As an Economist at Deliveroo you will help scale our business and improve the experience for restaurants, riders, and eaters. Using experimental or observational data, you will get to help answer questions like: * Which markets/cities should we enter next? * How can we incentivise good rider behaviour? * What is the business impact of exclusive deals we have with restaurants? * Can the Delivery food market sustain multiple players? * What are the trade-offs we face when choosing between growth and profitability? How should we decide between them? * What is the optimum selection and variety of restaurants? * What impact do online reviews have? * How will a change in the user interface affect customer choice behaviour? The work you will do will have a direct, measurable impact on the bottom line of the company. REQUIREMENTS: * Masters Degree or PhD in Economics or Econometrics (preferred) * Always curious and willing to learn new skills * A problem solver with a deep analytical mindset * Ability to think creatively and insightfully about business-relevant economic problems * A critical thinker with very strong attention to detail * Proficiency with analytical tools like R/Python and familiarity with SQL * Ideally industry experience since the completion of your academic career * Excellent people skills — you’ll be meeting with stakeholders to translate business needs into economic problems At Deliveroo these are just some of the tough problems we are solving - and there is no challenge that cannot be yours. In this role, you’ll enable high-quality human-led decision-making to maximise impact. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING As a Senior Data Scientist at Deliveroo, your goal is to maximise business impact within one of our product areas. A core part of the role is designing, running and interpreting experiments, and using causal inference to guide product decisions in complex, real-world settings. You will go beyond simply answering “did this feature work?” and instead focus on understanding what the true impact is, why it worked or did not work, and how results generalise across users, markets and time. Here’s what your day-to-day might look like: * Driving Strategy/insights through Experimentation: Leading the design of both simple and complex experiments and proactively translating findings into strategic direction. * Master Causal Inference: Apply advanced techniques to estimate long-term and heterogeneous treatment effects. * Drawing reliable conclusions in settings with selection bias or imperfect randomisation. * Drive Deep Product Insights: Uncover the fundamental drivers of experiment performance, determining why features succeed and how results generalise across different users, markets, and timeframes. * Using insights from past experiments to improve future decision-making. We’re looking for a Senior Machine Learning Engineer to join our London team. In this role, you’ll help shape the decision-making systems that directly impact customer experience, trust, and fairness at Deliveroo. This role is based in our London office with a hybrid setup, typically 3 days in the office. WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING You’ll be joining the Care team. Care is an area with significant opportunity and real customer impact; you’ll take ownership of existing models and help define strong ML foundations in spaces that are still evolving, from LLM-powered automation to customer compensation logic. Here’s what your day-to-day might look like: * Own the full ML lifecycle: Lead the design, development, and productionisation of machine learning models used in customer support and high-stakes decision systems. * Architect for reliability: Build robust monitoring, evaluation, and alerting frameworks to detect model underperformance, drift, or unexpected behaviour in real-time. * Collaborate on product strategy: Partner closely with Product Managers to turn ambiguous customer problems into robust, scalable ML solutions. * Drive technical excellence: Provide technical leadership in areas with unclear ownership, setting the gold standard for ML quality, reliability, and maintainability. * Bridge science and engineering: Work with data scientists and engineers across the global organisation to embed models into high-performance, scalable systems. WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO THRIVE Essential * Significant experience as an ML Engineer or Data Scientist, with a proven ability to write high-quality production code in Python. * Demonstrated ownership of productionising Generative AI workstreams or Agentic AI projects, including a deep understanding of LLMs, transformers, and fine-tuning. * Proven ability to deploy and manage models using modern infrastructure tools such as Docker, Kubernetes, and CircleCI. * Strong foundational knowledge of traditional ML and evaluation techniques, balanced with a bias for simplicity and measurable business impact. * A collaborative mindset with experience mentoring peers and a drive to solve complex, real-world problems at scale. Nice to Have * Experience with evaluation harnesses and frameworks specifically designed for Generative AI. * Familiarity with observability, monitoring, and safety techniques for deployed GenAI systems. * Experience working with strongly typed languages, such as Go.
