Relay’s Mission is to free commerce from friction. Today, high delivery costs act as a hidden tax on e-commerce, quietly shaping
what can be sold online and limiting who can participate. We envision a world where more goods move more freely between more
people, making the online shopping experience seamless and accessible to everyone.
The Opportunity
Relay is building the UK's most intelligent delivery network. Every parcel that moves through our system makes the network
smarter, and we hold ourselves to a high bar on the metrics that prove it: on-time attempts, on-time delivery, did-not-receive
rates, lost-in-transit rates, unit economics, and client profitability. Our clients hold us to that same bar, and our commercial
org is where those conversations happen. Behind every strategic account is a rich set of numbers that need to be read,
interpreted, and turned into a story. This role owns that.
As Commercial Analytics Programme Lead, you own the commercial analytics programme across our strategic accounts. This role is
critical in keeping our commercial metrics moving in the right direction (performance and quality, profitability, growth), and
communicating that improvement to clients in a way that meets their priorities. AMs and their clients bring you the things that
matter most. You take those needs, find the root cause across our network and commercial ops, and drive the right internal teams
to fix them. You're the connective tissue between what clients are asking for and what Relay's squads are building, and you stay
across both sides until what we're saying externally matches what we're delivering internally.
You run multiple commercial analytics programmes in parallel across the full strategic account base: performance and quality,
profitability, and growth. Each has its own cadence, KPIs, and reporting standards, and you own all of them. When an AM brings a
live problem (a DNR spike, a margin slip, a pipeline risk), you triage it across the account base, diagnose where in the value
chain the root cause sits, and commission the right internal teams to fix it. You sequence their work so the fix lands in time for
the client conversation. You manage a Commercial Analyst as a direct report, with the other analytical resources across the
business (growth and expansion, quality, finance) on dotted lines in so you can pull together the full commercial picture.
Relay has best in class operational teams, account managers, and data capabilities. Our squads build and deliver. This role keeps
them pointed at the commercial problems that matter, challenges their output, and holds them to the dates we've committed
externally. You coordinate across quality, finance, growth and expansion, and the operational pillars (first mile, sort, middle
mile / partner services, last mile), and you're creative about how you pull resource together when no single squad owns the
problem. The job has two sides that run together: moving commercial metrics through the internal delivery, and communicating that
progress to clients in a way that meets their priorities. You own both. Relay is investing heavily in quality and observability
systems that will increasingly tell us exactly where we're winning and losing. More visibility means more to act on and more to
report. This role scales with that.

Relay is fundamentally reshaping how goods move in an online era. Backed by Europe’s largest-ever logistics Series A ($35M), led by deep-tech investors Plural (whose portfolio spans fusion energy and space exploration), Relay is scaling faster than 99.98% of venture-backed startups. We're assembling the most talent-dense team the logistics industry has ever seen Relay’s Mission is to free commerce from friction. Today, high delivery costs act as a hidden tax on e-commerce, quietly shaping what can be sold online and limiting who can participate. We envision a world where more goods move more freely between more people, making the online shopping experience seamless and accessible to everyone. THE TEAM • ~110 people, more than half in engineering, product and data • 45+ advanced degrees across computer science, mathematics and operations research • Thousands of data points captured, calculated, analysed and predicted for every single parcel we handle • An intellectually vibrant culture of first‑principles thinking, tight feedback loops and relentless experimentation The Opportunity Relay's network is scaling fast. The decisions that shape that growth, where to expand, how to price, where to invest, are made by a finance team that runs on data: driver-level metrics, profitability models, pricing structures, and operational KPIs. This role exists to own the analytics layer that powers those decisions. As a Senior Data Analyst in the finance squad, you are responsible for how finance sees the business. You own the dashboards and reporting that give visibility into the metrics that matter: cost per parcel, expansion profitability, client and cohort performance, pricing dynamics, and the drivers underneath them. You translate raw operational data into views that finance can use to forecast, model, and act. Relay operates a centralised data team of around 30 data engineers, analysts, and data scientists, with analysts embedded into squads