Blykalla is developing and commercializing lead-cooled Small Modular Reactors (SMRs) to provide safe, reliable, and fossil-free

Reliable and accurate instrumentation is fundamental to the safe operation of any nuclear power plant. As Blykalla develops its
lead-cooled SMR technology, we are building an in-house instrumentation capability to define, specify, and integrate the
measurement systems that provide the data required for plant control, protection, monitoring, diagnostics, and regulatory
compliance.
We are seeking a Senior Instrumentation Engineer to lead the specification, integration, and lifecycle management of
instrumentation systems for Blykalla's lead-cooled SMR.
This role will be responsible for defining instrumentation requirements, ensuring that measurement systems meet the demanding
requirements of reactor operation while working closely with automation, control systems, electrical, mechanical, process, and
safety engineers.
The Senior Instrumentation Engineer sits in the Plant Engineering Team within Blykalla, and reports to the Plant engineering
manager. We are a diverse team that is passionate about our work and Blykalla.
Instrumentation System Design
Measurement System Engineering
Develop instrumentation solutions for measurement of temperature, pressure, differential pressure, flow, level, density,
vibration, position, speed, radiation (where applicable) and chemistry and process analyzers.
Support instrumentation for reactor systems, primary coolant systems, heat transport systems, steam and energy conversion systems,
auxiliary systems, HVAC systems, water treatment systems and fuel handling systems.
Instrumentation Documentation
Develop and maintain instrument data sheets, instrument index, I/O lists, hook-up drawings, instrument location plans,
installation specifications, instrument specifications, calibration requirements and inspection and test plans.
Support development of P&IDs, functional descriptions, cause-and-effect matrices, instrument loop diagrams and control
philosophies.
System Integration
Work closely with automation, control systems, electrical, mechanical, process, reactor and safety engineers to ensure
instrumentation supports plant operation, protection, diagnostics, and maintenance.
Define interfaces between field instrumentation and plant DCS, PLC, and protection systems.

As we advance toward deployment of our first commercial reactors, we are expanding our electrical engineering capability to develop and own the electrical architecture of our plants. While key Balance of Plant (BoP) systems will be designed with engineering partners, Blykalla will retain ownership of the overall electrical design philosophy, requirements, system architecture, and integration. We are seeking a Senior Electrical Engineer to lead the development of the electrical power system architecture for Blykalla's lead-cooled SMR plants. This role combines hands-on power system engineering with technical leadership and systems integration. You will be responsible for developing the electrical design basis for the plant, performing and overseeing power system studies, defining requirements for external engineering partners, and ensuring that delivered designs meet Blykalla's technical, operational, safety, and licensing requirements. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES Plant Electrical System Architecture * Develop the overall electrical system architecture for Blykalla's reactor plants. * Define the plant distribution philosophy covering: * Grid connection * Generator systems * Auxiliary power systems * Emergency power systems * Station blackout provisions * Black-start strategies * AC and DC systems * UPS systems * Define interfaces between Nuclear Island and Balance of Plant electrical systems. * Establish design standards and engineering specifications for future reactor deployments. Power System Studies Perform and oversee electrical studies including: * Load flow studies * Short-circuit studies * Protection coordination studies * Arc flash studies * Motor starting studies * Harmonic analysis * Dynamic and transient stability studies * Voltage regulation studies * Grid compliance studies * Earthing and grounding studies * Reliability and availability assessments * Develop and maintain plant electrical models using tools such as: ETAP, DIgSILENT PowerFactory, PSCAD, SKM, EasyPower, PSS®E Nuclear Island Electrical Design Lead the design of electrical systems within the Nuclear Island, including: * HV, MV, and LV distribution systems * Reactor auxiliary power systems * Safety-related power systems * DC systems and battery systems * UPS systems * Electrical equipment layouts * Earthing and lightning protection systems * Electrical interfaces with instrumentation and control systems * Electrical support for reactor startup, operation, and shutdown modes Engineering Partner Management * Develop technical requirements and design specifications for external engineering partners. * Review and approve electrical deliverables produced by EPCs, consultants, and design houses. * Ensure partner designs comply with Blykalla requirements and applicable standards. * Manage technical interfaces across multiple disciplines and suppliers. * Lead design reviews, HAZOPs, and multidisciplinary engineering workshops. Licensing & Safety Support * Support development of nuclear licensing documentation. * Contribute to safety analyses involving electrical systems. * Support deterministic and probabilistic safety assessments. * Provide technical input to regulators, independent reviewers, and certification bodies. * Develop electrical system design