We announce 80%, one-year extendable researcher position in the CRISPR gene therapy group led by Emma Haapaniemi to be based at NCMBM, University of Oslo & Oslo University Hospital. We welcome applications both from recent PhD graduates and more experienced scientists.
The successful candidate will join a highly integrated and motivated team with diverse skills and expertise across molecular biology and immunology. The work tasks will concentrate on optimizing and scaling up protocols for efficient mutation correction in human T cells and hematopoietic stem cells utilizing CRISPR-Cas9 gene editing technologies. Examples of work tasks include optimization of patient-derived T cell and stem cell ex vivo editing & culturing conditions; establishing functional assays; design and optimizing high-throughput biology experiments in robotics platforms; setting up custom Next Generation Sequencing libraries and technologies; scale up protocols to pre-GMP and GMP scale
The aim of the Haapaniemi group (www.haapaniemilab.org) is to build a gene editing platform that can be used to correct patient-specific mutations in ex vivo cell therapies for genetic immune and other rare childhood diseases. We use high-throughput biology techniques to optimize, develop and understand the CRISPR-Cas9 system that forms the base of the platform, and develop and implement methods to evaluate its safety in a clinical setting. We will use gene editing technologies for the benefit of the patients in Nordic hospitals.
Norwegian Centre for Molecular Biosciences and Medicine (NCMBM) was established in 2008 and is the Norwegian node in the Nordic EMBL Partnership for Molecular Medicine. NCMM is a joint venture between the University of Oslo, Health Region South-East and the Research Council of Norway, and has altogether 11 research groups. The overall objective of NCMM is to conduct cutting edge research in molecular medicine and biotechnology as well as facilitate translation of discoveries in basic medical research into clinical practice.

A 2-year position as a researcher is available at the Centre for Advanced Cell Therapy (ACT), Oslo University Hospital, under the supervision of the ACT Director Anna Pasetto. The position will be located at the pre-GMP facility at the Norwegian Radium Hospital, Oslo. The ACT Centre is a core facility and translational research environment dedicated to accelerating the development and clinical implementation of advanced cell therapies. We are looking for a highly motivated candidate with a strong interest in translational cell therapy, process development, and quality control methods for advanced therapy medicinal products. About the project The successful candidate will work on the optimization and development of manufacturing and quality control processes for cell therapy products. The project will involve the development, testing, and implementation of new protocols for cell therapy manufacturing, analytical characterization, and potency/functionality assessment. A key focus will be the introduction and evaluation of automated solutions for manufacturing and QC workflows, in close collaboration with national and international academic and industry partners. The work will be performed in the pre-GMP facility at the Norwegian Radium Hospital and will support the translation of innovative cell therapy approaches towards clinical application. Main tasks • Develop and optimize manufacturing protocols for cell therapy products, including T cells, NK cells, iPSC-derived products, or related cell platforms. • Establish and validate analytical methods for cell therapy process development. • Perform advanced cell culture, expansion, activation, differentiation and genetic modification workflows, depending on the project needs. • Design and perform functionality assays relevant to cell therapy products. • Use multiparameter flow cytometry for phenotypic and functional characterization. • Apply molecular biology methods; experience with ddPCR is considered an advantage. • Contribute to the evaluation and implementation of automated systems for manufacturing and QC. • Collaborate with industry partners and multidisciplinary teams within ACT and Oslo University Hospital. • Contribute to documentation, reporting, publication of results, and preparation of protocols relevant for translational and clinical development. Qualifications The applicant must hold a PhD in immunology, cell biology, biotechnology, molecular biology, biomedical sciences, or a related discipline. The ideal candidate has: • Hands-on experience with translational