across the business. You will sit in the finance squad, but report into the centralised data team. You will work closely with the Senior Data Scientist in the squad, building the reporting and visibility layer on top of their simulation models. You will also work across squads, pulling the metrics they commit to the semantic layer and shaping them into the views finance needs. Who Will Thrive in This Role? * You take ownership of your domain. You don't wait to be told what finance needs or when something is broken. You're proactive about understanding the questions they're trying to answer and making sure the data is there to answer them. * You're an excellent data analyst who builds clean, reliable reporting that people actually use. You care about data quality, clarity, and making complex metrics understandable. * You're fluent in SQL and experienced with dbt. You can build and maintain well-structured models, not just write queries. * You're comfortable with BI tools and visualisation platforms. You know how to design dashboards that surface the right information without clutter. * You have at least 5 years of experience, ideally with some exposure to finance, FP&A, or commercial analytics. You understand how finance teams think about metrics and drivers. * You communicate clearly with non-technical partners. Finance will rely on your reporting to make decisions. You need to explain what it shows, where the data comes from, and where the limitations are. * You're comfortable working across teams. You'll pull metrics from squads across the business, which means building relationships and understanding how different parts of Relay operate. FAST AND FOCUSED HIRING PROCESS 1. We work 4 days on-site, with 1 day remote. * Hardware of your choice. * Extensive perks (gym subsidies, cycle-to-work, Friday office lunch, covered Uber home and dinner for late nights, and more). Who Thrives at Relay? * Aim with Precision: You define problems clearly and measure your impact meticulously. * Play to Win: You chase bold bets, tackle the hard stuff, and view constraints as fuel, not friction. * 1% Better Every Day: You believe that small, consistent improvements lead to exponential growth. You move quickly, deliver results, and learn from every experience. * All In, All the Time: You show up and step up. You take ownership from start to finish and do what it takes to deliver when it counts. * People-Powered Greatness: You invest in your teammates. You give and receive feedback with care and candour. You build trust through high standards and shared success. * Grow the Whole Pie: You seek out win-win solutions for merchants, couriers, and our customers, because when they thrive, so do we. Sortation is operationally complex: warehouse operatives, intake scanners, supervisors, and robots all working together to process thousands of parcels daily. First Mile is how those parcels arrive - collections from retailers, with all the variability that brings. Together, these domains sit at the start of the network and set the pace for everything downstream. As a Data Analyst in the Sortation & First Mile squad, you will own the analytics for both domains. The work is broad: cost investigations, workforce planning, capacity analysis, performance tracking, and operational reporting. Your analysis won’t sit in a dashboard waiting to be discovered - it will shape how shifts are scheduled, how volumes are managed, and where the operation focuses its improvement efforts. You will sit in the Sortation & First Mile squad, but report into the centralised data team. You’ll work closely with operations, commercial, and finance to turn data into decisions that affect how the network runs every day. What You’ll Do * Investigate cost per parcel: where are we spending too much, where are savings available, and what’s driving the variance * Track operative performance across roles: throughput, accuracy, shift utilisation, and the balance between direct and agency labour * Monitor robot efficiency and capacity: what volumes can they sustain, where are the bottlenecks, how do they compare to manual processing * Build models to predict shift requirements and automate workforce planning, prioritising top-performing operatives * Analyse injection volumes and manifest accuracy: how much are we actually sorting vs. what’s forecast, and where are the gaps * Define KPIs and build dashboards that make sortation and first mile performance transparent to operations and leadership * Work with commercial teams to set volume limits and injection timing that balance growth with operational stability Who Will Thrive in This Role? * You want to understand how an operation actually works, not just analyse it from a distance * You’re excited by cost problems - finding where money is leaking and building the case for how to fix it * You can navigate messy operational data and turn it into metrics people trust * You’re comfortable working with operations teams and embedding your analysis into their daily workflows * You’re fluent in SQL and experienced with BI tools, with strong problem-solving instincts * You have at least 3 years experience, ideally with some exposure to logistics * You care about impact, not just insight - you measure success by whether the