You report to the Director, Field Engineering. THE IMPACT YOU WILL HAVE * Build, lead, and scale the pre-sales (Solutions Architect) team for your assigned customers in Germany, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and career development, and owning coverage across your account portfolio. * Own pre-sales ROI and effectiveness, including coverage models, prioritisation, and impact on win-rate, sales cycles, and customer adoption. * Act as a player-coach by balancing hands-on involvement in key customer engagements with building repeatable motions, artefacts, and coaching mechanisms that scale impact across the team. * Establish and reinforce a solution- and value-based selling culture, focused on business outcomes, not just technical excellence. * Partner closely with Sales leadership to support forecast accuracy, pipeline quality, and consumption growth in a usage-driven business model. * Engage with senior and executive stakeholders at customers to build trusted relationships and long-term partnerships. * Drive a scalable adoption model by anchoring partner and PS attach and establishing a crisp pre-/post-sales handshake tied to consumption outcomes (onboarding readiness, adoption milestones, expansion path). * Represent Field Engineering as part of the regional team, contributing to Databricks' brand, market positioning, and growth in Germany. WHAT WE LOOK FOR * Proven experience building and managing pre-sales or technical field teams in a high-growth environment. * Strong background in data engineering, analytics platforms, databases, or data science, gained through engineering, consulting, or technical leadership roles. * Demonstrated success in consumption-based or SaaS business models, including forecasting, expansion, and customer adoption. * Ability to operate as a player-coach, balancing hands-on deal involvement with scalable team leadership. * Track record of partnering effectively with Sales and cross-functional leaders to drive measurable business outcomes. * Experience establishing repeatable processes that improve efficiency without limiting innovation or ownership. * Passion for the data and AI market and the ability to articulate a clear, executive-level POV on the value of Databricks. * Executive presence with the ability to influence and communicate confidently with senior stakeholders. * Fluent German (highly preferred) and fluent English (required). What You Will Do * Lead complex, multi-system AI deployments end-to-end scope, architect, build, validate, and manage the customer relationship throughout. * Own the AI workshop program for your pod, customize modules per customer, lead technical sessions, translate outputs into production requirements, evolve content from field learning. * Architect multi-agent solutions selecting the right coordination pattern for each customer’s workflow characteristics and compliance requirements. * Design client-specific and industry-specific MCP resource packs that serve personalized intelligence from the server so every connected AI surface gets smarter for that customer automatically. * Own Deployment Kit quality for your pod. If a kit is not documented well enough for a solutions consultant with no engineering background to follow, it isn’t done. * Lead Solutions Enablement Sprints: transfer AI deployment patterns to solutions consultants and partners with training materials and certification criteria. * Drive the intelligence loop: author strategic memos, present field findings weekly, contribute Agent Bricks and Skills, file RFCs for platform improvements. * Mentor junior FDEs on customer engagements, code reviews, and Deployment Kit quality.   Required * 6–10+ years production software engineering, including 3+ years deploying AI/ML to production. Deep Python; strong TypeScript/JavaScript. * Proven track record leading complex enterprise technical engagements. You’ve managed customer relationships, navigated security reviews, and delivered production systems organisations depend on. * Deep production LLM experience: multi-agent orchestration, MCP/tool-use, RAG optimisation, evaluation frameworks, agent deployment at scale. * System architecture expertise spanning enterprise systems, cloud infrastructure, and AI services explainable to a CIO and a junior engineer. * Demonstrated ability to create reusable technical assets that others use in production. You think in platforms, not projects. * Strong written and verbal communication. Architecture documents, runbooks, strategic memos, training materials. Your Deployment Kits are your portfolio. * You leave teams better than you found them. You make sure the people you work with understand what was built, why it works, and how to own it without you. * Ability to travel.  This role requires domestic and international travel approximately 25–50% of the time. * Elligible to work in the UK on an ongoing basis * BS or MS in Computer Science, a related field, or equivalent industry experience   Nice to Have:  * Experience founding or scaling an FDE/solutions engineering function.  * Technical founder background. We deliver professional services (PS) engagements to help our customers build and productionize first of its kind AI applications with a focus on GenAI. We work cross-functionally to shape long-term strategic priorities and initiatives alongside AI/ML Product, Research, and Engineering. We are looking for a world-class leader to lead and grow our EMEA AI FDE team. In this role, you will lead customers on their AI/ML transformation with Databricks, push the boundaries of our product, recruit and develop top data scientists/machine learning engineers, and manage a portfolio of key EMEA accounts.
