Working with a high-volume client base, you’ll be responsible for reducing involuntary and voluntary churn through a disciplined data-driven email retention programme. You'll work with a high-volume client base to design and execute targeted campaigns that reduce churn, with a particular focus on the free period and the first year of paid monthly subscriptions. You’ll use CRM data, behavioural signals, and usage patterns to identify at-risk or disengaged clients and proactively intervene through scalable marketing initiatives. Key Responsibilities * Own and continuously optimise the end-to-end email retention programme for the month-to-month subscriber base. * Design, build and iterate save flows targeting subscribers at elevated churn risk, using behavioural and transactional signals to trigger timely interventions. * Develop and maintain segmentation frameworks that reflect subscription tenure, engagement depth and cancel-intent indicators. * Run a structured testing programme across subject lines, send cadence, offer mechanics, and message framing to improve save rates and reduce passive churn. * Monitor and report on core retention email metrics: save rate, cancel deflection, reactivation rate, open-to-save conversion, and revenue retained. * Partner with our Business Information Team to identify leading churn indicators and feed these into automated trigger logic. * Collaborate with Director of Lifecycle Marketing and other stakeholders to ensure retention email activity is sequenced correctly and does not conflict with acquisition or engagement programmes. * Work with the Legal Team to ensure all retention communications meet regulatory. You'll own the onboarding experience - running structured welcome calls with new clients, walking them through what we do, what to expect from our team, and what their key obligations are as a business. This is a client-facing role at its core: you'll spend the majority of your time on video calls, building rapport with startup founders and small business owners and making a complex topic feel simple and reassuring. Key Responsibilities * Lead 30–45 minute structured onboarding video calls with new clients using a prepared script, covering our services, their statutory obligations, and what they can expect from us * Walk clients through their key responsibilities in a clear, jargon-free way, including relevant compliance milestones like filing deadlines, VAT and PAYE registration, and Corporation Tax * Give clients a guided orientation of their accounting tools (e.g. Xero), so they feel confident from day one * Identify additional services a client may need (e.g. payroll, VAT) and flag these internally for follow-up * Ensure all client details are accurately captured in internal systems * Document and hand over all relevant information to the Customer Service and Retention teams at the close of onboarding * Spot early risks (e.g. clients who seem disengaged or behind on setup) and escalate to relevant stakeholders * Contribute to refining the onboarding process and improving the client experience over time What We're Looking For * Proven experience running client-facing onboarding calls, welcome calls, or structured video-based client sessions - this is the most important thing we're hiring for * A natural communicator: warm, structured, and able to put people at ease on a call * Comfortable following and adapting a prepared script while keeping the conversation feeling natural * Confident explaining processes and obligations to clients who are new to accounting and business admin * Basic familiarity with UK statutory requirements for small businesses (e.g. Corporation Tax, Self-Assessment, VAT thresholds, PAYE) - you don't need to be an accountant, but you should be able to explain these clearly to a first-time founder * Any experience with cloud accounting platforms like Xero or QuickBooks is a bonus. This is a hands-on role suited to someone who thrives in a fast-paced, scaling business and is comfortable balancing firm-but-fair collections with the kind of client relationship management that protects long-term retention. Key Responsibilities * Manage the end-to-end collections process for a portfolio of client accounts, chasing outstanding invoices via phone and/or email. * Reconcile customer accounts and resolve queries or disputes in collaboration with the accountancy service delivery team * Monitor aged debt reports and proactively flag at-risk accounts, escalating in line with credit control policy * Set appropriate credit limits and payment terms for new and existing clients, working with onboarding and sales teams * Liaise closely with the Accountancy-as-a-Service team to ensure billing accuracy and resolve any discrepancies between service delivery and invoicing * Maintain accurate, up-to-date records of collections activity, promises to pay, and account notes in the finance system * Produce regular debtor reports and cashflow forecasts for the finance leadership team * Negotiate payment plans for clients in financial difficulty, balancing commercial sensitivity with cash collection targets * Support month-end close by ensuring debtor ledger accuracy and minimising bad debt provisions * Identify process improvements to reduce DSO (Days Sales Outstanding) and improve collections efficiency What We Are Looking For * Proven experience in a credit control or collections role, ideally within a B2B, subscription, or professional services environment * Experience working with or alongside accountancy, bookkeeping, or financial services products is highly desirable * Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to manage difficult conversations professionally * Confident using accounting/finance software (e.g. Xero, Sage, or similar) and comfortable with Excel/Google Sheets for reporting * A commercially minded approach - understanding that credit control decisions can affect wider client relationships * Highly organised, with strong attention to detail and the ability to manage a high volume of accounts * CICM qualification (or working towards) is a plus but not essential * A collaborative mindset, comfortable working cross-functionally with accountancy, sales, and onboarding teams What We Offer * £32-35k and comprehensive benefits package * Hybrid working model * Real opportunities for progression as the business scales * The chance to influence both customer experience and product development * A culture that values ownership, impact, and continuous learning Equal Opportunities 1st Formations is an equal opportunity employer and is committed to creating a diverse and inclusive workplace.
