ABOUT THE ROLE We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer (Backend/Infrastructure) for the VTEX Network team ,the core connective tissue of our cloud platform: CDN, Cloud Connectivity, Ingress, DNS, and Service Mesh. You'll take on one of our hardest engineering challenges: evolving our Service Mesh. Today VTEX runs a custom, highly performant router (built in .NET) that acts as our service mesh, processing millions of requests per second as the backbone for every VTEX application. Your mission is to help evolve this mission-critical infrastructure toward a market-standard stack (like Istio) with zero downtime and the reliability thousands of stores depend on. This sits at the deep intersection of software engineering and scalable infrastructure, and it rewards real care for performance, resilience, and system architecture. ABOUT THE TEAM The Cloud Network team ensures the reliability, scalability, and performance of the platform that powers thousands of stores worldwide. As part of a recent transformation, we're building a new generation of infrastructure systems: Service Mesh, networking, and compute layers. Our goal is a platform where infrastructure complexity is abstracted away, so engineers move faster without trading off reliability or performance. WHAT YOU WILL DO * Drive the architectural evolution from our custom routing layer to a modern, market-standard Service Mesh (e.g., Istio); * Design, build, and maintain network components that sustain millions of requests per second at very low latency; * Keep VTEX's core network services (Ingress, DNS, Service Mesh, CDN) continuously available and resilient for thousands of stores globally; * Apply deep service-design principles to build scalable, robust, maintainable backend services and infrastructure tooling; * Use AI as a daily multiplier (for development, refactoring legacy internals, testing, and documentation) while exercising judgment about where it does and doesn't belong in critical infrastructure; * Raise the team's bar: mentor other engineers, document for both technical and non-technical audiences, and take an active part in hiring. WHO YOU ARE * A strong backend/platform engineer with deep, hands-on experience operating and evolving Kubernetes infrastructure; * You've designed and run systems for mission-critical, high-throughput environments (millions of requests per second), and you're at home troubleshooting them under pressure; * You know service design and distributed systems well, including networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, HTTP, DNS, proxies) and microservices communication; * You're comfortable working inside complex legacy systems while building their replacement. Experience with .NET is a real plus for understanding and refactoring our current router; familiarity with Service Mesh (Istio, Envoy) is highly desired; * You treat ambiguous, high-stakes problems as yours to make precise, and you weigh decisions by their effect on the whole system, not just your component; * You use AI fluently in your own work and have a clear point of view on when it helps and when it doesn't; * You communicate and negotiate technical trade-offs clearly across teams, and with non-technical partners; * Advanced English for our global, remote-first environment. HOW WE HIRE Our process is built for how engineers actually work in 2026: a take-home you complete with the AI tools you'd really use, followed by a live session where we dig into your decisions and solve a problem together. We're far more interested in how you think than in whether you memorized an algorithm. #LI-Remote ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ABOUT VTEX VTEX (NYSE: VTEX) is the composable and complete commerce platform that delivers more efficiency and less maintenance to organizations seeking to make smarter IT investments and modernize their tech stack.
