With strong market traction, we're growing our engineering team. About the Role We're looking for a senior engineer to join our small, collaborative engineering team. This is a hands-on role where you'll be designing and building the systems that power our platform, while helping set the technical direction for how we grow. You'll be a go-to person for architectural decisions and a mentor to the engineers around you. We're after someone who's as comfortable pairing with a junior developer as they are making calls on system design. You don't need to have used every part of our stack. What matters most is that you're experienced, pick things up quickly, and enjoy getting stuck into hard problems. What You'll Be Working With Our stack includes TypeScript, React, and React Query on the frontend, with AWS Lambda, Node.js, and PostgreSQL on the backend, running on AWS cloud infrastructure. You'll work across both sides of the stack, so comfort in either direction matters. We care more about how you think and approach problems than whether you've used every tool in this list before. What You'll Be Doing Technical Leadership You'll play a key role in shaping how we build things. That means owning architectural decisions, identifying the right trade-offs between speed and sustainability, and making sure our systems are reliable and performant. You'll contribute to our product roadmap from a technical perspective and help the team navigate complex dependencies and risks. Building This isn't a role where you stop writing code. You'll be hands-on daily, delivering high-quality solutions across the stack, improving our development workflows, and tackling the harder problems that come with a growing platform. Growing the Team You'll mentor engineers across the team, helping them develop their skills and confidence. You'll also be involved in recruitment, from screening candidates and reviewing code challenges to helping shape how we onboard new joiners. Communicating You'll regularly translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. Being able to explain the "why" behind decisions clearly and calmly is a big part of this role. What We're Looking For You'll likely have: * Strong commercial experience designing and building systems across the full stack in production * Deep experience with TypeScript, Node.js, SQL, and relational databases * Solid experience with React or similar frontend frameworks * Experience with cloud infrastructure, ideally AWS and serverless architectures * A track record leading the delivery of complex technical projects and bringing others along with you * A thoughtful approach to system design, making pragmatic choices that balance quality with pace * The ability to communicate well and work effectively across different disciplines It'd be great if you have, but it's not essential: * Experience building or scaling SaaS products * Familiarity with event-driven architectures * A background working with integration-heavy platforms * An interest in security best practices We're more interested in how you approach problems than how long you've been doing it. Role Overview You’ll join a small, high-performing team of engineers and product leaders shaping how we scale our platform and our impact. From your first day, you will have the opportunity to work closely with the founding team based across London & Paris to shape the product vision and all parts of our technical architecture. As we scale our products and deepen our presence across emerging markets, this is a role that builds technology to solve customer problems. To do that, you must have empathy and curiosity to get to the root cause of the issue and the creativity to build a solution that balances impact, effort, and delight. Key Responsibilities Delivery * Contribute to the product process from end-to-end, from ideation to building the UI, backend logic, deployment, feedback and measurement * Communicate internally and externally about new features, be it collecting feedback pre-implementation or explaining them on launch * Define and manage delivery milestones, ensuring alignment between engineering and product priorities Technical * Build intuitive and performant web interfaces for business owners in Africa * Implement IT security and data protection best practices in a regulated environment * Proactively drive architectural decisions e.g., improving scalability, observability, and modularity of the codebase * Champion code quality through robust testing, documentation, and reviews Operational * Observe opportunities for improvements internally to help automate our non-tech processes and add to our tech best practices to improve our output and efficiency. Including handling production incidents with confidence Leadership * Mentor junior engineers and contribute to their professional growth through pairing, reviews, and feedback * Represent engineering in cross-functional discussions (including Finance, Operations, Senior Leadership) to help translate business goals into technical plans * Set and uphold team standards for communication, collaboration, and technical excellence Culture * Communicate internally and externally about new features, be it collecting feedback pre-implementation or explaining them on launch Requirements Our tech stack: Typescript, React, NextJS, NodeJS, Express, PostgreSQL * A product mindset is core to how we build - everyone at Capi is encouraged to think about the customer, the business, and the long-term impact of what we ship. * A strong understanding of web development, frontend and backend best practices.
