Right now we’re looking for an Forward Deployed Engineer to play a key role in our Solutions Consultants Team in London. SOUNDS GREAT, WHAT WILL I BE DOING? 🤔 As our Lead / Principal Forward Deployed Engineer you'll be embedded directly with our most strategic accounts, owning the end-to-end technical deployment of our agentic AI platform. This isn't a support role, and it isn't a solutions consultant with a fancy title — you'll write production code, own technical outcomes, and be the reason our biggest customers succeed and expand. You'll operate with the autonomy of a founding engineer and the commercial instinct of a GTM leader. A few things you'll be responsible for: 👉 Embed with our Tier 1 enterprise accounts and own end-to-end deployments of our agentic AI platform — from discovery through to production, including bespoke integrations, data pipelines, and workflow automations. 👉 Lead AI agents into production in complex environments (legacy systems, security, compliance), turning cutting-edge capability into measurable business outcomes. 👉 Partner with Enterprise AEs in late-stage sales cycles — leading proof-of-concept builds and assessing technical readiness to de-risk and accelerate the close. 👉 Surface patterns from the field and feed them back to product and engineering, acting as the bridge between customer reality and roadmap. 👉 Build out the FDE practice as it scales: repeatable deployment playbooks, success metrics, and mentoring mid-level FDEs. WHAT DO I NEED TO BRING WITH ME? 🧳 You’ll need to be able to demonstrate the core skills this role requires. You don't have to tick all the boxes right away; the important thing is that you’re willing to learn. Here’s what the team will be looking for in you: 👉 Significant experience in software engineering, solutions engineering, or a customer-facing technical role — with meaningful time spent shipping production code in complex enterprise environments. 👉 Demonstrable experience deploying AI or data-heavy products into large organisations — real production deployments, not just POCs. 👉 Strong full-stack or backend engineering fundamentals: Python essential, plus comfort across APIs, SQL, cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure), and data pipelines. 👉 The ability to work through ambiguity and turn it into a concrete technical plan. 👉 Clear communication across technical and business audiences — you can tailor the same idea for an engineering lead and a commercial stakeholder. 👉 Willingness to travel to client sites across the UK and Europe (approximately 30–50% of the time). ABOUT THE ROLE Athena is an agentic AI platform for HR, and the category it sits in is being defined right now. There is no settled playbook for deploying autonomous agents into a real enterprise, with all its messy data, legacy systems and high stakes. You will be one of the people writing it. This is the role that turns Athena from a product into outcomes inside the companies betting on us. You will be the closest thing Athena has to a founder for each customer you take on: scoping the problem, mapping it to the product, building whatever is missing, and owning the rollout until it is delivering real value. You are the technical authority customers trust, the engineer we put in the room when the questions get hard, and the person whose read on what customers actually need shapes what we build next. It is the work we have done by hand to land our first enterprise deployments, with customers ranging from AI-native companies to high-growth enterprises, Your job is to do it better, and at scale. Huge ownership and real stakes from week one. YOUR DAY TO DAY * Own enterprise rollouts of Athena end to end: partner with our implementation managers to refine requirements, define use cases, map them to the product, and drive successful go-lives. * Build to release in minutes. Use AI-assisted development to write production code, integrations and configuration faster than the standard engineering loop allows. * Be the technical point of contact for customers across the relationship. * Drive adoption after launch: unblock teams, navigate issues, and find new areas where Athena can add value. * Help customers and internal stakeholders understand how to get real leverage from Athena, which means understanding the model behaviour, prompt patterns, and agent configurations. * Bring the field back to the roadmap: work with our engineering leads, product designers and CTO to shape what we build around real customer needs. * Be the technical authority in the sales process: frame the opportunity with prospects and own the hard questions. WHAT YOU'LL OWN FROM DAY ONE * Real customers and real rollouts, not a backlog handed down from someone else * The judgement calls on how Athena gets deployed and adopted inside complex organisations * A direct line into the roadmap, because you see what customers actually need before anyone else does WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR This role suits someone who is energised by ambiguity, likes owning outcomes in front of customers rather than behind them, and does their best work when the pace is high. * Multiple years of industry experience in a full stack web app development role (ideally in SaaS), with the ability to ship production code. * Great knowledge of TypeScript and an appreciation for the language. * Experienced in customer-facing: you can run a room that spans HR operations through to senior leadership, and earn technical credibility quickly. * A track record of turning ambiguous business requirements into working solutions. * Experience with enterprise integration work (APIs, SSO, and HRIS systems such as Workday are a strong plus). * Has worked directly with LLMs or agentic systems, prompt engineering, tool-calling, evaluation, or agent orchestration, can speak to where the model behaved unexpectedly and what you did about it. * Has operated in a product or technical domain that didn't have