The Team: Neo4j’s Aura, our managed cloud offering, brings the power of graph databases to the cloud. We are seeking an experienced Backend Software Engineer to join our Identity and Access Management team to help rebuild our IAM platform. This role is a great fit for someone with strong backend development and Kubernetes expertise and who thrives on building custom operators, controllers, and platform components. We want you to help us build secure, scalable, and compliant IAM solutions for AuraDB. Our product is deployed on all three major cloud platforms(GCP, AWS, Azure). You will work closely with various product teams, infrastructure, and security to enhance management of AuraDB IAM capabilities. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in hands-on execution. The Role: * Build, deploy, and manage cloud-native services in Golang that serve as the backbone of our IAM platform. * Develop custom Kubernetes operators, controllers, and resources. * Drive the architecture of our in-flight IAM platform revamp, contributing fresh perspectives to its design and evolution. * Secure service-to-service communication across distributed infrastructure by applying modern authentication patterns — JWT, mTLS, workload identity (SPIFFE/SPIRE), and client credentials * Produce clear, well-structured documentation for technical and non-technical audiences EXPERIENCE: * 5+ years of backend development or software engineering experience. * Experience in GoLang and Kubernetes.  * Experience with at least one of the major cloud providers (GCP, AWS, Azure). #Li-Hybrid Why Join Neo4j? We are seeking an experienced Software Engineer - Identity and Access Management to architect, implement, and manage enterprise IAM strategies. This role requires strong technical skills and a keen interest in the identity and access management (IAM) domain and is a good fit for someone who enjoys working with different teams to build secure, scalable, and compliant IAM solutions for AuraDB. You will work closely with security architecture, development, infrastructure, and product teams to consolidate IAM capabilities across critical applications and systems. This position is ideal for someone who thrives in both planning and hands-on execution. The Role: IAM Architecture & Implementation * Contribute to shaping the IAM roadmap and design an architecture that brings  together the IAM domains across Aura. * Develop and maintain scalable IAM solutions including identity governance and authentication frameworks. Authentication & Authorization * Implement and manage tooling for configuring authentication protocols (OAuth2, OIDC, SAML, LDAP, MFA) and lifecycle management (SCIM). * Integrate with enterprise SSO providers (Okta, Azure AD, Ping Identity, etc). * Design and implement relevant access control paradigms for differing business use cases (RBAC, ABAC, PBAC, ReBAC, FGA). * Manage application authentication via Auth0. * Develop access control policies based on least privilege principles. * Support various authentication and encryption methods: JWT, service accounts, workload identity including SPIFFE/SPIRE, client credentials, mTLS, request signing. Security & Compliance * Apply zero trust principles and secure identity patterns for internal/external systems. * Assess and manage IAM attack surfaces and ensure compliance with industry standards and regulatory requirements (SOC 2). Collaboration & Leadership * Collaborate with engineering, UX, and business stakeholders using Agile methodologies. * Mentor team members on IAM technologies and best practices. * Produce clear, well-structured documentation for technical and non-technical audiences EXPERIENCE: Required * 7+ years of backend development or software engineering experience. * Familiarity and exposure to software development with IAM systems (Okta, Auth0, Ping Identity, Oracle Access Manager, AWS IAM, Azure AD/Entra ID). * Deep understanding of IAM principles, authentication/authorization protocols, and identity lifecycle management. * Solid grasp of identity security frameworks, protocols, and secure design patterns. * Experience with Python or GoLang. * Experience with at least one of the major cloud providers (GCP, AWS, Azure). The Team The Site Reliability Engineering team’s mission is to improve the reliability of Neo4j’s DBaaS product: Neo4j Aura. Operating at a global scale across all three major cloud providers, Aura runs hundreds of Kubernetes clusters and hosts thousands of Neo4j instances in production at any given time. We’re reshaping what SRE means at Neo4j Aura—and we want you to be part of that journey. Rather than firefighting or chasing alerts, we’re helping teams design for reliability from day one. That means building the tools, practices, and culture that embed SRE principles at the heart of how Aura operates. You’ll be joining a team focused on long-term resilience, engineering excellence, and meaningful collaboration with product teams. The Role * Automate for insight and scale: Build systems that make troubleshooting fast, safe, and scalable across thousands of Neo4j instances. From internal tools that surface clear insights to canaries that support safe rollouts, you’ll focus on automation that elevates reliability engineering. * Treat operations as a software problem: Replace tribal knowledge and ad-hoc scripts with tools and systems that codify best practices—making operations predictable, scalable, and repeatable. * Design for resilience, learn from failure: Own and evolve the tooling and processes behind incident response. From clear alerts to blameless reviews, you’ll help ensure teams respond with confidence and learn with clarity. * Champion reliability as a product feature: Help teams define and act on SLIs and SLOs, turning reliability into a shared, data-driven priority across engineering. * Create signals, not noise: Shape an observability stack that tells us what matters, when it matters—so we can detect issues early and resolve them quickly. WE'RE INTERESTED IN HEARING FROM ENGINEERS WITH DEEP EXPERIENCE IN SOME OF THE FOLLOWING AREAS * Writing backend tools and automation in Go—our primary language—with an emphasis on sound architecture, testing, and maintainability.
