Want to shape the future of waterborne transport and join a world-class team? Candela is the global leader in electric hydrofoil vessels. Since 2014, we’ve gone from building our first premium electric speedboat in a small Stockholm workshop to delivering game-changing vessels around the globe. The Candela P-12 is our latest innovation—the world’s first electric hydrofoil ferry is not just operating in Stockholm, but now attracting orders from around the world. Our boats “fly” thanks to computer-guided underwater wings under the hull made out of lightweight carbon fiber. The wings lift the vessel above the water, which results in cutting energy use by up to 80%, while offering zero emissions and a far better passenger experience than traditional diesel vessels. And that’s exactly why we do this. Our mission is clear: to speed up the transition to fossil fuel–free lakes and oceans. Now you can be part of the amazing team at Candela! We are looking for a Senior Composite Manufacturing Engineer to join Candela’s Manufacturing Engineering team. In this role, you will take ownership of the serial production implementation of our advanced composite structures, including major hull components, deck structures, internal bulkheads, and exterior body parts. This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role. You won’t just optimize processes on a screen; you will actively bridge the gap between R&D laminate designs and stable, scalable shop-floor execution. You’ll ensure our composite production is robust, repeatable, and seamlessly integrated into our main assembly lines. What you'll do Drive Industrialization: Lead the transition of composite structures from R&D prototypes to high-quality, stable serial production, optimizing for cycle time, cost, and repeatability. Optimize Processes: Develop, evaluate, and enhance composite manufacturing methods (including vacuum resin infusion, compression moulding and wet layup) specifically for large-scale carbon fiber body parts. Tooling & Equipment: Design and develop specialized production tooling, molds, assembly fixtures, and workshop templates to improve lamination and trimming accuracy. CAD & Documentation: Create detailed assembly drawings, ply-book documentation, work instructions, and installation standards in CAD. DFM Collaboration: Work closely with Research & Development to provide critical Design-for-Manufacturing (DFM) feedback, ensuring laminate schedules and joint designs are optimized for production stability. Quality & Validation: Establish process controls for layup, curing, trimming, bonding, and assembly. Lead troubleshooting efforts for production defects (e.g. structural and surface defects or bonding issues). Compliance & Safety: Ensure all composite manufacturing processes, chemical handling, and equipment comply with applicable environmental, health, and occupational safety regulations. Hands-on Prototyping: Participate actively in shop-floor testing, trial layups, first-article inspections, and the validation of new composite materials like fabrics, core materials, resins or adhesive systems. What are we looking for? Education: M.Sc. or B.Sc. in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Science, Aerospace Engineering, Marine Engineering or an equivalent technical field with a focus on composites. Experience: 5–10+ years of experience in composite manufacturing engineering, preferably within marine, automotive, or aerospace industries handling large-scale carbon fiber structures. Technical Depth: Deep understanding of composite manufacturing and repair techniques like: vacuum infusion, compression moulding, wet lamination and bonding. Experience in surface finishing processes like fairing and painting is beneficial (especially marine painting systems) CAD Proficiency: Competency in CAD design and mechanical/composite documentation (Catia v5 / 3DEXPERIENCE preferred). ERP and/or PLM documentation management Mindset: A practical, hands-on engineering approach. You are equally comfortable reviewing a 3D model and working alongside operators on the shop floor. Soft Skills: Strong cross-functional collaboration and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate technical requirements clearly across disciplines. Language: Fluent in English; Swedish is a definite plus. Form of employment: Full-time with initial 6 month probation period Start date: ASAP Location/base: Rotebro Team: Manufacturing Engineering Reporting to: Director Manufacturing Engineering Why people love working at Candela? At Candela, we’re not just building electric vessels - we’re creating a whole new category of clean, efficient waterborne transport. You get the chance to work with cutting-edge technology, solving complex challenges, and seeing the results in action - sometimes literally, when we organize test rides for our newcomers! We’re a diverse and ambitious team of over 50 nationalities, united by a revolutionary spirit and kindness. That means we work hard, but always with humility and while having fun - whether it’s solving a manufacturing challenge, improving processes, or cheering each other on during Candela Months, our year-round calendar of bonding activities and events. We’re office-first but not office-only. We believe collaboration is most powerful when we build together, in person - but we also trust our team to work in ways that fit their life.
