines in a fast-paced environment while overseeing the work of the team.  * A continuous-improvement mindset, including developing precedents, playbooks and best-practice guidance; familiarity with legal technology and contract lifecycle management (CLM) tools is an advantage.  * Working knowledge of the data protection and regulatory issues relevant to data, technology and AI contracting.  WHAT A CAREER AT BARINGA WILL GIVE YOU  PUTTING PEOPLE FIRST. The Legal team supports Datadog’s rapid growth by providing a wide range of legal services across a highly dynamic technology company, from driving new business via contracts and compliance efforts, to protecting Datadog’s offerings. Datadog’s Legal team collaborates with virtually every team across the organization, from engineering to product to marketing. Within Legal, the Commercial, Alliances & Procurement team focuses on all commercial engagements, channel and alliances agreements, procurement matters, and related legal topics across Datadog’s global footprint. The position requires someone who can negotiate complex agreements with Indian customers, have deep expertise in navigating the legal regulatory landscape in India and South East Asia while also supporting broader APJ commercial activity. You will also have the opportunity to influence and refine Datadog’s contracting and compliance approach across these fast-evolving markets. The role involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams including Sales, Deal Desk, Procurement, and Privacy. You will be expected to provide strong, practical solutions that balance legal risk with business objectives. This position will also give you exposure to cutting-edge SaaS technology areas such as privacy, security, and AI, allowing you to stay at the forefront of the industry. What You’ll Do: * Negotiate and close a variety of commercial agreements and ancillary documents to support customer sales and partner engagements across India and South East Asia. * Lead negotiations with Indian customers across all regions, as well as South East Asia customers, including from regulated sectors like BFSI. * Deliver practical and decisive legal guidance to internal business teams, exercising sound judgment on risk trade-offs and escalation decisions, functioning as a trusted advisor who translates business needs into contractual commitments and actionable legal advice. * Coach sales team members on negotiation strategies for Indian and South East Asia customers, including delivery of regular internal training sessions and office hours. * Support the ongoing improvement of contract templates, playbooks, and processes in line with emerging laws and regulations in India and South East Asia. * Support knowledge-sharing and mentorship across the Commercial Legal team, contributing to broader team initiatives and special projects. * Build and maintain strong relationships with Datadog stakeholders across the APJ region, including Deal Desk, People/HR, Procurement, and regional sales leadership. Who You Are:  * A seasoned lawyer (qualified in Singapore or another relevant jurisdiction) with at least 8 years’ law firm and/or in-house commercial transactional experience across Indian and other South East Asian jurisdictions,  * Someone with deep expertise in advising on Indian law and/or navigating its complex regulatory environments. As we grow rapidly across India, and expect many customers and prospects to sit in highly regulated industries like BFSI, this role will demand someone who can confidently navigate the complex and evolving regulatory landscape and the sector specific requirements our customers and prospects in India and South East Asia operate within. * Someone possessing strong familiarity with negotiating SaaS contracts, and related technology areas such as privacy, security, intellectual property, and AI. * Fluent in English, with excellent written and verbal communication skills. Given the requirements of the role (particularly in supporting business and customers in India) conversational Hindi or Tamil and/or proficiency in one or more other another South East Asian language(s) would be valuable to enable negotiations, participate in customer meetings and collaboration with teams needed to support and build trust directly with customers and stakeholders in the India and South East Asia markets this role will support. * Someone who thrives in negotiating, communicating, educating, and comfortable leading sensitive conversations with both legal and business counterparts. * Someone with integrity, excellent judgment, and a high degree of emotional intelligence. You build strong collaboration channels with peers and stakeholders across the business and identify pathways to success with our customers. * Comfortable working independently, adhering to established processes, and able to recognize when to seek guidance. * Excited to drive contracts to closure and are comfortable partnering with clients in sales, where you will prioritize multiple deals simultaneously while supporting tight deadlines. * Able to work out of our Singapore office on a hybrid basis and serve as a local point of contact for the Legal Department in the region.
