The successful candidate will play a key role in maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing a wide range of production and site equipment to ensure maximum operational efficiency and minimal downtime. As a Multi-Skilled Engineer you will: * Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance on electrical and mechanical systems, including conveyors, motors, control panels, and automated machinery. * Diagnose electrical faults and perform repairs in accordance with safety standards and manufacturer guidelines. * Support continuous improvement initiatives and contribute to engineering projects aimed at increasing equipment reliability and performance. * Maintain accurate maintenance records using the company’s CMMS system. * Ensure compliance with all relevant Health & Safety, environmental, and quality standards. * Provide technical support and collaborate closely with production and operations teams. What skills and experience do I need for this role? * Time-served apprenticeship or relevant engineering qualification (NVQ Level 3 / ONC / HNC) in Electrical or Multi-Skilled Maintenance Engineering. * Proven experience in a similar maintenance engineering role within a manufacturing, FMCG, or industrial environment. * Strong electrical fault-finding and diagnostic skills, with a solid understanding of PLCs, sensors, drives, and control systems. * Basic mechanical skills (e.g., bearings, pneumatics, hydraulics). * Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and schematics. * Excellent problem-solving ability and attention to detail. * Flexible, team-oriented, and capable of working independently under pressure. Desirable: * 18th Edition IET Wiring Regulations. * Experience with automated systems, robotics, or packaging machinery. * Knowledge of lean maintenance or continuous improvement practices (TPM, Kaizen, 5S). Silex Microsystems is the world’s leading pure-play MEMS foundry, customizing solutions for prominent global clients in industries such as pharmaceuticals, consumer electronics, and automotive. We are currently looking for a Service Technician to join our Backend Area, helping to ensure the uptime of our machines. Read more about Silex here. About the team The Backend area is a vital part of our production, where in the area we perform all outgoing quality control of our products, conducting electrical measurements and optical inspections. We also work with blade and stealth dicing, wafer thinning, and CMP (chemical mechanical planarization). There is a team of 19 people working in the Backend area, out of which four are working with service (three Service Technicians and one Maintenance Engineer). About the role As a Service Technician at Silex, you will play a crucial role in ensuring our high-tech equipment is operational in production through maintenance, operations, and service tasks, all conducted in cleanroom environments. The equipment you will work with involves electronics, pneumatics, mechanical systems, chemistry, and gases. You will collaborate with skilled colleagues, including area managers, process engineers, and operators. Each day begins with a handover from the previous shift, after which tasks are planned and divided among the Service Technicians. There will be a mix of planned and unplanned service activities, and we are continuously working to improve the uptime of our machinery to reduce unplanned tool stops. We want you to participate in, and help drive, continuous improvements in the area. The working hours for this position will be night shift, Monday night–Friday morning 22:30–07:00. For the first couple of months you will receive training on another shift (day, evening) and then transfer to the night shift. You will be the only Service Technician from Backend on the shift, but there will be Service Technicians present working in other areas of the fab as well as operators running our machines. In this role, you will Perform preventive maintenance on equipment. Carry out diagnostics, troubleshooting, and repairs on machinery. Be responsible for scheduled and unscheduled service activities. Coordinate service activities within the area alongside the area manager and other service technicians. Support new installations as well as modifications and upgrades of existing machines. Ensure that equipment and machinery follow Silex’s policies for providing a safe work environment. We are looking for someone who Has 3+ years' work experience in equipment service and maintenance within an industrial environment. Can troubleshoot effectively, using both electrical and mechanical understanding of the equipment. Is able to read electrical drawings and use them to aid in troubleshooting. Has good reading skills in Swedish; speaking Swedish is an advantage. Is proficient in English, both written and spoken. Is able to work independently and lead oneself. Works in a meticulous, structured, and detail-oriented way. Has the drive and curiosity to learn and grow together with Silex. Role Overview The Senior Authorised Person – Mechanical (SAP) is responsible for the safe control of hazardous energy (COHE) for mechanical and electro‑mechanical systems on site. The role focuses on the implementation, management, and governance of mechanical Safe Systems of Work (SSoW) across complex, high‑risk environments such as data centres and multi‑fuel power generation facilities. The SAP will coordinate closely with mechanical and electrical Authorised Persons, vendors, client and vendor commissioning managers, and health & safety teams to ensure all mechanical activities are planned, executed, and reinstated safely and compliantly. Systems under the SAP’s control may include, but are not limited to: - Multi‑fuel generating plant - Diesel fire pumps and sprinkler systems - Fuel oil, lubricating oil, oily water, and urea systems - Treated water and compressed air systems - Cooling systems (HVAC, chilled water) - Exhaust and air inlet/outlet systems - Fire suppression systems - Natural gas systems Key Responsibilities · Act as the Senior Authorised Person for mechanical systems, managing and enforcing Global Commissioning’s Safe Systems of Work. · Implement and control mechanical isolations, lock‑out/tag‑out (LOTO), drain‑downs, pressure relief, testing, and safe reinstatement. · Issue, manage, suspend, and cancel mechanical Permits to Work and associated safety documentation. · Review and approve Risk Assessments and Method Statements (RAMS) for mechanical works. · Oversee pre‑functional testing, pressure testing, flushing, chemical cleaning, and commissioning readiness activities. · Attend and contribute to commissioning, coordination, and safety meetings. · Coordinate mechanical commissioning activities with electrical and controls teams. · Attend and support Functional Performance Testing (FPT) of critical systems. · Carry out final inspections and “white glove” reviews prior to system handover. · Ensure compliance with site safety procedures, mechanical standards, and applicable legislation. · Maintain effective communication between contractors, vendors, and client stakeholders. · Support incident response, emergency situations, and high‑risk operations when required. Leadership & Management · Provide leadership and supervision to mechanical teams, contractors, and subcontractors. · Manage complex and high‑risk mechanical activities in live or operational environments. · Demonstrate strong decision‑making under pressure, particularly during isolations, reinstatements, and fault conditions. · Promote a strong safety culture and proactive hazard identification. Qualifications - Essential - Completion of a recognised mechanical trade apprenticeship or equivalent hands‑on mechanical qualification. - CSCS / Safe Pass. - SMSTS or SSSTS. - Desirable - HNC, HND, or BEng (Hons) in Mechanical Engineering or Building Services Engineering. - Certified Mechanical AP/SAP training. Skills & Technical Knowledge · Extensive hands‑on experience with industrial mechanical plant, systems, and equipment. · Proven expertise in mechanical isolations, LOTO, and hazardous energy control. · Strong working knowledge of: o HVAC and cooling systems o Natural gas and fuel oil systems o Pressure systems and rotating equipment o Mechanical plant associated with power generation and data centres · Sound understanding of commissioning processes and documentation (Cx Plans, FAT, SAT, ITPs). · Familiarity with ATEX and DSEAR regulations. · Strong understanding of Irish, UK, and EU health, safety, and environmental legislation, including HSA requirements. · Fully proficient in Microsoft Office applications. Experience Essential - Minimum of 5 years’ experience in mechanical commissioning, maintenance supervision, or as a Mechanical Authorised Person / Senior Authorised Person. - Proven ability to manage multiple contractors and coordinate complex mechanical systems during commissioning. Desirable - Experience in data centres, power generation, pharmaceutical, offshore, or other high‑hazard / critical infrastructure environments. - Previous roles such as Mechanical AP, Mechanical Maintenance Supervisor, Plant Shift Leader, or Lead Commissioning Engineer.
