Come join the Server Ingress Security team, where we are rearchitecting MongoDB Server’s ingress networking to make MongoDB clusters even more secure. This new team is building the Atlas Network Protection layer, a set of performant, security-critical services that harden MongoDB's pre-authentication attack surface and provides the ability to respond rapidly to emergent threats. We are looking for talented Staff Engineers to join the team and be founding members, where you will play a crucial role in our multi-year roadmap. CANDIDATE PROFILE * 10+ years of experience building production-quality systems software with a large user base, robust design structure, and rigorous code quality * Experience with large backend/compiled codebases and performance-sensitive software, preferably in Rust  * Bonus points for experience working hands-on in security-sensitive or networking-adjacent domains * Strong systems fundamentals, including multi-threaded programming and performance profiling. Bonus points for: * Understanding of network protocols, TLS, and connection lifecycle management. * Familiarity with security concepts such as attack surface reduction, input validation, memory safety, and defense-in-depth architectures. * Excellent verbal and written technical communication skills for communicating to a wide variety of audiences ranging from junior engineers to executive stakeholder * Strong mentorship skills, and excitement about leveling up your peers and teammates through coaching, feedback, and enablement * Strong time management skills and the ability to realistically assess project complexity * B.Sc. in Computer Science or a related field, or equivalent practical experience, with strong competencies in data structures, algorithms, and software design/architecture. Interest in the theory and practice of high-availability, security-critical systems * Passion for learning new things in the domains of computer science and software engineering POSITION EXPECTATIONS * Define and drive the technical strategy for Ingress Security, in collaboration with stakeholders across Server, Atlas, SRE, and Product Security * Own the definition, planning, and execution of technical plans to deliver solutions to ambiguous, high-impact security and networking problems * Design, implement, and operate production-ready security services in Rust, with a focus on security, correctness, performance, and operational excellence * Collaborate with Engineering leadership and other Product & Technology teams on roadmaps to improve the security posture of MongoDB's ingress stack * Advise across the team and organization on engineering complexity, risk, and inter-project dependencies * Handle time-sensitive escalations and production incidents that require expert support from Ingress Security * Diagnose test failures, identify bugs, performance regressions, and other defects in existing code, and fix them * Interview candidates for software engineering positions, and work with Engineering leadership to cultivate the team's talent bench for long-term growth and success * Develop and maintain expertise on relevant cutting-edge research in systems security, network security, and memory-safe systems programming from industry and academia SUCCESS MEASURES * In the first month: Understand the high-level architecture of the Atlas Network Protection layer, set up your development environment, and resolve a few bugs * In three months: Contribute substantially to the Rust development of a current project or milestone, take on code review responsibilities, and participate in reviewing designs for new features * In six months: Independently lead the development of major a new feature and help mentor new engineers on the team * In twelve months: Drive the Planning, Design, and Execution of major improvements to our security, availability, performance, or operational capabilities ABOUT MONGODB MongoDB is built for change, empowering our customers and our people to innovate at the speed of the market. We need an experienced Staff Software Engineer / Tech Lead to deeply understand these plants and help us automate and improve them. You: * Own technical direction. You make the call on how core systems are designed and built, not just on the code in front of you - and you can justify those calls in terms of pace, reliability, and what the business needs next. * Raise the bar of strong engineers around you. Not via management, but via shipped work, the architecture you set, and the questions you ask in PRs and design reviews. * Have experience working with a high degree of autonomy, quickly and with a large set of competing problems to tackle (and enjoy it!). * Have experience taking products from 0 to 1 (and then from 1 to 100!) - and have made the architectural decisions that let a system survive that transition. * Are excited about deploying technology at real-world industrial sites. * Can take a problem from "I saw something that could be improved at a plant" to a shipped feature in our app deploying at the plant, end-to-end, within a sprint or two. * Can work closely with customers - assessing (not just blindly following) what they say, observing their operations and understanding what is the critical thing to impact. * Are interested in commercial questions (how much do we charge for this?), deployment (what's the right UI for forklift engineers wearing gloves?) and AI/ML (what can we build that is 10x better than their current ERP process?). * Can work shoulder-to-shoulder with our ML team. You don't train models but turn their outputs into something a forklift driver and a procurement manager both want to use. At CoMind, we are developing a non-invasive neuromonitoring technology that will result in a new era of clinical brain monitoring. THE ROLE: The Software team at CoMind spans the full stack of a regulated medical device company — from embedded and real-time systems through application software, ML inference, GUI, DevOps, and test engineering. It is a team that builds across every layer, working to medical device software standards and shipping software that has to perform reliably in clinical environments. As a Staff Software Engineer, you will be a technical authority within the Software team, owning complex technical problems in embedded and real-time C++ development. You will work across hardware abstraction, real-time data acquisition, and system integration, bringing the depth of experience needed to architect and deliver software that performs reliably in a regulated, safety-critical context. At CoMind, all team members work at least 4 days per week from our new Kings Cross office, plus a flexible work-from-home day. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Design, implement, and maintain high-performance embedded and real-time software components in C++, including hardware abstraction layers, device drivers, and data acquisition pipelines. * Define and drive technical strategy, proactively identifying and mitigating cross-team dependencies and technical debt while setting the long-term vision for embedded architecture. * Act as a technical bridge, synthesising and communicating complex architectural decisions to non-technical stakeholders (including Product, Clinical, and Regulatory teams) to ensure alignment on project goals. * Mentor and grow engineers, fostering a culture of technical excellence, code quality, and professional development within the broader software team. * Ensure software quality through code review, unit and integration testing, and strict adherence to CoMind’s software development lifecycle under IEC 62304. * Collaborate with electronics and FPGA teams on hardware-software interfaces, supporting hardware bring-up, system integration, and complex debug. * Contribute to risk management and design documentation activities, including software hazard analysis and traceability in line with ISO 14971 and CoMind’s QMS. * Participate in design reviews, sprint planning, and cross-functional technical forums, contributing to a high-performance engineering culture. * AI is fundamental to our culture — it's not just a tool, but a core part of how we work, collaborate, and innovate.
