ITD – CNC Machinist Job Overview: CNC Machinists are skilled in setup, programming, and operation of CNC machine tools and the development of fixture placement and tooling processes. They possess the skills of a setup technician operation and programmer. They may specialize in the use of any type or multiple types of CNC machine tools. They will study printing, selection of material, establish plans for machining operations, understand machine programming languages, and have skill using computer aided manufacturing software.  This position requires an individual to read and understand blueprints, sketches, and samples to accurately machine parts to customer specifications. Some light duty lifting required and using a hoist to install vises, jigs, fixtures, and heavy work pieces onto the mill or lathe for machining. Use precision measuring equipment with both hands to accurately machine parts. Operating the controls of the mill or lathe with both hands to remove material from parts in conjunction with the specs and accuracy required for specific job. Check lubricating fluid and fill as necessary. Clean mill and lathe work area as needed and at the end of each shift. Prior Lathe or Milling experience preferred. Must be able to use micrometers, calipers, and t-gauges...bench and disc sanders...horizontal and vertical bandsaws. LATHE OPERATION:  Holding parts, tooling/sharpening, setup, cutting speeds and feeds, 4-jaw chuck, precision machining (.0001), cutting threads. MILLING OPERATION:  Use of mill, attachments, cutters and holders, cutter RPM and feed rates, mill flat surfaces, squaring parts, milling grooves, drilling, and tapping, boring, dividing or indexing head, setting up angles. Position must also be able to identify types of metal and other material, understand CAD drawings and be able to sketch a part.  Basic math, geometry and trigonometry skills are also critical. Description: The primary purpose of this job is to program, improve and support CNC 5-axis or mill/turn machining activities in a team environment to support the growth of our facility. Additionally, this position provides input to assist design for manufacturing during new product launches and process improvement activities.    2. Responsibilities  •    Develops, documents, and validates CNC programs for CNC equipment.  •    This posting is specifically to support 5-axis machines or mill/turn machining centers. 3 and 4 axis machining experience and wire-EDM are also preferred but not required. •    Works with a team of CNC programmers to support Mill-Turns (Mazak and Nakamura), 3-5 Axis Mills, Chucker Lathes, Swiss Lathes, Wire EDMs, Auto Laser Welding, Laser Etch, and automation support.  Continually seek process improvements include increasing capability, tooling cost reductions, and cycle time reductions.  •    Troubleshoots and corrects problems in a timely manner.  •    Supports continuous improvement activities to increase quality, delivery, cost, safety and morale. Involved with complex technical projects to meet project requirements within designated timeframe.  •    Develops specifications and research sources for equipment/components to meet customer requirements.  •    Works with setup Associates to prove out programs and optimize machining techniques.  •    Identifies, develops, and implements new technology or improvements to existing technology.
