ABOUT US Harmattan AI is a next-generation defense prime building autonomous and scalable defense systems. Following the close of a $200M Series B, valuing the company at $1.4 billion, we are expanding our teams and capabilities to deliver mission-critical systems to allied forces. Our work is guided by clear values: building technologies with real-world impact, pursuing excellence in everything we do, setting ambitious goals, and taking on the hardest technical challenges. We operate in a demanding environment where rigor, ownership, and execution are expected. About the Role As we rapidly expand our engineering teams, we are simultaneously driving our hardware portfolio toward critical deployment and mission-ready status. As the primary stakeholder for civil product compliance, you will maintain total ownership over the certification of our entire hardware stack. This high-impact position demands a hands-on approach and deep cross-functional collaboration to ensure commercial success. You will spearhead end-to-end certification initiatives across EU, US, UK and Canadian markets, partnering with RF, engineering and testing teams in Paris and Lausanne. Responsibilities * Own the compliance and certification roadmap Determine which directives, standards and authorities apply per product variant and per target market. Maintain a live roadmap back-calculated from delivery milestones and keep it current as the portfolio evolves. * Run test campaigns end-to-end Define test scopes, book and manage accredited laboratories, review setups on-site, and interpret emission and RF test results. Cover CE marking (RED, LVD, EMC), FCC, UKCA, IC ISED, RoHS/REACH and UN 38.3 battery transport requirements. Where a product fails, diagnose the cause and drive engineering to implement the necessary fix. * Build and maintain technical documentation Author technical files, test evidence packages and declarations of conformity. Establish a documentation framework that scales with the product portfolio and holds up to regulatory audit. * Embed compliance into engineering workflows Attend design reviews to catch regulatory issues early. Work daily with mechanical, electronics and RF engineering teams - serving as the go-to compliance authority across the organisation, not a gatekeeper at the end of the process. * Maintain ongoing regulatory compliance Run change-impact assessments as designs evolve. Manage relationships with notified bodies and regulatory agencies. Keep surveillance processes robust across the entire hardware lifecycle. Candidate Requirements * 5+ years in product compliance and certification at a hardware company, with at least two to three full product lifecycle completions from initial scoping through to declaration of conformity. * Solid knowledge of FCC and CE marking requirements, with hands-on experience managing radio frequency emission testing and interpreting results. * Experience with the Radio Equipment Directive (RED), EMC Directive and Low Voltage Directive and their harmonised standards. * Proven track record managing accredited laboratories and notified body relationships directly. * Project management mindset: able to track multiple parallel workstreams, anticipate where each will land and prevent issues before they become blockers. * Fluent in English (written and spoken). Nice to have: * Electrical engineering background. * Experience with UKCA, IC ISED, RoHS/REACH or UN 38.3 battery transport certification * Background in UAS, drone hardware, aerospace or defense programmes. * Defense airworthiness exposure (EMAR, STANAG) - room to grow as the roadmap develops. We look forward to hearing how you can help shape the future of autonomous defense systems at Harmattan AI.
