Gemkom Engineering and Machinery Filial is a newly established branch of the Turkish company Gemkom. It is a leading engineering and manufacturing company that operates in a number of areas and in various ways within the steel industry.
We are participating in a project where Stegra AB establishes a steel mill in Norra Svartbyn in Boden where steel will be produced through an almost fossil-free process using hydrogen gas. Our mission is, among other things, to install machines used in steel production and includes work in mechanics, electronics and plumbing.
We are seeking diligent Maintenance Technicians to join our team for the preservation and protection of mechanical equipment at a DRI plant. This role focuses on ensuring that machinery, currently stored or installed in open-air environments without HVAC systems, remains in optimal condition through rigorous preservation protocols. The work tasks may include but are not limited to:
Job Description
Environmental Protection: Implement measures to protect exposed machinery and equipment from adverse weather conditions and humidity.
Corrosion Control: Apply VCI (Volatile Corrosion Inhibitor) treatments and other surface protection methods to machined parts and sensitive surfaces.
Mechanical Maintenance: Perform routine greasing of bearings and execute periodic shaft rotations (turning) to prevent equipment degradation.
Climate Management: Monitor and implement heating solutions for specific machinery components as required by technical specifications.
Inventory & Documentation: Keep accurate records of all preservation activities and periodic maintenance cycles.
Desirable qualifications (not mandatory)
Experience: Minimum 1 year of experience in mechanical maintenance or industrial preservation.
Education: Vocational training or certification in Mechanical Maintenance, Industrial Technology, or a related field.
Technical Skills: Familiarity with mechanical machine elements & assemblies. Also, knowledge about specialized greases and surface corrosion protection applications.
Physical Capability: Fully comfortable for working at heights.
Mindset: High attention to detail and a proactive approach to preventing equipment damage. Knowledge about periodical maintenance.

Participate in inspections, fault finding, and continuous improvement activities. Contribute to maintaining a safe, clean, and organized working environment. Follow established maintenance routines, safety procedures, and company standards. What you’ll bring Experience working as a mechanic in industrial, manufacturing, or heavy industry environments. Practical knowledge of mechanical maintenance and troubleshooting. Experience with hydraulic and pneumatic systems is considered an advantage. Relevant vocational education in mechanics, maintenance, or a related technical field — or equivalent practical experience. Good understanding of workplace safety standards and safe maintenance practices. Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment. Willingness to work shifts when required. Good knowledge of English; Swedish is a plus. As a Process Operator in the briquetting section of the DRI Plant you will play a critical role in ensuring the efficient and smooth operation of the briquetting process. Your responsibility is to monitor, control, and optimize production to ensure continuous operations and high-quality Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI). What you’ll do: Actively contribute to a safe work environment by following and promoting safety protocols and participating in process control improvements. Ensure briquetting process meets quality specifications and operational parameters for HBI production. Monitor, inspect, and maintain briquette machines, conveyors (metal and rubber), dust collection systems, and related equipment. Perform field operations, including starting and stopping briquette machines and carrying out roll-in, roll-out operations. Use control systems and safety tools such as Permit-to-Work (PTW) and Lockout/Tagout/Tryout (LOTOTO) systems. What you’ll bring: Experience in DRI plant briquette operations, including troubleshooting and problem-solving. Preferably hands-on experience in hot or cold briquetting processes. Experience working with conveyors, dust collection systems, and relevant mechanical equipment. Familiarity with operating in a safety-driven industrial environment using PPE correctly. High school diploma in a relevant field or equivalent education preferred. All relevant certificates required to perform the job. Oral and written proficiency in English is required; Swedish is considered an advantage.
