Ready to do the most impactful work of your career? At Coinbase, we are uncompromising on our mission to increase economic freedom. The bar is high, the environment is intense, and we like it that way. This isn't a place for complacency, it’s a place to be pushed past your perceived limits. If you're ready to build the future of finance alongside people who refuse to settle for "good enough," you belong here. Coinbase is a remote-first, but not remote-only company. Expect to get together quarterly for intense in-person working sessions called “surges.” learn more about working at Coinbase. Coinbase's Legal organization is at an inflection point. We manage corporate governance for 60+ global subsidiaries, public company reporting, equity programs, a venture portfolio, M&A, every institutional client agreement, and product counsel for all of Coinbase's PGs — from tokenized equities to stablecoin launches. Our clients are the CEO, COO, and every product group at the company. We work at the speed of a crypto startup with the compliance requirements of a public financial institution. We are not looking to incrementally improve. We are looking to reimagine how legal work gets done at scale — replacing manual, high-volume workflows with AI-native systems, building an agent platform where today's junior lawyers become tomorrow's agent builders, and proving a model for how every non-technical org at Coinbase can transform with AI. We have a roadmap, we have playbooks, and we have deep domain knowledge. What we need now is a technical architect to build the platform that brings this vision to life. WHAT YOU'LL DO: * Architect and build Legal AI infrastructure — Design and ship a platform of AI agents and automated workflows that replace high-volume, templated legal work including institutional client agreement redlining, SEC filing support, subsidiary governance workflows, and commercial deal processing. * Own the institutional client agreement automation system — Our highest-priority use case: build an end-to-end agentic workflow that ingests counterparty markups, evaluates them against a structured playbook, generates a first-pass redline with comments, routes for human review, and tracks outcomes. This is a production-grade system affecting hundreds of institutional clients in pipeline. * Build a cohesive agent platform and governance layer — Consolidate a fragmented set of ad-hoc bots and agents into a consistent, documented, maintainable platform with naming conventions, personas, observability, and standards for how Legal agents are built and deployed. * Act as the technical thought partner to the VP and the broader Legal leadership team — Translate complex legal workflows into engineered systems, and translate engineering constraints back to non-technical stakeholders. The ability to bridge these worlds is as important as the engineering itself. * Define the make-vs-buy strategy — Evaluate and retire third-party legal tech tools in favor of purpose-built internal solutions where Coinbase's engineering strength gives us a structural advantage. * Be the case study — This role is explicitly designed to be a pilot for forward-deployed engineering in non-technical organizations at Coinbase. Success here creates the playbook for how other functions (Finance, HR, Operations) can undergo the same transformation. REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE: * 12+ years of backend software engineering experience, with a track record of shipping production systems at scale * Proven experience getting LLM-based applications to production — including evaluation frameworks, grounding, guardrails against hallucination, and human-in-the-loop design * Multi-agent orchestration experience — you've designed and operated systems where multiple AI agents collaborate, hand off work, and escalate to humans appropriately * Exceptional ability to communicate with and learn from non-technical domain experts — you don't need to know legal terminology on day one, but you need to rapidly internalize complex workflows and translate them into engineered systems * Platform mindset — you think in primitives, reusability, and standards, not just point solutions * Distributed systems fundamentals — the agreement automation system will touch document processing, structured playbook evaluation, routing logic, and audit trails; you need to architect this correctly from day one * Relentless drive to set and achieve ambitious goals in ambiguous, greenfield environments * Demonstrates the ability to responsibly use generative AI tools and copilots (e.g., LibreChat, Gemini, Glean) in daily workflows, continuously learn as tools evolve, and apply human-in-the-loop practices to deliver business-ready outputs Job ID: P77646 Pay Transparency Notice: Base salary varies by location (see range below). Total compensation may also include equity and bonus eligibility, and benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401(k)). Annual base salary range (excluding equity and bonus): $253,895—$298,700 USD * Application Limit: Candidates may submit a maximum of 3 applications within a 6-month period. * Equal Opportunity Employer: Coinbase is an Equal Opportunity Employer. ABOUT HYPEREXPONENTIAL (HX) At hyperexponential, we're building the AI-powered platform that enables the world's most critical decisions in a $7 trillion industry - which risks to take, and how to price them. These are the decisions that shape real-world outcomes: whether rockets successfully launch into space, autonomous vehicles make it to market, or communities recover after major storms. Until now, insurance has been making billion-dollar decisions using outdated tools. We're changing that. Our platform brings together data, AI, and human expertise to give insurers the fastest path from submission to decision - helping them move faster, act smarter, and take on more risk with confidence. Backed by a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery Ventures, we're scaling globally - already trusted by nearly 50 of the world's largest