Job Summary · As a CMF Designer for our Client, you will support CMF development for one or more vehicle programs, translating strategic direction into production-ready design solutions. · You will create creative proposals, support and coordinate cross-functional collaboration. Key Responsibilities · Support on CMF development for assigned vehicle programs from concept (DSM0) to launch (J1) · Assist in delivering complete CMF proposals including colour, material, and finish specifications incl. technical drawings for quilt and perforation patterns · Translate CMF strategy into feasible and production-ready design solutions · Collaborate with designers, engineers, modelers, visualization experts, trimmers, and painters · Coordinate with suppliers for exterior paint, soft trim, and decorative materials · Develop macro-level CMF themes and detailed design elements (quilting, textures, mesh patterns) · Produce high-quality visual presentations, renders, and storytelling materials · Support sustainability initiatives and material innovation exploration · Mentor CMF designers and support team knowledge sharing · Present CMF proposals confidently to internal/external stakeholders and leadership Experience: · Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Industrial Design, Transportation Design, or related field · 2-5 years of CMF experience, preferably within automotive industry · Proven experience delivering production-ready CMF programs · Experience working with cross-functional and global teams · Experience presenting to senior stakeholders Competence: · Strong creative vision and CMF storytelling capability · Ability to independently lead CMF programs · Strong understanding of materials, finishes, and manufacturing feasibility · Excellent collaboration and communication skills · Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator · Ability to create high-quality renders in VRED or Blender · Familiarity with Rhino or Blender is a plus · Knowledge of generative AI tools is an advantage · Strong organizational and prioritization skills in fast-paced environments Personal attributes · Adaptable and comfortable navigating fast-paced, dynamic, and sometimes unpredictable environments. · Possesses a proactive, solutions-oriented, and entrepreneurial mindset. · Structured, methodical, and analytical, with strong organizational and planning abilities. · Capable of balancing visionary, conceptual thinking with precise execution and attention to detail. · Collaborative, team-oriented, and free from prestige or political behaviour. · Strong visual storyteller with clear, confident verbal communication skills.

The opportunity We're currently looking for interns to join Polestar Design department to support the development of future Polestar products across exterior, interior and color, material, and finish (CMF) design. We’re looking for individuals with a passion for electric mobility, an interest in technology, and a desire to be part of designing the change we know is needed. This is an opportunity to gain hands-on experience within one of the automotive industry’s most progressive design teams. We are offering three separate internship positions within the Design team: Exterior Design, Interior Design and CMF Design. Please indicate in your application which area you are most interested in. This is a full-time, paid internship for 6 months, located in Gothenburg, Sweden, with the expectation to work primarily onsite while benefiting from a hybrid setup when needed. The responsibilities In this role, you'll be expected to support the creation and development of future Polestar products, working alongside experienced designers in a collaborative studio environment. See below the various tasks and areas you'll be responsible for. Please note that more detailed tasks and focus areas will be tailored depending on whether you join the Exterior, Interior or CMF team: * Create design proposals and visualizations through sketches, 3D modeling, and renderings * Support the development of interior, exterior, and CMF concepts throughout the design process * Research trends, materials, and technologies to inspire innovative design solutions * Assist in building presentations, design boards, and storytelling materials * Collaborate cross-functionally with other design and engineering teams The ideal candidate In order to succeed in this role, and at Polestar in general, there are a few characteristics you'll need to have: tenacity, flexibility, and curiosity. In addition, you'll need the following qualifications: * Final stage of studies within Industrial Design, Transportation Design, or equivalent – for CMF-focused internship, studies in Product, Fashion, or Textile Design are also relevant – ensuring a strong design foundation and understanding of form, function, and user experience * Proficiency in design tools such as Adobe Creative Suite; experience with Alias, Blender, Maya, or similar 3D design software is an advantage * Ability to communicate ideas clearly through sketches, renderings, and digital tools, and comfort in developing concepts from initial exploration to refined design proposals * Understanding of materials, colors, and finishes – important for contributing to CMF development and sustainable design choices * A strong transportation design portfolio showcasing creative thinking and design process – demonstrating your ability to translate ideas into impactful design solutions and your understanding of how thoughtful design creates meaningful user experiences. Actively contributing to project meetings and reporting progress to product management, ensuring accurate planning, follow-up, and monitoring of all activities within the designated area. Collaborating closely with cross-functional engineering teams to ensure compliance with customer needs, regulatory standards, and the overall product vision and requirements. Exploring and integrating innovative materials and tooling methods, for example within plastics and sheet metals, to enhance product quality, sustainability, and long-term reliability. Designing enclosures for electronics, such as PCBAs and/or similar, by plastic injection molding and/or sheet metal. Working closely with industrial design, taking over A-surfaces, and realizing the CMF specifications. Collaborating with main suppliers and development partners. What you’ll bring to the role Solid experience in mechanical design or relevant technical fields, such as product development and mechanical engineering. B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering or M.S. in Mechanical Engineering, Design & Product Development, or equivalent. Experience working with 3D tools for designing mechanical components in a 3D environment; SolidWorks proficiency is advantageous. Experience in consumer products involving electronics and embedded software. Experience in testing, reliability, and qualification of systems, either in-house or on the partner side. Proven track record in transitioning designs into mass production, ensuring rigorous quality control and reliability standards. Experience working in the conceptual phase, physical prototyping, hands-on testing, and sustainability. Experience working closely with industrial designers. Proficiency with tools such as PowerPoint or Adobe and the ability to present ideas to both technical and non-technical audiences.
