As a Lead/Staff Electrical Engineer at Freeform, you will play an integral role in the design and development of custom
electronics and compute systems that bring our AI-native metal 3D printing factory systems to life. You will solve challenging
problems in fields such as high-performance compute, high speed communications, embedded hardware, motion control, autonomous
robotic systems, and much more. You will use a first principles approach to solving problems and tackling new areas within
electrical engineering that you may not have directly worked on before. The ideal candidate is capable of running projects from
cradle to grave, acting as a technical lead, and has the ability to work effectively with other engineering disciplines.

As a Senior Mechanical Engineer at Freeform, you will be responsible for leading mechanical design efforts across the company, as well as for driving the pace of innovation and maximizing hardware development speed. To be successful in this role, you must have extensive technical breadth in mechanical engineering concepts as well as specific expertise in architecting, designing, and developing complex mechanical systems, advanced robotics systems, or state-of-the-art industrial automation systems. Responsibilities: * Act as a responsible engineer in bringing hardware from concept to production * Research, develop, design, and test complex mechanical components, subassemblies, equipment, and systems * Perform tolerance analysis of designs at the system and subsystem level * Plan and perform tests to analyze the feasibility, design, operation and performance of equipment, components, and systems * Work hands-on to build, integrate, and validate designs and newly developed systems and/or subsystems * Strategize continuous improvement plans to enhance system performance, reliability, and manufacturability Basic Qualifications: * Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related technical field * 5+ years of experience in mechanical systems design and development * CAD experience, including GD&T and detailed drawing documentation * Strong mechanical engineering fundamentals with extensive hands-on hardware development experience * Systems-level thinker also able to perform detailed work; has previously delivered complex mechanical systems Nice to Have: * 10+ years of experience designing mechanical systems for semiconductor, machining, automation, materials processing, or other related industrial manufacturing or capital equipment applications (e.g. additive manufacturing, semiconductor, robotics, CNC, or biomedical manufacturing equipment design engineering experience) * Advanced degree in mechanical engineering * Knowledge of motion control and kinematics * Experience with design of fluid or thermal systems * Working knowledge of electromechanical systems * Passion for improving the state of metal 3D printing * Excellent verbal and written communication skills Location: * Based in Hawthorne, our vertically integrated facility brings technology development, R&D, and production together under one roof. In this role, you will design and build the core platform that runs Freeform’s factories and connects every part of the business- from quoting to production to delivery. The system must handle large amounts of data, support many different factory processes, and provide end-to-end traceability from powder-in to finished parts-out. You’ll lead architecture and implementation, make foundational technical decisions, and work closely with engineers across disciplines to solve real, complex problems with your code. 3D printing experience is not required to be successful here - rather we look for smart, motivated, collaborative engineers who love solving hard problems and creating amazing technology! DESIGN ENGINEER (ADVANCED ENERGY HARDWARE) Freeform builds AI-native manufacturing systems that unify software, hardware, and physics to produce industrial-scale parts at the speed of human ideation. Freeform is hiring a Design Engineer focused on advanced energy hardware to sit at the intersection of advanced part design and additive manufacturing. This is a deeply technical engineering role responsible for rethinking how energy hardware is conceived, designed, and produced. Not just adapting existing parts for a new process but fundamentally reimagining what's possible when legacy design constraints no longer apply. You will work hands-on with some of the most complex hardware in the industry, identifying where Freeform's platform unlocks performance regimes, architectures, and geometries that were previously impractical or impossible. The ideal candidate is a strong mechanical or energy systems engineer with a deep intuition for part design and a genuine passion for pushing the boundaries of what hardware can do. They understand various advanced energy systems at a component and systems level, can independently reason about manufacturability, materials, and performance tradeoffs, and are excited by the creative challenge of designing parts from first principles. The core draw of this role is the engineering itself - though this person will also engage directly with some of the most sophisticated frontier companies in the energy industry.