cell therapy research and/or process development. • Practical experience with cell therapy platforms such as T cells, NK cells, iPSC-derived cells, or similar advanced cellular products. • Strong expertise in mammalian cell culture and cell-based functional assays. • Documented experience with flow cytometry, including assay design, acquisition, and data analysis. • Experience with basic molecular biology techniques. • Experience with ddPCR, cell therapy manufacturing workflows, automated platforms, or GMP/pre-GMP environments will be considered an advantage. • Good understanding of the requirements for translation of cell therapy products towards clinical use. • Excellent communication and teamwork skills. • Ability to work independently, systematically, and in a multidisciplinary environment. • Good written and oral English skills. Om stillingen Ved Fakultet for helsevitenskap, Institutt for naturvitenskapelige helsefag, er det en ledig stilling som ph.d.-stipendiat for å undersøke anvendelse av glykomikk til å diagnostisere sepsis. Stillingen har en varighet på tre år, med ønsket oppstart senest 01.04.27. Prosjektet er et tverrfaglig forskningssamarbeid mellom glykomikkgruppen ledet av professor Niclas Karlsson og SEPSOMICS-gruppen ved Oslo Universitetssykehus, Ullevål. Målet er å identifisere undergrupper av sepsispasienter basert på deres glykoproteiner, for å forbedre diagnostikk og muliggjøre persontilpasset behandling. Prosjektet vil benytte topp moderne MS- og ikke-MS-baserte glykomikkmetoder sammenstilt med klinisk pasientinformasjon. Forskningsområde Dette ph.d.-prosjektet vil utforske sepsisens glykobiologi, med mål om å identifisere glykanbaserte biomarkører for pasientstratifisering og bedre behandling. Sepsis er en alvorlig tilstand forårsaket av en dysregulert immunrespons på infeksjon, med en dødelighet på mellom 15 % og 30 %. Det er et akutt behov for å forstå de molekylære mekanismene bak denne dysreguleringen for å muliggjøre persontilpasset behandling. Vi vil studere endret plasmaglykosylering hos sepsispasienter, samt glykosyleringsmønstre i ekstracellulære vesikler (EV) som frigjøres under sepsis og kan gi ny innsikt i immundysreguleringen som kjennetegner pasientene. Målet er å identifisere en glykofenotype hos pasienter med sepsis som muliggjøre målrettet behandling og reduserer unødvendig bruk av bredspektrede antibiotika. Prosjektet støttes av et verdensledende team innen glykomikk og EV-biokjemi, og vil utnytte en høykvalitets biobank med norske sepsispasienter og relevante kontrollgrupper. The position is linked to AIMARIA – Accelerating Innovation in Marine AI-Powered Bioprospecting, a Horizon Europe Innovation Action coordinated by NTNU. AIMARIA combines omics, bioinformatics, artificial intelligence, synthetic biology, bioprocess development and sustainability assessment to accelerate the discovery and sustainable production of marine and aquatic natural products. At NTNU, a central part of the project is the development of more predictable and efficient methods for the refactoring and heterologous expression of biosynthetic gene clusters (BGCs). The researcher will have a leading role in developing NTNUs experimental platform for BGC expression. The work will combine molecular biology, microbial strain engineering and synthetic biology with AI-supported design of regulatory DNA elements and expression constructs. The researcher will work closely with a PhD candidate recruited to the same scientific activity and with national and international partners in the AIMARIA consortium. The position is well suited for a researcher who would like to develop and apply advanced synthetic-biology methods to challenging microbial expression systems and contribute to the production of biologically active natural products and enzymes. Your immediate leader is Head of the department. Duties of the position • Develop and implement strategies for the design, refactoring and heterologous expression of biosynthetic gene clusters. • Design and construct expression systems, including promoters, 5′ untranslated regions and other regulatory DNA elements. • Engineer and evaluate microbial host strains for the expression of complex biosynthetic pathways. • Analyse and interpret molecular, expression and production data. • Coordinate relevant NTNU activities with partners in the AIMARIA consortium. • Contribute to project deliverables, scientific reports, presentations and peer-reviewed publications. • Present project results at consortium meetings, scientific conferences and relevant stakeholder events.
