Propulsion AIT Engineer, you will be responsible for leading the industrialisation, assembly, integration and testing of our Storm
and Typhoon engines.
This position requires a hands-on engineer who enjoys solving complex technical problems, defining robust assembly processes and
leading critical AIT operations from component level to full engine testing.

As a talented Propulsion Structural Engineer, you will be responsible for the design, justification, testing and validation of the mechanical structure of the propulsion system and its interfaces with the primary structure. ROLE OVERVIEW Structural Analysis & Technical Ownership * Review static and dynamic load inputs, material properties, test data, and component requirements to properly set up structural analysis cases. * Produce stress and fatigue analysis results with detailed validation methodologies and rigorous justification of the propulsion system's structural margins, applying the standards (including fracture control) required for NASA certification. * Assess the integration of of-the-shelf equipment to the propulsion system within the overall system considering their qualified loads * Own the structural substantiation of propulsion components and structures from concept through qualification, ensuring traceability between requirements, analysis, and test. * Design Collaboration & Mechanical Development * Work closely with design engineers to validate mechanical sizing and help them iterate through designs as efficiently as possible. * Design simple mechanical components from scratch and propose creative structural solutions to design engineers, drawing on analysis results and hands-on experience. * Support trade studies on structural architecture, materials, and joint design for propulsion structures and brackets. * Test Campaign Development & Support * Develop and support hardware test campaigns — coupon or sub-assembly testing — to gather analysis inputs or validation data. * Define test objectives and success criteria in coordination with test engineering, and correlate test results back into analysis models. * Identify appropriate test platforms and instrumentation needs for structural verification. * Support non-conformities analyses and resolve process * Anomaly Investigation & Non-Conformance Management * Act as a key contributor to anomaly investigations, performing root cause analyses on structural damage or unexpected test/flight behavior. * Justify non-conformities against structural requirements and support disposition decisions with sound engineering rationale. * Feed lessons learned from anomalies back into design standards and analysis practices. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES LOCATION You will perform your duties principally at the Company's premises in Bordeaux and may be required to travel from time to time to our company’s premises in Munich in the course of your duties. WHAT WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE FROM YOU * 5+ years of hands-on experience in structural analysis for launch vehicles, spacecraft, or space capsules, ideally with exposure to liquid propulsion structures and systems. * Strong command of FEA tools (NASTRAN or equivalent) complemented by solid hand-calculation skills, for both static and dynamic (vibration, shock, fatigue) load cases. * Familiarity with the standards and processes required for structural certification (e.g. NASA-STD-5001, ECSS, or equivalent), and experience producing analysis reports that hold up under formal review. * Working knowledge of CAD environments (CATIA, NX, or equivalent), sufficient to review, sketch, and propose mechanical design changes. * Experience supporting or running test campaigns, from test definition through correlation of results with predictions. * A track record of contributing to anomaly investigations or non-conformance dispositions in a hardware-delivery environment. Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run. At The Exploration Company, we are developing next-generation space transportation systems, including a lunar lander capable of precision landing and reusable operations. To support this effort, we are establishing a dedicated remote test site in the United Arab Emirates to perform hot-fire propulsion testing and hopper flight demonstrations. As a Lunar Lander Test Bench Development Engineer, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of this new test facility from concept to operations. The role combines propulsion test infrastructure design, cryogenic fluid systems engineering, civil infrastructure coordination, and end-to-end project execution in a remote environment. This position requires periodic travel to the UAE during site development, commissioning, and operations phases. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES / TASKS In this role, your responsibilities will evolve with project maturity. Day-to-day duties will include: Test Site Development * Define and synthesize system-level requirements for a remote lunar lander test site supporting hot firing and hopper flight testing. * Lead the design and implementation of the complete facility, including ground infrastructure and utilities. * Specify and implement propellant and pressurization systems including Liquid Oxygen, Liquid Methane, Helium, and Nitrogen. * Design infrastructure enabling autonomous operation of a remote site (power generation, storage, logistics, safety systems). Fluid and Cryogenic Systems Engineering * Develop P&IDs for propulsion test facilities and associated ground support equipment. * Design, size, and select components for cryogenic and high-pressure fluid systems. * Ensure safe handling, storage, and distribution of cryogenic propellants and pressurants. Infrastructure and Civil Engineering Coordination * Define facility layout, foundations, structural interfaces, and site