As a Senior Embedded Software Engineer at Freeform, you will be responsible for architecting and implementing critical embedded
software systems that enable our advanced metal 3D printing factories to operate fully autonomously at high speeds with precision.
This entails developing elegant software solutions for hardware control, high speed data acquisition, and custom high performance
compute systems. Your software will effectively act as the nervous system of our fully automated metal printing factories. As a
crucial member of the engineering team you will be responsible for driving the pace of innovation, maximizing development speed,

As a Senior Software Engineer at Freeform, you will be responsible for architecting and implementing critical software systems for our autonomous 3D printing factories. You'll have an opportunity to touch many different aspects of our software ecosystem from hardware control, to high-rate telemetry and big data storage systems, to high-performance compute and machine learning pipelines. We don’t develop software in a vacuum, we develop it alongside a multi-disciplinary team with specific, real-world purposes, so collaboration and systems-level thinking are essential to success. Responsibilities: * Architect and develop software for an advanced, production-scale metal 3D printing system * Work with mechanical engineers, electrical engineers, and physicists to integrate control algorithms into production software * Improve and scale out petabyte-scale, high-rate telemetry, storage, and retrieval systems * Use computer science and engineering fundamentals to solve notoriously challenging algorithmic and optimization problems * Develop high-performance compute solutions using GPU parallel processing * Move fast, innovate, don’t over-engineer things, be a good teammate, be flexible and open to new ideas, and push the bounds of what’s possible Basic Qualifications: * 5+ years of professional experience in software development * Proficiency in a systems level programming language such as C/C++ or Rust * Experience with high-performance systems software such as hardware control systems, embedded software, high-volume telemetry systems, graphics rendering, or similar Nice to Have: * Bachelor’s or advanced degree in computer science or computer engineering * 8+ years of professional software development experience * Experience building out backend infrastructure, high-performance storage solutions, streaming processing systems, scientific analysis pipelines and workflows * Experience writing software for industrial automation systems, robotics, or related hardware * Experience with operations systems, computer architecture, or similar computer systems internals * Experience with computer graphics or similar geometry-intensive problems * Experience operating as a technical lead, driving architectural decisions and mentoring junior engineers Location: * Based in Hawthorne, our vertically integrated facility brings technology development, R&D, and production together under one roof. As a Principal Electrical Engineer at Freeform, you will play an integral role in the design and development of custom electronics and compute systems that bring our AI-native metal 3D printing factory systems to life. You will solve challenging problems in fields such as high-performance compute, high speed communications, embedded hardware, motion control, autonomous robotic systems, and much more. You will use a first principles approach to solving problems and tackling new areas within electrical engineering that you may not have directly worked on before.
