Senior Mechanical Engineer - Take end-to-end responsibility for the mechanical design Ascom develops mission critical, near real time solutions used in hospitals, elderly care, correctional facilities and other demanding environments. We’ve been innovating for over 160 years and have 1300+ employees globally; in Sweden we’re ~240 colleagues with deep domain expertise. We’re hiring a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our R&D team in Gothenburg. This is a hands-on expert role where you’ll shape robust handheld products and accessories, and you’ll be visible for your technical impact. You’re likely to enjoy this role if you’ve been involved in complete products (not just single parts) and appreciate taking responsibility for the mechanical solution end-to-end including requirements, tradeoffs, verification, supplier collaboration, and ongoing improvements. What you’ll do * Own mechanical design and product configuration for products and accessories within Ascom from requirement breakdown to verified design and maintained configuration. * Drive advanced MCAD work in PTC Creo (this is decisive), focusing heavily on molded plastic and robust enclosures/packaging. * Design and verify mechanics at multiple levels from detailed parts to complete products in a regulated/standards driven context (UL/ETL/IEC, ISO/FDA). * Work cross functionally every day: especially with electronic design, purchasing and quality and proactively collect what other functions need from you (e.g., purchasing inputs for supplier/tooling decisions). * Participate in supplier evaluations and tooling decisions, often with international suppliers/partners. * Coach junior engineers through reviews and best practices (we expect senior engineers to raise the bar). * Improve ways of working and documentation pragmatically, to support delivery and quality. What we require * 10+ years in mechanical product design with end-to-end responsibility for end products (not only parts). * Strong Creo (Pro‑E) capability - you can lead advanced MCAD work confidently. * Proven experience designing molded plastic for series production. * Experience working in, and designing with, standards and regulated expectations (UL/ETL/IEC; ISO/FDA). * Comfort operating in a cross functional reality where electronics, quality and purchasing run in parallel, and dependencies must be actively managed. Strong advantages (we’ll notice these) * Surface modeling / surface driven modelling experience (working from provided design surfaces rather than creating everything from scratch). * Experience with industrial design handoffs. * Hands on prototype mindset (fit/feel/seal robustness, practical iterations). Working language * English is used daily in cross functional and supplier collaboration. * Swedish is a strong advantage — “fika Swedish” matters for day today flow in Gothenburg. Career path & spotlight This is an Individual Contributor role — you’ll be recognized and relied on for being a strong designer/technical problem solver (not a people manager track). You will take ownership of your tasks and work independently, but you will always be a part of a collaborative team. We offer A meaningful role where your work directly impacts healthcare and safety, a collaborative team culture, and flexibility including remote possibilities depending on project needs. Ready to make a difference? Apply now and include a short note describing one product you owned end to end in mechanics (what you were accountable for, and what tradeoffs you made).
