ABOUT THE TEAM This role is part of the Data Science team, which is the largest department in our organization, consisting of close to 200 Data Scientists throughout the world. Our Data Scientists work in a full-lifecycle role across a broad range of subjects, acquiring extensive technical and professional experience in data science, data engineering, software engineering, business understanding, and client engagement. TEAM IMPACT & FOCUS * The Data Science team actively participates in the definition and development of our suite of products focused on fraud detection, anti-money laundering, and claim automation. * We possess deep technical and professional experience across coding, data science, data engineering, and client interactions. * We work with a highly diverse set of data types, including structured data, free text, documents, and images. * Our company is small enough that each person’s achievements have an impact on our overall performance, yet big enough to be a world leader and innovator in our domain. * You will work alongside technical experts, playing a key role in deploying our enterprise-level solutions to our clients. * Local Context: You will be joining the Brazilian Data Science team, which works mostly for US Property & Casualty (P&C) customers. Our main focus is deploying solutions to new clients, maintaining client production, and contributing to the development of our Fraud Detection Solution. ROLE PURPOSE & RESPONSIBILITIES As an intern, your primary purpose is to learn and support the deployment of Shift Technology’s solutions to clients and help maintain existing production environments. Working alongside technical experts and senior data scientists, you will assist with: * Client Implementation Support: Assist with Claim Fraud Detection (CFD) setups for new clients, focusing on learning ETL configuration, detection implementation, and workflow automation. * Feature Deployment: Help roll out new platform features to existing client environments. * Pipeline Optimization: Participate in driving continuous improvements across existing client environments and data pipelines. * Collaborative Engagement: Interact with internal teams to understand client roadmaps, collect user feedback, and review solution performance. REQUIREMENTS & SKILLS * Education: Currently pursuing a degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. * Software Engineering Foundations: A strong background or academic experience in an Object-Oriented Programming (OOP) language (such as C#, C/C++, or Java) and SQL. You should be eager to learn how to write maintainable, production-quality code. * AI Awareness: Academic knowledge or a clear understanding of statistics, machine learning, and data solutions, with the ability to communicate these concepts clearly. * Business & Client Mindset: Comfort or willingness to learn how to interact with stakeholders , alongside an eagerness to master the business aspects of our insurance products. * Collaboration & Language: A dedicated team player who works effectively across diverse, multidisciplinary teams. Fluency in English with good overall communication skills is a strict requirement.   To be eligible for this position, applicants must be in their final year of university, with a graduation date projected for some time between June and December 2027. Furthermore, candidates are required to be currently enrolled at a university in São Paulo and must have the availability to work from our local office at least one day each week. Under the guidance of senior engineers, this includes participating in managing data pipelines, executing ETL processes, and developing, testing, tuning, and deploying fraud detection models.  Working alongside experienced team members within a designated pod of clients, you will execute the following duties: * Client Implementation Support: Assist in implementing Claim Fraud Detection (CFD) for new clients, focusing on ETL setup, detection implementation, and workflow automation. * Feature Deployment: Help roll out new platform features to existing clients. * Optimization: Contribute to continuous improvements across existing client environments and pipelines. * Stakeholder Engagement: Collaborate with internal teams to collect user feedback, help prepare business case materials, and assist in reporting regularly on solution performance to stakeholders. Requirements & Skills We are looking for a recently graduated candidate or a professional with 1 to 2 years of experience in a similar technical environment (such as deployment engineering, data science, data engineering, or software engineering).  * Software Engineering: A strong background in an OOP language (such as C#, C/C++, or Java) and SQL. We thrive on people who can write maintainable, production-quality code that runs every day without breaking. * AI Competency: AI-savvy with a clear understanding of statistics, machine learning, and data solutions. Must be able to communicate these concepts internally and explain how the product works to clients. * Client Interaction: Client-facing comfort. You need to be open to communicating directly with our clients on a regular basis. * Business Acumen: Business smart. We do not expect prior knowledge of the insurance sector, but you must be eager to learn and master the business aspects of our products. * Collaboration: A dedicated team player who works effectively with a diverse group of people and collaborates well across multiple teams. * Language: Fluency in English alongside good overall communication skills is a strict requirement. You will own the full lifecycle of your models - from idea to production - working closely with Data Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, and Energy Market Experts to ensure our forecasting stack runs smoothly and is continuously improving. This is a hands-on role focussed on time-series modelling, rapid experimentation, and the ability to translate data into high-impact operational decisions. What You’ll Do: Build & maintain short term operational forecasting models for energy volumes & prices that drive our trading decisions on a day-to-day basis Build time series models to understand and explain recurring patterns across different measurements, products and regions to distill signals as features for your next model Prototype quickly: iterate on simple models, validate rigorously, and scale what works in a dynamic market environment Own the full model lifecycle: EDA, feature engineering, model development, validation, deployment and continuous evaluation, supported by our team of DEs, MLEs & Energy Market Experts Write your models in Python, version your code in Git, use CI/CD to ensure full reproducibility Partner with DEs to evaluate and integrate new data sources (weather, grid conditions, market signals) Collaborate & mentor across other data scientists, quants and engineers.