infrastructure requirements. * Coordinate with civil engineering partners to implement test stands, safety perimeters, and support buildings. Safety, Automation, and Operations * Define and implement automation architectures for test operations and facility control, including safe connections with the vehicle to test. * Develop and validate safety-critical systems protecting personnel, hardware, and environment. * Perform hazard analyses (FMEA, HAZOP, risk assessments) and implement mitigation measures. * Develop test procedures, operational concepts, and commissioning plans. Project Leadership * Lead end-to-end development of the test facility including design, procurement, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and operations readiness. * Manage technical interfaces with internal teams, customers, and external suppliers. * Perform trade-off analyses to optimize performance, safety, cost, and schedule. * Support on-site deployment, integration, and test campaigns. WHAT WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE FROM YOU * Degree in aerospace engineering, mechanical engineering, energy systems, or a related field. * 5+ years of experience in propulsion test facilities or hot-fire test bench development. * Strong expertise in fluid systems engineering, including cryogenic propellants. * Experience designing or operating ground support equipment for rocket propulsion systems. * Knowledge of automation systems and safety-critical control architectures for industrial or test environments. * Experience coordinating infrastructure or facility development in industrial or remote environments. * Demonstrated project management capability across multidisciplinary engineering activities. * Hands-on engineering mindset with strong problem-solving ability. * Excellent communication skills and ability to work across international teams. * Willingness to travel to and work periodically in the United Arab Emirates. We are seeking a High-Thrust Engine Chief Engineer to lead the technical vision, architecture, and strategic direction of the Storm program, our next-gen high-thrust cryogenic rocket engine using LOX/LCH4. You will be the technical authority for the high-thrust engine development program. This role is responsible for ensuring technical coherence across all domains and aligning engineering execution with company goals and mission objectives. The Storm Chief Engineer serves as the senior technical authority for the program, guiding engineering leadership, setting design and performance standards, and ensuring system-level integrity and mission success. You'll own the technical integrity, performance, and safety of the engine throughout its lifecycle, from architecture definition to prototype testing. The Storm Chief Engineer will work closely with the Storm Lead and the Head of Propulsion (reports to), ensuring that engineering excellence and delivery efficiency remain balanced. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: * Technical Leadership and Vision Define and communicate the technical vision and roadmap for the Storm propulsion system in collaboration with the High Thrust Engine Lead, ensuring alignment with company strategy, mission objectives, and long-term scalability. * System Architecture Ownership Serve as the primary owner of the Storm system architecture, ensuring optimal integration across propulsion, structures, avionics, and operations. Lead technical reviews. Arbitrate complex system trade-off * Mentorship and Technical Oversight Provide guidance and mentorship to the team, fostering a culture of technical rigor, innovation, and accountability. * Risk Management & Safety Identify, assess, and manage technical risks at the system level with the support of the team and their principals. Lead critical design and readiness reviews, ensuring robust decision-making and risk mitigation strategies. Approve all non-conformance waivers or design deviations. * Collaboration Support business development, partner engagement, and customer interactions by representing the technical capabilities and vision of the Storm program. Coordinate with the Storm Lead on technical milestones, test readiness, and risk assessments. Work closely with program management and other engineering domains to balance performance, cost, and schedule, while maintaining technical integrity. * Continuous Improvement Drive continuous improvement in engineering tools, methodologies, and team capability to ensure Storm remains at the forefront of propulsion technology. WHAT WE WOULD LOVE TO SEE FROM YOU: * A minimum of a master’s degree in propulsion engineering, systems engineering, aerospace engineering, or a related field. * Over 15 years of experience in liquid rocket engine development, including at least one full-scale or prototype program, with experience in production/industrialisation * Deep understanding of cryogenic propulsion systems, including design, integration, and test. * Proven track record of defining and delivering complex aerospace systems from concept through flight. * Experience collaborating with European space agencies. * Proven ability to lead multi-disciplinary technical teams and arbitrate complex design trades. * Demonstrated experience managing system-level requirements, interfaces, and verification activities. * Experience in engine hot-fire testing and anomaly resolution. * Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to influence across engineering, program, and executive teams. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to make sound technical decisions under uncertainty, schedule and cost pressure. * Proven ability to work with geographically distributed teams and coordinating with external partners or suppliers. * Positive, adaptable, and collaborative mindset, capable of inspiring excellence across the organization. * Fluency in English.
