Role and Team As a Mechanic Tech in our high production mechanic shop, you will support the mechanic shop by performing assigned diagnostic repair or maintenance on customer vehicles.  This position reports to the Mechanic Shop or designated manager. Responsibilities * A/C & Heater - Operate the system and recognize if the system is cooling or not, perform basic system checks such as power to compressor, visually inspect condenser, belt tension, etc., Identify Freon and oil leaks. * Brakes - Identify components of brake system, visually inspect brakes, identify irregular noises and leaks, perform simple system tests, Measure lining, drums, rotors, cams. Road test for proper operation, Check fluid level, adjust service and park brakes and perform repair. * Electrical Charging Systems - Visually inspect batteries, clean connections, Check condition of belts, Test batteries, Check alternator mounting and pulley, Replace and adjust belts, Perform basic charging system check. * Clutch - Lubricate bearing, linkage, shafts, and cables, Identify proper clutch operation. * Cooling Systems - Check and adjust coolant levels, antifreezes (and requirements), Visually inspect system for leaks, Make minor repairs such as hose replacements, fan shrouds, fittings, Pressure test, Flush and refill systems. * Starting/Cranking System – Inspect/ test batteries, cables and motor, clean battery cables, connections and starter. Check, charge and replace batteries, Repair/replace defective cables, Read wiring schematics. * Lighting System and Electrical Accessories - Repair minor wiring problems, replace bulbs, lenses and simple light assemblies.  Adjust/replace sealed beams, Install/replace accessories (heated mirrors, fans, spotlights, etc.). * Drive Axles - Inspect housings for leaks, change oil and filter and clean breathers. * Driveline - Lubricate drive line, Inspect components for wear or damage. * Gas Engines - Check and adjust oil levels, identify unusual noises, and oil leaks. * Fuel Systems - Replace and prime fuel filter, Check gas and diesel fuel system components such as fuel lines, pickup tubes, return lines, etc. for proper integrity and condition. * Preventive Maintenance - Proper lube techniques, Minimal tire inspection, Brake check/applied stroke, Battery check, under vehicle check/lose components, Initial Fault code identification. * Tire and Wheel Maintenance - Perform air pressure checks, Check tread depth, identify tires that need to be changed or repaired, perform tire Checks, replace tire and wheel assemblies, Mount/dismount and rotate tires. * Track and record vehicle information following department processes. * Assist in overall general shop duties such as cleaning, driving, organizing vehicle parking and staging, etc. * Provide prompt and courteous service to internal and external customers. Maintain a professional appearance and neat work environment. * Practice and promote teamwork at all times.  Set a good personal example of attitude and performance. Shift available: Weekdays: Tuesday to Friday, 3:00pm to 1:00am Ready to make an impact? Here’s how: Trouble shoot and inspect trucks and trailers using computerized and other testing methods to determine the extent of repair. Adjust equipment and repair or replace defective parts, components or systems as required meeting deadlines as scheduled. Test repaired equipment for proper performance and to ensure that work meets manufacturers' specifications. Perform and complete maintenance & mechanical services for assigned equipment including vehicle defect reports & scheduled maintenance. Follow Preventative Maintenance schedule and services as assigned to ensure maintenance repairs are completed and documented in accordance with the Highway Traffic Act Clean, lubricate and perform other routine maintenance work on equipment including service attachments and working tools. Perform duties on occasion to support the Lead Hand and/or Supervisor, including lockout procedures and defect updates. Follow HH communication procedures if equipment is not available due to service or repair and communicate equipment availability to parties directly affected by maintenance and repairs including, but not limited to Supervisor(s), Truck Drivers and Dispatch. Participate in the on-call rotation. Perform other shop related duties as assigned, including flexibility to cover vacations. We’re looking for: Heavy Equipment Technician - Truck and Trailer Mechanic or 310T Red seal certification, Commercial Driver’s License (with Air Brake Endorsement considered an asset) At minimum must possess a Class G/5 license. Basic office computer program knowledge. Ability to work independently ensuring all Health and Safety procedures are followed. Able to perform the physical duties of the role including prolonged periods of time standing, bending, crouching, and lifting up to 50 lbs. or more. Completion or continuing an apprenticeship program or combination of work experience in the trade. A College Diploma in Automotive, Heavy Duty Mechanic or Truck and Trailer Mechanic is preferred.