documentation supporting future licensing activities. Grid Integration * Lead grid connection studies and utility interactions. * Define grid code compliance requirements. * Support negotiations with transmission and distribution system operators. * Develop requirements for plant electrical performance under grid disturbances and abnormal operating conditions. WHAT YOU’LL GET TO DO We are seeking a Senior Control Systems Engineer with deep expertise in ABB 800xA DCS to lead the development of Blykalla's plant control system architecture and implementation strategy. This is a unique opportunity to help define the control philosophy of a first-of-a-kind advanced nuclear reactor. You will play a key role in ensuring that Blykalla develops and retains ownership of critical control system intellectual property while working closely with ABB and other suppliers. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES DCS Architecture & Ownership * Lead the design and development of Blykalla's plant-wide automation and control system architecture. * Define the ABB 800xA system architecture for reactor, balance-of-plant, auxiliary, and test facility applications. * Develop internal engineering standards, libraries, templates, and control strategies to maximize in-house ownership of intellectual property. * Establish long-term governance for control system design, lifecycle management, cybersecurity, and configuration control. Control System Engineering * Develop functional specifications, control narratives, cause-and-effect matrices, and automation philosophies. * Design and implement control logic, sequences, interlocks, alarms, and operator interfaces. * Configure ABB 800xA applications, controllers, engineering environments, and HMI systems. * Define communication architectures including OPC UA, IEC 61850, Modbus, Profibus/Profinet, Ethernet/IP, and other industrial protocols. * Develop and maintain simulation and testing environments for control system validation. Nuclear Plant Integration * Support the integration of reactor systems, safety systems, and balance-of-plant equipment into the overall control architecture. * Work closely with reactor, thermal-hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and safety engineers to define system requirements. * Contribute to licensing and regulatory documentation related to instrumentation and control systems. * Support development of digital I&C architectures aligned with nuclear industry expectations and international standards. Vendor & Stakeholder Management * Act as the primary technical interface with ABB regarding 800xA architecture, licensing, engineering tools, and implementation support. * Ensure that Blykalla retains ownership of application software, engineering databases, configuration standards, and control strategies. * Manage external engineering partners and system integrators where required. * Participate in factory acceptance tests (FAT), site acceptance tests (SAT), commissioning, and startup activities. Verification & Validation * Develop testing methodologies for control logic verification and system validation. * Lead integration testing and commissioning activities. * Support development of digital twins and operator training simulators. * Ensure traceability from requirements through implementation and testing. The role As a Data Scientist at Legora you will turn data into decisions. You'll sit close to the business, taking questions end-to-end: shaping the metric, modelling the data in dbt, running the analysis, and making the recommendation. You'll pull in new data sources when you need to, but the underlying instrumentation and platform belong to our data engineering team. Insights are useful; impact is what we hire for. What you will be doing Partner with stakeholders across Product, Finance, GTM, Growth, and beyond to translate ambiguous questions into structured analyses and clear recommendations. Define the metrics that matter, design the experiments or analyses that test them, and measure the impact of what we ship. Conduct deep-dive analyses on the questions that move the business, and proactively surface the questions nobody is asking yet. Model the data you need for your work in dbt, pulling in new sources when necessary, and partner closely with data engineering on anything that needs to scale beyond your immediate use case. Build dashboards and reporting that scale beyond you, so the company can answer its own questions where possible. Help shape how the data team operates as we scale: standards, tooling, ways of working. What you'll need Strong proficiency in SQL and Python. Solid grasp of data modelling and what it takes to build analytical work that is reliable and trusted. Excellent communication skills and the confidence to influence decisions through data storytelling, including pushing back when the data doesn't support what someone wants to do. Genuine depth in at least one of the following, with competence across the rest and curiosity to grow: Data modelling and analytics engineering (dbt, dimensional modelling, semantic layers, self-service) Experimentation and causal inference (A/B test design, quasi-experiments, statistical rigour) Machine learning and applied data science (forecasting, prediction, segmentation, evaluation) Product analytics and metric design (funnels, cohorts, adoption frameworks, North Star metrics) Nice to have Experience in a product-led or SaaS environment, ideally B2B. Hands-on experience with our stack: Snowflake, dbt, Hex, Dagster. Prior experience as an early data hire at a fast-growing company, i.e. you've built the muscle, not inherited it.
