About the position​ Position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow ​is available at the Department of Physics/Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology.  Starting date no later than October 1, 2026. The appointment is a full-time position and is for a period of four years, 25 % of which is dedicated to teaching activities. No one can be appointed for more than one Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Oslo. Postdoctoral fellows who are appointed for a period of four years are expected to acquire basic pedagogical competency during their fellowship period within the duty component of 25 %. Project description and work tasks​ The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will broadly address exsolution of metal nanoparticles from oxide materials, which show great promise as electrocatalyst for energy conversion technologies. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will design and characterize materials to elucidate the fundamentals of the exsolution process, including the role of point defects and their interactions, extended defects, strain and more. The primary technique will be scanning transmission electron microscopy (STEM) and electron energy-loss spectroscopy (EELS), using a newly installed state-of-the-art JEOL Mono ARM instrument. The research activities will also include the use of complimentary macroscopic techniques such as X-ray diffraction (XRD) and X-ray absorption spectroscopy (XAS at synchrotron beam-line facilities. The Postdoctoral Research Fellow will be part of a team of experienced researchers working on related themes within the sections Semiconductor Physics and Quantum Technologies, and Electrochemistry, at the Centre for Materials Science and Nanotechnology (SMN). The main purpose of a postdoctoral fellowship is to provide the candidates with enhanced skills to pursue a scientific top position within or beyond academia. We are seeking a candidate with extensive experience in utilizing (S)TEM and EELS for studies of the structure and properties of inorganic materials. The successful candidate should have a background in physics, and hold a PhD in solid state physics, materials science, or similar with a preferred expertise in metal oxides. Previous experience with writing custom code for data analysis, data acquisition, or simulation of experiments is a requirement. A good track record in cross-disciplinary research and collaboration will be positively evaluated, in particular if the candidate has shown an ability to combine experiments with theory/modeling. Good communication skills are a prerequisite. Required qualifications:​ • A degree equivalent to a Norwegian doctoral degree in (Solid State) Physics or Materials Science or equivalent. If the degree is not yet formally received, the doctoral dissertation must be submitted for evaluation by the application date. About the position​ We invite applications for position as Postdoctoral Research Fellow in statistics and data science available at Department of Mathematics. The position is associated with the newly established Norwegian Maritime AI Centre (MAI), a national initiative for research, innovation, and education in artificial intelligence for the maritime sector. Here you will work together with students, PhD candidates and researchers, as well as world leading industry partners. The candidate will be affiliated with the Statistics and Data Science Section. The section is active in many areas of applied and theoretical statistics and data science, and is heavily involved in research at the crossing of statistics and machine learning. The focus of this postdoctoral fellowship is to conduct cutting-edge research on AI-based forecasting and analytics for shipbroking and maritime decision support. The aim is to develop and analyze advanced models that integrate heterogeneous maritime data sources - such as AIS, metocean, emissions, port, cargo, and business data - to improve predictions of costs, freight rates, delays, emissions, and port logistics. While strongly rooted in real-world industrial use cases, the position has a clear academic orientation to develop advanced models for data rich environments.  The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the methodological foundations of maritime AI, publish in leading international journals and conferences, and collaborate closely with MAI’s academic and industrial partners to advance safe, transparent, and trustworthy AI in the maritime sector.  The main purpose of a postdoctoral fellowship is to provide the candidates with enhanced skills to pursue a scientific top position within or beyond academia. About the position​ A three-year postdoctoral research fellowship is available in the research group of Prof. Andreas Carlson at the Department of Mathematics, University of Oslo. Starting date no later than December 1, 2026. No one can be appointed for more than one Postdoctoral Research Fellowship at the University of Oslo. The position is part of two projects funded by the Research Council of Norway, focusing on the development of soft hairy surfaces for flow control and vibration-based soft robots. The overarching goal is to develop a new understanding of fluid flows coupled to complex and actively driven surfaces. Specifically, the projects aim to uncover the fundamental physical principles that govern the coupling between active surfaces and their surrounding fluid environment, and to use this knowledge to inspire new technological applications. The physical designs will be partly bio-inspired and will emphasize sustainability. This position is well suited to candidates who are highly motivated by fundamental science and excited about questions related to actively controlled or driven surfaces in the context of soft robotics, sensing, and flow control.
