Robotics Lab Technician (Assembly & Test)
About the role
You'll run the hardware acceptance, functional, and performance testing that proves our robots work — and build the systems you
test. Precision assembly of actuators, sensors, harnesses, and PCBAs is a core part of the job. Expect to work
shoulder-to-shoulder with mechanical, electrical, and controls engineers, turning rough prototypes into characterized, documented,
repeatable hardware.

Job Summary Operate and maintain the machine shop, including CNC mill, lathe, waterjet, laser cutter, and 3D printing equipment to fabricate parts requested by Engineering. This role requires someone who can manage their own workload, prioritize competing requests, and execute independently with minimal day-to-day supervision. This role will be following the lead of the Machine Shop Supervisor, but the technician will be the primary on-site presence responsible for daily shop output and organization. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on machining experience, the ability to interpret engineering drawings and produce parts to specification, and strong self-direction to keep the shop running and fabrication tickets closing on schedule. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Machining & Fabrication * Operate CNC mill, lathe, waterjet, laser cutter, and 3D printers to produce parts to specification * Read and interpret CAD drawings, technical schematics, and blueprints to determine fabrication requirements * Use CAM software to generate CNC toolpaths and run programs to close fabrication tickets * Perform quality checks on finished parts to verify they meet engineering tolerances * Troubleshoot machining issues, adjust programs, and resolve equipment problems as they arise Shop Operations & Organization * Manage daily work order prioritization and production scheduling with remote input from the Machine Shop Supervisor * Keep the shop floor organized, clean, and production-ready at all times * Perform routine maintenance on all shop equipment to prevent unplanned downtime * Coordinate with Engineering to clarify part requirements, timelines, and priorities Inventory & Procurement * Maintain consumables inventory and reorder supplies before stockouts occur * Track tooling wear and replacement needs across all shop equipment * Procure tools, materials, and equipment needed to fulfill fabrication requests * Flag large purchases or capital equipment needs to the Machine Shop Supervisor Documentation & Communication * Maintain accurate records of completed work orders, material usage, and equipment maintenance * Provide status updates to the Machine Shop Supervisor on shop output, delays, and equipment issues * Document recurring fabrication processes to build a reference library for common parts * Communicate with Engineering to confirm specifications and report completion of requests REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * 2-3 years of hands-on machine shop experience * Experience operating CNC mills and lathes * Experience operating waterjet cutters, laser cutters, or both * Experience with 3D printing workflows and materials * Ability to read and interpret technical schematics, diagrams, blueprints, and engineering drawings * Working knowledge of CAM software and CNC program generation * Ability to troubleshoot machining and equipment issues independently * Strong time management and self-direction, with the ability to prioritize work and meet deadlines without direct * Oversight PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS * Experience with multiple 3D printing technologies (FDM, SLA, SLS) * Familiarity with GD&T (Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing) * Experience with manual machining (manual mill, manual lathe) * Knowledge of materials science as it applies to machining and fabrication * Experience with shop inventory management or procurement systems SKILLS & COMPETENCIES * Technical: Strong hands-on machining ability across CNC, waterjet, laser, and additive manufacturing equipment * Self-Direction: Manages own schedule, prioritizes work orders, and delivers without day-to-day supervision * Problem-Solving: Identifies root causes of machining issues and resolves them without escalation when possible * Communication: Provides clear updates to remote supervision and coordinates with Engineering on requirements and * timelines * Organization: Keeps the shop, inventory, and documentation in order so work flows without delays Salary Range: $100,000-$110,000/K The actual salary offered is dependent on various factors including, but not limited to, location, the candidate’s combination of job-related knowledge, qualifications, skills, education, training, and experience All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment and will not be discriminated against on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, protected veteran status, age, genetic information, or pregnancy. The ideal candidate will bridge mechanical design with electronic systems integration while driving project development from concept to completion. This role offers the opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology while developing innovative solutions in a dynamic R&D environment. Responsibilities: • Take on mechanical design and development of component parts of robotic assemblies • Create detailed 3D models and 2D drawings using CAD software for manufacturing and assembly • Conduct testing, troubleshooting, and integration of mechanical systems • Collaborate with electrical and software engineers on integrated solutions • Develop solutions from initial conceptual direction with minimal guidance • Support research staff by implementing hardware changes Required Skills: • BS/MS in Mechanical Engineering or related field • 5+ years' experience in mechanical design with focus on mechatronics • Proficiency in 3D CAD software with SolidWorks • Experience with actuators, sensors, and control systems • Ability to work in a rapid R&D environment • Ability to take abstract ideas and convert them into practical engineering solutions • Able to work with high autonomy Bonus Skills: • Experience with 3d printing prototyping • Experience with Machine shop and safety practices • Knowledge of industrial automation and robotics • Familiarity with PLCs and microcontrollers • Familiarity with GD&T • Experience understanding and making electrical diagrams • A understanding of some common coding languages like C++ and python • Soldering skills • Experience in wire / cable manufacturing. As a Maintenance Technician, you will be responsible for regular preventative maintenance of equipment, robotics, facilities, and any other requested work needed by the team. This includes maximizing uptime through regular operation and observation of equipment and robotic work cells, including annotation of performance and metric collection. You will handle implementation of hardware change requests and maintenance requests, installation and assembly of new equipment, and support software researchers by manually resetting items in robotic work cells, resetting the safety system, and resolving intervention requests. Additionally, you will maintain documentation of work performed and troubleshoot electrical and mechanical issues to resolve malfunctioning equipment. Key Responsibilities: * Software * Maintain a strong understanding of System architecture * Need to be able to use SW provided by supplier / manufacturer to monitor the health of the robots. * Hardware * Will need to be able to read mechanical and electrical diagrams * Will need to trouble shoot robots and mechatronics systems when having physical problems * Will need to preform Mechanical, Electronic, Motion control and Power systems maintenance and integration * Must be able to install, maintain, and troubleshoot various actuators and sensors in robotic systems * Need to be able to work with power tools to preform repairs on versus types of robots * Will be expected to help build various obstacles and structures as needed for testing and development Qualifications: * 2-3+ years of experience working in a robotics or automation environment * 2-3+ years Experience with maintenance, repair and modification of systems * Inventory and spare parts organization and documentation experience * Part ordering experience * Team player being able to wear multiple hats and help the team as need * Must be able to prioritize work in the most efficient and effective way possible * Experience working with suppliers to create diagnostic * Testing and validation experience * Experience implementing / maintaining maintenance and repair processes and ensuring they are well documented and tracked.
