Flow Traders is looking for Senior C++ Software Engineers to join our growing team in Amsterdam. Software Engineers at Flow Traders provide us with our competitive edge, equipping Researchers and Traders with the information and capabilities that they need to make sound business decisions. C++ plays a critical role in our event-driven trading systems, which are designed to reliably handle vast amounts of data at ultra-low latencies. As a C++ Engineer, you will build systems used to analyze and trade tens of thousands of products across hundreds of global trading venues every day. Working closely with Technologists, Quantitative Researchers, and Traders, you’ll guide the development of our in-house trading technology and optimize it to achieve market-leading performance and reliability. WHAT YOU WILL DO: Main technical activities include: For all C++ openings: * Lead the development and global rollout of our Core platform used in multiple business/focus groups (Market data, Quantitative research, Pricing, Strategies) * Be involved in the development process, which will be a fast-paced iterative process where you deploy your deliverables and validate them yourself and/or together with traders or quants * Develop tools/frameworks to deliver capabilities for tuning/develop data-driven systematic pricing and trading strategies * Work together with focus group engineers, Quants and Technical traders to refine requirements, collect feedback, and iterate on design and implementation of platform requirements Exchange Connectivity: * Write software that communicates with exchanges through their APIs, receiving market data and sending orders over the network in different protocols, such as FIX, Websocket or HTTP requests * Ensure quality of software based on a set of testing suites, which you are expected to use, maintain and extend * Optimize exchange communication through kernel bypass, optimizing TLS or the connection handling to an exchange * Research exchange behavior in detail to align our behavior to that of an exchange * Implement these solutions using the provided exchange SDKs in different languages such as C++, Rust, Python, Typescript Trading Strategies: * Implement trading algorithms based on requirements provided by traders and quants * Acquire and develop the necessary trading knowledge to successfully translate the requirements into actual software implementation * Continuously improve the stability, reliability, and performance of the trading engine * Enhance monitoring and observability in collaboration with the Trading Operations team * Investigate and resolve production issues such as crashes, unexpected business logic behavior, and performance bottlenecks * Prepare for releases and deployments of new trading engine versions WHAT YOU NEED TO SUCCEED * BSc, MSc, or PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics or equivalent * 5+ years post-graduation professional C++ software development experience (proprietary trading industry preferred) * Ability to write clean, reliable, and highly scalable code * Good knowledge of algorithms and data structures * Experience in parallel, asynchronous, and multithreaded programming * Interest in achieving maximum performance from available hardware and software * Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical business colleagues WHAT WE OFFER At Flow Traders, we create the conditions for hard‑working, high‑performing people to do their best work. You will join the Core Trading Platform team, which is responsible for the design and operation of QRT’s global electronic trading infrastructure. This team builds and maintains the ultra-low latency systems that underpin real-time trading, managing performance-critical workflows across global markets. You will work closely with developers, traders, and operations to optimise system behaviour, reduce latency, and ensure platform reliability at scale. Your future role within QRT * Design and implement low-latency trading systems on Linux, focused on throughput, reliability, and determinism * Engineer scalable, high-performance distributed systems that support global real-time trading workflows * Analyse system behaviour using low-level tools such as packet captures, core dumps, and runtime profilers * Apply deep expertise in TCP, UDP, and multicast to understanding trade-offs in short-haul vs long-haul networks * Continuously profile, benchmark, and optimise code to reduce latency and increase throughput * Engage across the full software lifecycle: from architecture to debugging in live trading environments Your present skillset * 5+ years of professional C++/C development experience on Linux, including modern C++ and multithreading * Strong expertise in TCP, UDP, multicast, and performance trade-offs in low-latency networks * Experience building and operating high-throughput distributed systems in production * Familiarity with scalable I/O models (e.g., epoll, io_uring), lock-free structures, and concurrent programming * Deep attention to detail with a rigorous approach to performance troubleshooting and optimisation * Proficiency in system-level tools (e.g., gdb, perf, tcpdump, valgrind, wireshark) * Comfortable working autonomously and taking ownership from problem to solution * Scripting experience (e.g., Python, Bash) and exposure to CI/CD or observability tooling is a plus * Prior exposure to electronic trading or exchange-facing systems is advantageous QRT is an equal opportunity employer. The Network Engineering function is responsible for the design, reliability, and optimisation of QRT’s wide-area network. The team supports large-scale routing infrastructure and collaborates closely with stakeholders across operations, systems engineering, and automation to ensure robust connectivity for global research and trading activities. Your Future Role within QRT You will: * Design, build, and operate scalable, resilient infrastructure configuration and platform services * Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines to enable efficient and reliable software delivery * Implement and evolve observability systems using OpenTelemetry (OTel), including distributed tracing, metrics, and logging * Troubleshoot complex system issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement long-term fixes * Automate infrastructure provisioning and configuration using scripting and infrastructure-as-code approaches * Work closely with engineers to improve system design, deployment processes, and runtime performance * Operate and optimise containerised environments and orchestration platforms (e.g. Kubernetes) * Take ownership of services and features from implementation through production support and continuous improvement * Collaborate with stakeholders to understand requirements and deliver effective technical solutions Your Present Skillset * Strong Linux systems expertise, including debugging and performance tuning * Solid networking knowledge (TCP/IP, DNS, firewalls, VRFs, VLANs, BGP) * Proficiency in Bash and Python for automation and tooling * Experience with Python web frameworks (e.g. Flask, Django REST Framework) * Experience building RESTful APIs * Hands-on experience with containerisation (Docker) and container orchestration (Kubernetes) * Experience with monitoring and logging stacks (Prometheus, Grafana, Loki) * Understanding of asynchronous and multi-threaded systems * Experience working with CI/CD systems in production environments * Familiarity with distributed systems and common reliability patterns * Ability to define and measure KPIs, SLAs, and SLOs * Strong communication skills and ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders * Desirable: * Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code tools (i.e. Terraform) * Experience with cloud platforms (i.e. AWS) * Knowledge of OpenTelemetry (OTel), including instrumentation, tracing, metrics, and observability pipelines QRT is an equal opportunity employer.
