We’re looking for a Senior Frontend Engineer to join our 250+ person Product & Engineering organization at Smartly. As a frontend engineer, you’ll tackle complex challenges across performance, scalability, and user experience. You’ll build responsive, reliable interfaces that make sophisticated capabilities feel simple and delightful. Work is done closely with designers, product managers, and backend engineers to craft features that our customers will genuinely love and depend on. We’re focused on React and TypeScript as our core frontend stack, and continuously evolve how we use them to build performant, maintainable, and scalable products. AS A SENIOR SOFTWARE ENGINEER, YOU WILL: * Take an end-to-end responsibility for complex projects from design to deployment. * Find the smallest possible increments to deliver value to our customers as quickly as possible. * Partner closely with Product and UX to dissect complex requirements into well-designed and well-executed software. * Lead technical design decisions and tradeoffs, balancing long-term architecture with immediate product needs. * Be a core contributor to our Engineering Group, ensuring our frontend and core packages remain performant and scalable. * Act as a mentor and technical guide, elevating the team through constructive code reviews and sharing your expertise. * Drive projects forward independently and proactively dispatching roadblocks. Shape architecture and technical direction — apply Domain-Driven Design, Test-Driven Development, microservice and event-driven patterns to solve complex problems and raise the bar across the team. Lead cloud-native development — design and operate services on AWS, using containers, orchestration platforms, and serverless patterns to build resilient, future-proof solutions. Design data and system behaviour at scale — model data across NoSQL and relational systems, ensuring performance, reliability, and secure operation in distributed environments. Strengthen delivery and operational excellence — improve CI/CD pipelines, support production systems, and continuously refine engineering practices for long-term sustainability. What will help you succeed Solid senior experience (5+ years) building backend systems in cloud-native, distributed environments. Strong ownership mindset — you’re comfortable taking a feature from idea to production and standing behind your decisions. Architectural judgement — you know when and how to apply DDD, TDD, microservices, and event-driven design pragmatically. Hands-on cloud and DevOps experience — particularly with AWS, containerisation, CI/CD, and modern deployment models. Experience leveraging AI-assisted development tools and methods to enhance productivity, code quality, and system design. Clear, thoughtful communication and a willingness to mentor others.
