What you’ll do
Right now, we are looking for an Automation Lead for our Meltshop. In this role you will report to our Electrical and Automation Manager. The team is responsible for ensuring safe, reliable, and efficient plant operations.
Specific to this role, the day-to-day tasks will include the following but as we are a growing company with very little silos between teams, other tasks might be included as well.
Act as the technical expert in instrumentation, electrical, and automation systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations.
Lead troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and problem-solving for complex or recurring technical issues.
Mentor and develop the competence of electrical and automation team members.
Collaborate with maintenance, production, and engineering to align technical solutions with operational goals.
Ensure compliance with Swedish electrical regulations and internal safety standards.
Drive continuous improvement through preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and process optimization initiatives.

Specific to this role, we would like to see that you can tick off a fair amount of the boxes below:
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Automation, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
Proven experience in electrical and automation systems within heavy industry (preferably steel or metallurgical).
Strong knowledge of PLCs, drives, sensors, HMI/SCADA, and industrial communication systems.
Demonstrated ability in complex troubleshooting, process optimization, and team mentorship.
Certified Electrician (according to Swedish standards).
Additional certifications in automation or control systems.
Familiarity with CMMS systems and preventive maintenance standards.
Knowledge of Swedish electrical regulations and industrial safety standards.

Stegra is on a mission to change the global steel industry by producing green hydrogen, iron, and steel - with the goal of eliminating CO₂ emissions. Instead of coal, we use green hydrogen and fossil-free electricity, meaning our primary emissions will be water and heat.
By 2030, our ambition is to produce 5 million tonnes of green steel annually in our fully integrated, digitized, and sustainable plant in Boden, Northern Sweden - currently under construction. Electrical Lead Meltshop The Electrical Lead will be responsible for overseeing all electrical activities in the Meltshop area. This includes ensuring smooth operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of electrical systems and equipment. The Electrical Lead will manage both day and shift labor, ensuring effective coordination and alignment of the electrical team with production needs. This role plays a critical part in maintaining safety, efficiency, and compliance with electrical standards. Responsibilities: Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems and equipment. Collaborate with the Electrical & Automation Manager to implement preventative maintenance programs. Lead troubleshooting and corrective maintenance for electrical equipment to minimize downtime and ensure high availability. Ensure all electrical systems meet regulatory standards and comply with company safety policies and procedures. Participate in root cause analysis for any equipment failures and work with other departments to resolve issues efficiently. Support automation and control systems to ensure seamless operation of processes. Provide training and development for the electrical team, fostering continuous improvement and skill growth. Coordinate with production teams to align maintenance and project schedules with operational needs. Maintain detailed documentation of electrical work, maintenance records, and ensure proper inventory of electrical components. Complete all tasks as directed by the manager and fulfill all assigned responsibilities. Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree, preferably in electrical engineering or a related field or equivalent practical experience. Significant experience in industrial electrical systems, preferably in a steel or metallurgical environment. Hands-on experience with PLCs, drives, and electrical control systems. Leadership experience, preferably managing shift labor. Understanding of metallurgical production processes. Knowledge of safety regulations, electrical standards, and maintenance best practices. Electrical system troubleshooting and diagnostics. Familiarity with safety protocols in heavy industrial environments. You have strong communication and leadership abilities that enable you to lead complex research and development projects, often in collaboration with other departments, consultants, universities, and industry partners. You have experience in a ventilation-related role within the mining industry, with a preference for hands-on industry experience over purely academic work. Advanced modelling skills in Ventsim are preferable, and you have practical experience working with mine ventilation automation and control systems, such as ventilation-on-demand applications or air quality monitoring system design. Knowledge of Ventsim Control, Deswik software, and other mine ventilation control software like ABB Ability Ventilation Optimizer is considered a strong asset. You show interest in health and safety, sustainability, and continuous learning, and find excitement in new ideas and thinking outside the box. M.Sc. level or higher education in mining is required.
