Do you want to play a key role in driving health, safety, and environmental excellence in a global manufacturing environment that is critical to the energy transition? Hitachi Energy is now looking for an HSE Manager for our Composites Factory in Piteå.
The Transformers Business Unit is a core part of Hitachi Energy, enabling reliable power transmission and distribution worldwide. Within the Composites Factory in Piteå, we produce structural and electrically insulating components for high‑voltage transformers and switchgear—products that are vital for the transition to fossil‑free energy. The site operates in a complex manufacturing environment with high safety standards and a strong focus on sustainability, quality, and continuous improvement, serving customers globally both within and outside Hitachi Energy.
In this role, you will be instrumental in strengthening the HSE culture and ensuring safe, compliant, and sustainable operations across the site.
How you’ll make an impact
Lead and develop a small team of HSE Specialists
Drive performance improvements in health, safety, security and environmental practices
Ensure compliance with local regulations, internal policies, and audit requirements
Conduct regular inspections, audits, and reviews across the site
Investigate incidents and ensure learnings are shared across the organization
Train staff in HSE-related matters and support managers in acting as role models within HSE
Engage with the local community, suppliers, customers, and other stakeholders
Your background
Higher education within a relevant field
Strong knowledge and experience of Swedish HSE legislation and regulations, combined with hands-on work experience within HSE
Knowledge and experience in auditing and management systems (ISO 45001, ISO 14001, and ISO 50001)
As a person, you are supportive, methodical, structured, and result-oriented
Excellent communication and presentation skills
Fluency in both Swedish and English, written and spoken

Hitachi Energy is looking for an Environmental Specialist to join the Composites team in Piteå. Composites is part of the Transformers business unit, where we develop and manufacture market-leading composite insulators for high-voltage and ultra-high-voltage equipment. Our customers are located all over the world, both within and outside Hitachi. As an Environmental Specialist at Composites, your primary responsibility will be to ensure compliance with internal and external policies and regulations, as well as ensuring that our operations meet applicable legal requirements, as we operate an environmentally hazardous business. In this position, you will play an important role in developing environmental initiatives to support the company’s sustainability efforts and further develop our work related to ISO 14001. You will also be responsible for reporting on the development and progress of your department. Your Responsibilities Be responsible for monitoring the business’s environmental permits, activities subject to notification requirements, and ensuring compliance with the Environmental Code and other relevant regulatory requirements. Act as the company’s point of contact with supervisory authorities, municipalities, and other external stakeholders regarding environmental matters. Drive and coordinate the reporting of environmental data, key performance indicators, and mandatory reports to internal systems and authorities. Lead and support work related to chemical management, chemical risk assessments, and ensure compliance with internal requirements and applicable legislation. Develop, maintain, and improve the business’s environmental management system in accordance with ISO 14001, ensuring that processes and routines are fit for purpose and followed. Drive improvement initiatives in areas such as waste management, resource efficiency, emission reduction, and sustainable production. Train and coach managers and employees in environmental requirements, environmental risks, and sustainable ways of working. Your Background University education in environmental studies or equivalent knowledge acquired through experience. Experience working with environmental compliance, ISO standards, sustainability, hazardous waste, and chemicals. Experience driving and coordinating processes related to environmental matters. Good understanding of incident management, risk assessments, and regulatory compliance. Ability to coach, train, and support managers and employees in environmental matters. Fluency in Swedish and English, both written and spoken.