operation runs better * You communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders and can explain what the data shows and where the limitations are Fast and Focused Hiring Process 1. THE TEAM • ~110 people, more than half in engineering, product and data • 45+ advanced degrees across computer science, mathematics and operations research • Thousands of data points captured, calculated, analysed and predicted for every single parcel we handle • An intellectually vibrant culture of first‑principles thinking, tight feedback loops and relentless experimentation Overview Relay's Pitstop network is the convenience-store backbone of the operation. Customers drop off and collect parcels at these locations, Middle Mile drivers hand off and pick up, and the whole network depends on independent retailers behaving in ways that make Relay work. They aren't Relay staff. We don't control their attention, their turnover, or what else is happening behind their counter. Every behaviour we need has to be produced through systems, incentives, and the app. The Pitstop squad's job is to build those systems. Today the network runs at around 170k parcels a day, propped up by a small operations team and twelve LiveOps FTE absorbing the day-to-day breakage. The squad's mission is to take the network from 170k to 2M parcels a day without LiveOps scaling linearly with it. That means systematising launch readiness, pitstop performance, pricing structure, and retention so the same number of operators can support a network twelve times the size. As a Data Analyst in the Pitstop squad, you will own the analytics that make all of this measurable. Are launches hitting day-1 quality? Is handover speed improving where new in-app behaviour nudges have rolled out? Which pitstops are heading for churn and why? What's actually driving LiveOps ticket load, and which interventions are removing it? You'll build the monitoring layer the squad relies on, run the cost and performance investigations that shape what gets built next, and become the squad's source of truth on what's working. Relay operates a centralised data team of around 30 data engineers, analysts, and data scientists, with analysts embedded into squads across the business. You will sit in the Pitstop squad, working day-to-day with operations, sales, engineering, design, and research. You will report into the centralised data team and be line managed by the Lead Data Analyst for Middle Mile, Pitstops & Sortation. What You'll Do * Own the Pitstop squad's five outcome metrics: Launch Velocity, Handover Speed, Handover Accuracy, Pitstop Retention, and Indirect Cost per Parcel. Build the monitoring around them, investigate movement, and translate the numbers into next actions for the squad. * Run the analytics behind pitstop performance and pricing: which behaviours move handover speed, how commercial tiers and clawbacks are landing, which pitstops are systematically under- or over-performing, and what the in-app nudges are actually changing on the counter. * Quantify the impact of squad initiatives in cost terms: how much LiveOps load did this self-serve flow remove, how much Middle Mile driver time did this handover prompt unlock, and what is the CPP impact of retention work on mature pitstops. * Build launch readiness analytics: cohort ramp curves, time-to-maturity, where new pitstops break in week one, and how the launch playbook should evolve as volume grows. * Build the retention layer: a health score for pitstops, at-risk alerting, churn diagnosis triaged by cause, and the feedback loop back into acquisition and onboarding. * Investigate LiveOps ticket load by category and reason. Quantify what each ticket type costs, where the volume is concentrated, and which pillars should systematise it next. * Define KPIs and build dashboards that make Pitstop performance transparent to the squad, to operations, and to leadership. * Maintain and extend the squad's dbt models and data pipelines that underpin the monitoring layer. WHO WILL THRIVE IN THIS ROLE? * You want to understand how an operation actually works, not analyse it from a distance. Pitstops are messy, varied, and behaviour-driven. The best work comes from people who can sit with operators, watch handovers happen, and translate what they see into measurable signals. * You're excited by cost and behaviour problems. Where is LiveOps spending time, what's driving handover friction, and where are systems failing in ways the data can show but the squad cannot yet feel. * You can navigate messy operational data and turn it into metrics people trust. * You're comfortable working alongside operations, design, engineering, and commercial stakeholders, and you can embed your analysis into their workflows. * You're fluent in SQL and experienced with BI tools, with strong problem-solving instincts. * You have at least 3 years experience, ideally with exposure to logistics, parcels, retail operations, or another network-scale operational business. * You care about impact, not just insight. Success in this role is measured by whether the Pitstop network can scale without LiveOps scaling with it. * You communicate clearly with non-technical stakeholders and can explain what the data shows, where the limits are, and what to do next.
