Software Engineer – Building Software for the Energy Transition in the Age of AI We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer to join St1’s Software Engineering team — a team operating at the intersection of energy transition and modern software development. We build and operate software products and solutions across multiple business domains, owning the full lifecycle from idea to production. Whether it is charging or fueling your car, enabling an automated car wash, or tracking how used cooking oil becomes sustainable biofuel, the software behind these experiences is built by our team. This role is for an engineer who enjoys working close to the business while bringing strong technical expertise. You will collaborate with business stakeholders, architects, and technical specialists from early discovery and solution design through implementation and delivery. You are comfortable translating business needs into technical solutions and challenging assumptions when needed. Building software in the age of AI At St1, AI is more than a coding assistant. We are exploring how software engineering should evolve in an AI-enabled world. You will help shape new ways of working by building AI-integrated development pipelines, experimenting with agents, and exploring effective collaboration between humans and AI. We expect hands-on experience with modern AI tools, an understanding of their strengths and limitations, and curiosity to explore what comes next. About the role Brickanta is built by an AI-veteran team. We've been shipping AI systems since 2018 and have built technical products inside some of the world's biggest brands. Now we're pointing that at a $15 trillion industry that software mostly forgot. We build for a domain where reliability matters: high-stakes decisions, messy inputs, real money on the line. We're 20 people and moving fast. At our size you own big parts of the backend that the whole product stands on. You'll get fuzzy problems like "document ingestion needs to be fast and reliable," along with the room to decide what to build and the mandate to ship it. We don't optimize for credentials. We optimize for builders who ship. What you'll build and own The core services behind bid analysis, estimation, and procurement: APIs, data pipelines, background jobs, and the plumbing that turns messy construction inputs (documents, specs, standards, drawings) into structured data our AI can reason over and our customers can trust The data layer itself. Schema design, query performance, and the indexing and batching decisions that keep things fast as records pile up The architecture that outlives any single feature. You make the calls on data model, service boundaries, when to add a queue, and what breaks at 10x, and the rest of the team builds on them for years Reliability and evaluation infrastructure: the systems that measure quality, catch regressions, and make AI output repeatable and measurable Performance and observability that hold up as usage scales, so the product stays fast and debuggable under real load Integrations and forward-deployed problem-solving that make it work in the customer's reality The systems live in production, which means you run them. You're on call for what you build, and you write code that's debuggable when something goes wrong at 3am You're probably a fit if you Have shipped and operated backend systems in production. You've been on call, debugged the thing at 2am, and learned from it Have real fluency with SQL and relational data. You anticipate bottlenecks and can read the metrics after you ship to confirm it's working Have the judgment to know when to build something properly versus ship a rough version and revisit, which corners are safe to cut, and when "clever" is a liability. You've felt the consequences of getting this wrong Reason from user pain → solution → measurable outcome Care about correctness in messy, real-world data, including the edge cases that only appear in production Move fast and care about craft at the same time Raise the people around you through code review, patterns others follow, and mentoring, without slowing your own shipping Work with little management. You surface risks early, push back on shaky requirements, and translate between technical reality and business need, including talking to construction customers directly Have opinions about AI and LLM systems in production (evals, reliability, latency, cost) or are hungry to develop them How we work AI is core to how we build, not a bolt-on. We work AI-first day to day, encode our conventions and hard-won lessons into skill files, and expect everyone here to sharpen that craft as agentic engineering matures. If you've been pushing the edge of how AI fits into real engineering work, you'll fit right in. What success looks like In your first month you've shipped something real to production, you understand our stack and the shape of construction data, and you're already flagging what's fragile By your first quarter you own a core backend surface end to end. When it breaks, people look to you, and it breaks less because of decisions you've made By your first year the architecture you drove is load-bearing across the product, new engineers ramp faster on the patterns you set, and the systems you own are ones the team trusts without thinking about them Tech stack Something like: language and framework (e.g. Python/FastAPI, TypeScript/Node), primary database (e.g. Postgres), queue and cache (e.g. Redis), infra and deployment (e.g. AWS, Docker), plus the LLM tooling you use. List what a hire will actually touch. You can add the standard Brickanta line: prior experience with our exact stack is a nice-to-have, not a requirement. How we evaluate Show us what you've built: repos, demos, shipped products, systems you've owned end to end What you've made work counts for more than where you worked Note: Sweden is Brickanta's first and most important market. Working comfort in English is required; Swedish is a plus but not required. Keen on doing your life's work, bringing one of the world's largest and most impactful industries, the $15 trillion construction industry, into the AI era?
We’re looking for a Cloud Engineer who enjoys working in the space where developers and infrastructure meet. Here, you’ll spend your time automating the mundane, architecting the complex, and scaling the future of our Azure AI and OpenAI offerings. This role is for you if you find more joy in writing a PowerShell script to solve a recurring app error than in managing a cluster’s networking. This is a code-centric role where infrastructure is treated as a software product. Everything you build is versioned, reviewed, tested, and continuously improved. Our goal is to reduce repetitive work and create the “Golden Paths” that let developers and AI teams deploy quickly, securely, and reliably. About the role: As a Cloud Engineer, you’ll help build and grow our Azure-based platform. You’ll own the design, automation, and delivery of modular cloud infrastructure, ensuring it’s resilient, scalable, and easy for teams to use. Your work will reduce friction, remove unnecessary steps, and make it simple for developers and data teams to focus on building features instead of worrying about infrastructure. What you’ll do: Build the "Golden Path" Pipelines: You won't just "run" pipelines; you will architect them. You’ll design and maintain CI/CD templates (YAML-based) that standardize how our applications are built, tested, and deployed. Your goal is to make the path from code-complete to production-ready as invisible and frictionless as possible for our developers. Automated Application Remediation: We don't believe in manual maintenance. You will use PowerShell and Azure DevOps to build automated pipelines for things like patching the container OS, reporting on deviations and self healing infrastructure Infrastructure as Versioned Code: You’ll design and implement modular Azure infrastructure using Infrastructure as Code (Bicep), following the Azure Well-Architected Framework for reliability, performance, and cost. We are looking for you who have: Expert-level PowerShell skills: We operate in an environment where automation is built on PowerShell first. (Bash & Python are secondary) Proven experience with Azure Bicep: You should be comfortable treating infrastructure as a software product, versioning, testing and modularizing Bicep code. Developer-centric approach: You don't need to be a fullstack developer, but you need to understand application logic enough to automate patching, troubleshoot database connections, and optimize application performance within the cloud. Fluency in English (written and spoken). You’ll be comfortable owning tasks end to end and making technical decisions independently within the areas listed above. Ideally, you have some years of hands-on experience with Azure, containers, and CI/CD pipelines, but we care more about what you can do and that you enjoy the field, rather than the exact number of years. It's positive if you have: Active Azure certifications such as AZ-400 (DevOps Engineer), AZ-305 (Solutions Architect), AZ-204 (Developer Associate) Experience from regulated or security-conscious environments is a plus In addition to this, it is important to us that you recognize yourself in our values: we are wholehearted, we collaborate and we take the lead.
