Your opportunity
As a Senior Geotechnical Engineer you will support both operating mines and development projects by providing specialist expertise in geotechnical engineering and rock mechanics. You will contribute to mine design, mining methods, extraction sequencing, and ground support strategies, ensuring geotechnical considerations are integrated into planning and operational decision-making.
The position is based at the Boliden office, with a primary focus on supporting underground mining operations. Other locations within Boliden Mines may also be considered.
Who you will work with
You will join the Rock Mechanics team within Mine Staff, a collaborative group of geotechnical specialists supporting Boliden's mining operations. The role involves close cooperation with mine planning engineers, geologists, production technology specialists, project teams, and external consultants across multiple sites.
What you will do
Provide geotechnical and rock mechanics support to underground mining operations
Contribute to mine design, mining methods, stope design, and extraction sequencing
Perform and evaluate numerical modelling for mining applications
Support feasibility studies, projects, and technical investigations
Conduct geotechnical risk assessments and contribute to Ground Control Management Plans
Evaluate ground behaviour, seismicity, and ground support requirements
Develop and improve technical standards, tools, and work processes
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver practical geotechnical solutions
Mentor and support less experienced colleagues when needed

We are looking for someone who has
BSc or MSc in Mining Engineering, Rock Mechanics, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or equivalent
Minimum five years of experience in geotechnical engineering within underground mining
Strong knowledge of mine design, mining methods, stope design, sequencing, and ground support
Experience with geotechnical risk assessment and integration of geotechnical input into mine planning
Practical experience with numerical modelling
Knowledge of seismicity, ground control practices, and Ground Control Management Plans
Proficiency in English
Valid B-class driving licence
Experience from mining projects or technical development initiatives
Experience mentoring junior engineers
Proficiency in Swedish, or willingness to learn
Experience working across multiple sites or within an international organization

Job Scope High level purpose of function. A Senior Automation Engineer in a cell manufacturing company plays a key role in developing, optimizing, and maintaining automated production systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations. They are responsible for programming, troubleshooting, and improving PLCs, robots, and other automated equipment, supporting both new production line installations and ongoing process improvements. The role also includes ensuring accurate data transfer, system connectivity, and smooth communication with cloud platforms to enable traceability, analysis, and digital integration. Close collaboration with production, engineering, and maintenance teams is required to identify and implement solutions that improve quality, throughput, and equipment uptime. A strong focus is placed on continuous improvement, safety, and scalability to meet the growing demand for electric vehicle battery production. Key Responsibilities Overall areas of responsibilities and activities Participate in HAZOP sessions and ensure compliance with process safety, operational safety, and environmental standards relating to equipment control and programming. Responsible for the FATs of the equipment (Project timeline dependent). Lead automation system integration during equipment commissioning (Project timeline dependent). This role combines hands-on equipment commissioning experience, cross-functional collaboration, and technical expertise to deliver safe, efficient, and high-quality battery cell production. A Senior Manufacturing Engineer is responsible for all aspects of their process machine including technical functionality, how personnel interact with it, what maintenance activities are recommended and what crucial spares are required.
