What you'll get to do
We're seeking an experienced Nuclear Safety Engineer within deterministic safety analysis to join our Nuclear Engineering & Safety team in Stockholm. In this role, you will analyze the safety case for our lead-cooled fast reactor designs, using deterministic methods on transient and accident conditions. An important part of the job is to document your work with the aim of supporting regulatory interactions, thereby ensuring that our SMRs meet and demonstrate the highest level of nuclear safety throughout design, licensing, and deployment. More specifically, you will:
Develop and maintain the deterministic safety analysis case for our cutting-edge lead-cooled fast reactor designs
Perform simulation and analysis of transient and accident conditions using computer codes such as Bella, Apros and Spectra, as well as fuel performance and/or CFD tools, depending on skills and interest.
Develop and maintain a transparent and efficient ecosystem of computer codes, plant models, verification & validation cases and all associated documentation.
Prepare safety analysis reports and technical submittals for regulatory review
Stay current with advances in safety methodologies, computer codes, regulatory requirements, and international standards

The Nuclear Safety & Licensing Engineer sits in the Nuclear Engineering & Safety team within Blykalla, and reports to the manager of Nuclear Engineering & Safety. We are a diverse team that is passionate about our work and our company. Cross-functional interaction with the fuel performance team will be an important part of your job.

Master's degree in engineering, physics, or related field
5-10 years of experience in deterministic safety analysis for any commercial reactor types
Strong understanding of reactor safety principles, defense-in-depth, transients and accident phenomenology
Familiarity with regulatory frameworks (SSM, NRC, IAEA, or equivalent) and licensing processes
Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and technical writing skills
Fluent in English, spoken and written
Fluency in Swedish, spoken and written

What you’ll get to do As a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer, you will work as a key technical contributor in the design, analysis, and development of mechanical systems for our SMRs. Critically evaluate results from mechanical, thermal, and fluid analyses and iterate designs accordingly. Support prototyping, testing, and design verification activities. Collaborate with R&D, safety, and manufacturing teams to ensure robust and compliant designs. Ensure designs meet applicable industry standards, safety requirements, and quality processes. Communicate technical progress and design decisions within project teams. Who’ll you’ll get to work with The Senior Mechanical Design Engineer sits in the engineering team within Blykalla, and reports to the Mechanical Engineering Manager. We are a diverse team that is passionate about our work and Blykalla. Who you are You will be part of a highly skilled engineering team with a strong sense of ownership and curiosity. To succeed in this role, we believe you bring the following: Required: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. 8 or more years of experience in mechanical design engineering, with a strong focus on 3D CAD and design of large-scale components. Broad mechanical engineering expertise spanning design and manufacturing. Experience working in regulated industries with structured engineering processes, safety regulations, and quality requirements. