The job in short: Are you a performance enthusiast with a deep understanding of databases, ready to be the ultimate database authority within Backbase? As a Senior Database Engineer (also known as a Senior Performance Engineer or DBA), you'll diagnose and resolve complex database performance issues, ensuring our digital banking platform operates at peak efficiency for our global customers. Meet the job: Database performance engineers are a cornerstone of Backbase technology. You'll provide invaluable guidance to our development teams (tribes and squads) in their approach to databases and data design, ensuring our microservices deliver optimum performance. You'll analyze and interpret large volumes of performance data to characterize application behavior while proactively scanning for potential problems. Once an issue or bottleneck is identified, you'll build simulations to test your findings, and upon confirmation, you'll clearly explain it to Technical Architects and guide them towards a solution. Your duties will include: * Explaining complex findings to a variety of technical audiences. * Testing our Proof-of-Concept (PoC) products to ensure they achieve our ambitious goals. * Ensuring overall software quality, scalability, and performance. * Working closely with our cloud solutions team on their Minimum Viable Product (MVP) and launch. * Acting as a consultant to our internal development teams and educating them on performance. To really tackle this role, we believe you’ll need: * Solid experience with large (100TB+), highly available, and high-transaction databases, with MySQL being a must-have (Oracle or MSSQL is a plus). * Experience working with Cloud databases, either AWS or Azure. * Deep knowledge about database fundamentals and architectures, alongside SQL code performance review and optimization. * Familiarity with standard edition tools for performance measurement, analysis, and optimization. * Experience with developing tools and methodology for isolating performance issues. * The ability to coordinate, plan, and manage complex technical solutions. * Excellent communication skills, able to explain complex subjects to a wide audience with different expertise levels. * Experience with ML/LLM/AI concepts and their impact on database performance and data architecture, especially in a high-transaction environment. * You must be located within commuting distance to our Kraków office, as we work in a hybrid mode, at least twice per week from the office.

Co-ordinate with internal project users to troubleshoot and provide expert level technical support to resolve issues related to Azure, AWS, Windows/ Linux servers. Provide system administration and technical support on Windows Server, Linux, Intune, Defender, Rapid7, MacOS, Jamf with advance skills on Windows Active Directory & Azure networking. Hands on with Windows server security hardening and patch management. Intermediate skills on LAN/WAN, WiFi, Internet troubleshooting. Co-ordinate with other local and global IT team members to address Cloud, servers or application support issues & document and prepare reports as per internal IT processes. Software & subscriptions license assignment, tracking and verification. Hands-on with Troubleshooting, Problem Resolution, Upgradation & Maintenance: Hands-on experience with Azure, AWS, Terraform, AKS Cluster, App Service, SAML, Azure DevOps, Azure Networking & Storage, Microsoft Azure Backup Service or other Data backup software Work experience on Windows Server, Linux, MacOS, SQL DB, MS Defender, MS Intune & Rapid7. HandsOn with GitHub, MS Autopilot, MS Office 356, Azure AD/ Entra tools. Basic network & Internet access troubleshooting from Windows, Linux, MacOS. Pre-requisites: Around 5 to 10 Years of relevant work experience as Cloud IT Support Engineer Good business communication (written/ spoken English) & co-ordination skills to work with IT teams Good customer service skills with clear communication, active listening, patience & adaptability that are essential for building positive customer relationships and resolving issues effectively. Eager to learn new things, contribute as a team player, collaborate and explore ways to resolve technical problems quickly or provide work arounds. Proactive in problem-solving, result oriented and take responsibility & deliver to the assigned IT tasks. Certifications related to Azure, Windows Server, Backup/ Storage & Networking will be preferred.
