THE ROLE: The Senior Technical Project Manager at CoMind will lead the delivery of a complex, multi-disciplinary sub-system spanning optics, electronics, mechanical engineering, FPGAs, and software. The role owns end-to-end planning and execution, coordinating internal engineering teams and external development partners to take the sub-system through the full product development lifecycle, from design maturation through to verification and transfer. This is a senior, hands-on role focused on disciplined technical project delivery in a fast-moving medtech start-up. The successful candidate will translate technical and programme objectives into a clear, well-structured plan, managing scope, schedule, resources, risk, and cross-discipline dependencies, while maintaining the pace and pragmatism a start-up demands. CoMind is entering a critical phase of design maturation, verification, and scale-up. This role is central to ensuring the sub-system is delivered on time, to specification, and to the quality and regulatory standards expected of a medical device, without sacrificing momentum or engineering rigour.   At CoMind, all team members work at least 4 days per week in the office, plus a flexible work-from-home day. This role is based in our London (Kings Cross) office. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Owning end-to-end planning and delivery of the sub-system project across optics, electronics, mechanical, FPGA, and software workstreams, from concept through to design verification and transfer * Building and maintaining the integrated project plan, including scope, schedule, milestones, critical path, and cross-discipline dependencies * Leading a multi-disciplinary team of engineers and external development partners, coordinating activities and resolving technical and resourcing conflicts to keep delivery on track * Establishing and running effective project governance, including regular reporting, steering reviews, and clear, accurate status communication to senior stakeholders * Owning the RAID log (risks, assumptions, issues, and dependencies), proactively identifying and mitigating risks before they affect schedule, cost, or quality * Managing resourcing and capacity across disciplines, forecasting demand and working with functional leads to ensure the right skills are available at the right time * Driving the project through the formal product development lifecycle, ensuring design control, verification and validation, and stage-gate requirements are met * Managing external partners and suppliers, including statements of work, deliverables, and the technical and commercial commitments that underpin the project * Tracking budget, effort, and cost against plan, and providing accurate forecasts to support decision-making * Ensuring project documentation and deliverables meet the quality and traceability standards required for a regulated medical device (e.g. ISO 13485, IEC 62304, ISO 14971) * AI is fundamental to our culture — it's not just a tool, but a core part of how we work, collaborate, and innovate. THE ROLE: The Optical Engineering team at CoMind is responsible for the photonics systems at the heart of CoMind’s technology, designing and developing the laser interferometry platform that enables continuous, non-invasive measurement of human physiology parameters. The team spans optical system design, component selection and test, precision alignment, optical modelling, and integration with mechanical and electronic subsystems. As Engineering Manager for Optical Engineering, you will lead a team of optical engineers through the iterative design, build, and test phases to create designs which fulfil design input requirements and successfully complete design verification and validation campaigns. Working alongside CoMind’s contract manufacturing partners, you will ensure that design deliverables can be successfully transferred into serial production. This is a hands-on leadership role: you will drive technical decisions, own the optical workstream, and personally contribute to complex design challenges, while managing the team to programme milestones and design control processes. You will lead and mentor the team of optical engineers, and establish and maintain the development process and tools required by the team, championing a high standard of quality and performance. RESPONSIBILITIES: * Lead and develop a team of optical engineers, setting clear development goals, providing technical mentorship, and maintaining a high standard of engineering practice * Own the optical engineering function and lead the realisation of photonic and optical components from concept through to validated hardware * Personally contribute to design work, including optical modelling (Zemax, COMSOL, or equivalent), tolerance analysis, simulation, and design for manufacture and assembly * Drive design reviews, risk assessments, and V&V activities across optical subsystems, ensuring performance is robustly characterised before design freeze * Own the optical interfaces with mechanical, electronic, and manufacturing subsystems, working cross-functionally to resolve integration challenges * Establish and maintain optical design standards, toolchain choices, and documentation in line with CoMind’s QMS, ISO 13485, and IEC 60601-1 * Manage relationships with contract manufacturers and key suppliers for optical components and assemblies, supporting DFM and manufacturing readiness reviews * AI is fundamental to our culture — it’s not just a tool, but a core part of how we work, collaborate, and innovate. The role reports in the Director of Hardware Engineering. With close collaboration with Product and Program Management the team works from concept through to production, ensuring that mechanical designs meet the performance and reliability demands of a clinical medical device. As Engineering Manager for Mechanical Engineering, you will lead a team of mechanical engineers through the iterative design, build and test phases to create mechanical designs which fulfil design input requirements and successful complete design verification and validation campaigns. Working alongside CoMind’s contract manufacturing partners, you will ensure that design deliverables can be successfully transferred into serial production.