As a Mechanical Engineer on Harmattan AI's Ground Control Systems (GCS) team, you will own the mechanical design of next-generation GCS hardware from concept through mass production. This may include a premium drone controller for ISR missions, a long-range antenna system for multiple drone vectors, or an interceptor drone launcher box. You will work at the intersection of mechanical design, RF integration, and electronics packaging to deliver field-ready, defense-grade products. Responsibilities * End-to-End Design: Design and prototype drone controllers, antenna systems, and launcher enclosures from scratch—covering structural architecture, ergonomics, thermal management, and high environmental/waterproofing (IP rating) constraints. * Product Development: Own full product development cycles end-to-end, translating operator needs into rugged, field-ready designs. * CAD Modelling & GD&T: 3D model in SolidWorks, including complex surface modelling, and produce detailed 2D drawings with GD&T to meet strict functional and assembly requirements. * DFM/DFA: Apply DFM/DFA principles systematically to minimise unit cost and assembly time at scale, collaborating closely with suppliers specialising in plastic injection molding, large-scale thermoforming, sheet metal/structural steel fabrication, CNC, and die-casting. * Simulation: Run FEA (stress, deformation) and thermal simulations (CFD/steady-state) to validate design choices early and reduce physical prototype cycles. * Testing & Validation: Conduct mechanical stress, failure analysis, and environmental testing to validate designs for extreme field conditions. * Cross-Functional Collaboration: Collaborate daily with the Electronics and RF teams on PCB integration, internal routing, and RF constraints. * Supply Chain Partnership: Partner with Supply Chain & Procurement on supplier qualification, cost targets, and the smooth transition from prototyping to mass production. * Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of designs, test results, and production workflows to support knowledge sharing and continuous improvement. Candidate Requirements * Education: Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent. * Experience: At least one full product development cycle taken from concept to mass production. * Manufacturing Expertise: Plastic injection molding experience with full DFM process and quality control; familiarity with CNC and die-cast molding. * Experience with sheet metal fabrication, heavy metallic structures and large-scale thermoforming is highly desirable. * CAD Proficiency: Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks, including complex surface modelling and 2D drawings with GD&T. * Prototyping & Integration: Hands-on rapid prototyping experience (3D printing, CNC, etc.) and a proven track record of integrating embedded electronics into complex enclosures. Nice to have: * Basic FEA (stress, deformation) and thermal simulation (steady-state, CFD) experience. * Understanding of mechanical linkages and actuator/cylinder kinematics for deployment or launching mechanisms. * Experience in defense, aerospace, UAVs, or high-end consumer electronics hardware. We look forward to hearing how you can help shape the future of autonomous defense systems at Harmattan AI.
ABOUT THE ROLE As a Mechanical Engineer on Harmattan AI's R&D Hardware Tooling team, you will design and build the internal lab fixtures, jigs, rigs, and bench structures that help our engineering teams develop and validate products faster. You will own the mechanical side of tooling end-to-end: from bench and lab fixtures to environmental validation rigs, instrument enclosures, and RF/antenna characterisation mechanics. Unlike product design optimised for mass production, tooling mechanics here prioritise precision, repeatability over many cycles, and fast in-house fabrication. You will work at the intersection of mechanics, electronics, and development across every Harmattan hardware program. TECHNICAL SKILLS RESPONSIBILITIES * Design fixtures, jigs, enclosures, and bench structures in SolidWorks with full integration of electronics and instrumentation, maintaining complete 2D drawings with GD&T to guarantee fixture precision and repeatability. * Design clamping, alignment, and actuation mechanisms — manual and pneumatic — for repeatable, ergonomic positioning of prototypes during bring-up and characterisation. * Build fixtures rapidly in-house (3D printing, CNC, aluminium framing) and via quick-turn suppliers; iterate fast based on hands-on validation with the tooling hardware and software engineers. * Own the development of bench and lab fixtures, environmental and reliability validation rigs, instrument/DAQ enclosures, RF/antenna characterisation mechanics, and modular bench structures for the R&D teams. * Validate fixture repeatability, durability over many cycles, and operator ergonomics; use basic FEA and thermal/CFD where required (e.g. environmental rigs) to confirm designs. * Manage quick-turn machining and printing suppliers; specify framing hardware and drive procurement with Supply Chain. * Define and maintain a modular, reusable fixture-mechanics standard across product teams, directly reducing bring-up time and improving characterisation repeatability. * Maintain fixture designs, drawings, build instructions, and maintenance records as the single source of truth for the team. CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS * Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Consumer Electronics, or equivalent. * Proven experience designing lab or development fixtures, jigs, or rigs — or a track record of shipping physical products with a desire to build the tools behind them. * Proficiency in SolidWorks, including complex assembly modelling and 2D drawings with GD&T. * Hands-on experience with rapid prototyping and in-house fabrication (3D printing, CNC, off-the-shelf framing systems). * Ability to integrate electronics and instrumentation into fixtures and enclosures with reliable measurement access. * Strong instinct for tolerancing, repeatability, and fixture accuracy; comfortable working to tight positional constraints. * Experience with mechanism and actuation design (clamping, alignment, pneumatic) is a strong plus. * Basic FEA and thermal/CFD to validate designs is a nice-to-have. * Appetite for ownership and fast iteration — a maker who gets hands dirty, works independently, and thrives in a small team without heavy process. We look forward to hearing how you can help shape the future of autonomous defense systems at Harmattan AI.