a settled playbook and comfortable being the one writing it. * A bias for ownership and speed, and the judgement to know what to build now versus later * Willingness to travel for onsite client work. FORWARD DEPLOYED ENGINEER London-based with European travel (UK, France, Portugal and beyond) ABOUT THE ROLE Ophelos is at a pivotal moment. We've built a market-leading, AI-first debt resolution platform — and now we're deploying it at scale across Intrum's European business. As our Forward Deployed Engineer, you'll lead that effort. Intrum, our parent company and one of Europe's largest credit management businesses, manages debt on behalf of a wide range of merchant clients — retailers, telcos, financial institutions, and more — across multiple European markets. Your job is to onboard those clients onto the Ophelos platform: understanding their data, their business logic, their customer portfolios, and their contractual and regulatory context, and making sure Ophelos works correctly for each of them. Every client is different. They come with different data formats and quality standards, different definitions of what a debt case looks like, different regulatory obligations depending on their sector and market, and different expectations of how their customers should be treated. Your job is to absorb all of that, map it clearly, and translate it into a solution that works — at scale, across many clients, across multiple countries. This role sits at the intersection of solution architecture, technical consulting, and product partnership. You'll spend as much time in discovery conversations and design workshops as you will in configuration files and integration specs. You'll need to be equally credible with a compliance lead in Paris, a data engineer in Lisbon, and a product manager in London. WHAT YOU'LL DO Onboard merchant clients onto Ophelos Each client Intrum brings to Ophelos has its own data structures, business rules, and portfolio characteristics. You'll lead the technical onboarding — understanding their data, designing the ingestion and mapping layer, and ensuring Ophelos represents their cases accurately and operates correctly on their behalf. Navigate localisation and regulatory complexity Operating across European markets means dealing with materially different regulatory frameworks, debt collection norms, and consumer protection requirements — which vary by country, and sometimes by client sector. You'll develop deep fluency in what those differences mean technically, and design the configuration and solution patterns that allow Ophelos to serve each context correctly. Design solutions, not just integrations You'll translate complex, sometimes ambiguous client requirements into clean solution designs — mapping existing data structures, business logic, and operational processes to Ophelos's platform. This isn't just about getting data from A to B; it's about understanding the business intent behind every field and flow, and making sure nothing gets lost in translation. Own the data ingestion layer A significant part of this role involves designing and owning how each client's data arrives into Ophelos — in the right shape, with the right validation, from the right sources. You'll work across varying data formats, system conventions, and quality standards, and build patterns that make future onboarding progressively more efficient. Close the feedback loop You're Ophelos's eyes and ears in the field. When you encounter a recurring client need, a gap in our product, a bug that only surfaces in a specific market context, or a feature that would unlock onboarding for a whole segment of clients — you bring that back clearly and systematically. You'll log issues, articulate feature requests with context and business case, and act as a structured conduit between the real world and Ophelos's product and engineering teams. Build the onboarding playbook Document what you learn. Build reusable patterns, data mapping frameworks, and localisation guides that make each subsequent client onboarding faster and more predictable than the last. Use LLM tooling as a force multiplier Like all Ophelos engineers, you'll work in an AI-first way — using Claude Code, Codex, and OpenSpec to accelerate integration work, draft specs, and explore solutions faster than traditional approaches allow. THE OPHELOS PLATFORM You'll need to develop deep familiarity with our stack — not necessarily to build core features, but to understand its capabilities, constraints, and integration surface thoroughly: * Languages: TypeScript, Python, Ruby * Backend frameworks: FastAPI, Ruby on Rails * Data: PostgreSQL (via PlanetScale), Databricks * Workflow orchestration: Temporal * Financial ledger: TigerBeetle * Infrastructure: AWS, Kubernetes * Observability: Datadog * LLM tooling: Claude Code, OpenSpec, Codex ABOUT YOU You're a systems thinker with technical depth and strong commercial instincts. You've probably worked in fintech, financial services, or enterprise SaaS — in a role that required you to get inside a client's world, understand it thoroughly, and design solutions that actually fit. You might come from a solutions engineering, implementation consulting, or technical architecture background. What matters is that you're equally comfortable shaping a solution design and getting hands-on with the data or configuration to make it real. You're energised by variety — different clients, different markets, different problems — rather than unsettled by it. Your rights Under the GDPR, you have the right to request access to your personal data, to request that it be rectified or erased, and to request that processing be restricted. You also have the right to data portability and the right to object to processing based on legitimate interests, including interview recording — though for the reasons explained above, we may not be able to progress an application where a candidate objects to standard recording of the interview stage.