insurers, with zero churn and billions in premiums flowing through hx. What began as a single product in one market has rapidly evolved into a multi-product, multi-territory platform powering every stage of pricing and underwriting. AI is at the core of what we do - from building the world's first domain-specific AI peer programmer for insurance (think GitHub Copilot with a PhD in actuarial science) to shaping agentic workflows that reinvent how this industry operates. What makes hx different is the people who build it. Here, impact isn't tied to title or tenure; it's defined by the challenges you take on and the discipline you bring. Surrounded by peers who stretch you, you'll do the best, hardest work of your life in a company engineered to endure. If that sounds like you, join us in building what comes next. ABOUT THE TEAM The Customer and Consulting team sits at the heart of how hx delivers lasting value to its clients. As hx continues to expand across global carriers, reinsurers, and specialist MGAs, this team ensures that customers don't just adopt the platform, they transform the way they price and underwrite risk. The post-sale Solution Architect is a critical part of that mission, responsible for making sure the hx platform is deeply embedded in customer ecosystems, from reporting pipelines to security infrastructure and third-party integrations. This is a team that operates at the intersection of technical depth and customer partnership. The work is hands-on and high-stakes: translating complex customer environments into durable, scalable technical solutions, while building the kind of trusted relationships that drive adoption, margin, and long-term value. You will work closely with Customer Success and Delivery colleagues, acting as the technical anchor across multi-threaded customer engagements. The team is growing, and there is real scope to shape how the Solution Architect function scales. Whether you are designing AI-first delivery artefacts, contributing reusable patterns to a shared toolkit, or presenting architecture decisions to a Chief Information Officer, your work will directly influence the outcomes customers achieve, and the reputation hx builds in the market. Check out our Client Services Candidate Hub for a behind the scenes look at the team you would be joining! WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING * Own the technical relationship with a portfolio of strategic customers, becoming the trusted advisor who anticipates challenges, aligns delivery to outcomes, and ensures the hx platform is embedded confidently within each customer's ecosystem. * Design and deliver bespoke integrations between hx and a range of customer technologies, including policy administration systems, data warehouses, BI tooling, and identity providers, applying sound architectural judgement throughout. * Drive customer adoption and platform usage by developing structured value realisation plans that translate technical delivery into measurable business outcomes, including faster quote turnarounds, reduced pricing errors, and stronger MI capability. * Build AI-first consulting and delivery artefacts that raise the bar for how the team works, creating reusable frameworks, templates, and innovation outputs that can be shared across the broader SA toolkit. * Support project margin outcomes by managing delivery scope, surfacing risks early, and coordinating effectively with Customer Success Managers, Delivery Leads, and customer-side technical teams. * Contribute to team capability by sharing patterns, leading internal show-and-tell sessions, and helping to codify best practices as the Solution Architect function grows and scales. WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO HAVE DONE * Able to code to a high standard using Python. * Supported the technical delivery of SaaS platform integrations in a team setting. It’s beneficial if you also have experience with AWS architecture, SQL, and a foundational understanding from a computer science or software development background. * Built and maintained positive technical relationships with colleagues and stakeholders, including IT and data teams, by communicating effectively across different priorities and environments. * Helped communicate technical choices and delivery progress to non-technical stakeholders, using clear, outcome-driven explanations that link integration work to business value. * Gained experience in a post-sale or customer-facing technical role—such as Junior Solution Architect, Technical Support, or Implementation Analyst—where you supported the delivery process or customer needs. * Used AI or automation tools to enhance the quality, speed, or consistency of your work, with an understanding of where these technologies can add value. * Supported the management of delivery processes, such as helping to plan project phases, identify risks, or coordinate with internal or external teams to meet project timelines. YOU'RE UNLIKELY TO THRIVE HERE IF * You prefer to stay in a narrow technical lane and hand off customer communication to others; this role requires genuine ownership across both the technical design and the stakeholder relationship. * You need a fully defined brief before getting started; ambiguity is a constant here, and the best work comes from people who move confidently without waiting for perfect information. * You measure success by delivery completion rather than customer outcomes; at hx, adoption, margin, and measurable value are the real bar. If reading our Culture Document leaves you feeling neutral rather than energised, hx may not be the place where you'll do your best work. We're building something that asks for commitment and conviction, and we want you to feel excited by the opportunity to grow with us. COMPENSATION At hx, we're committed to salary transparency. You'll always have clarity on pay early in the process - our Talent Partner will share details with you during initial conversations - and we're working towards publishing salary information for all roles globally.
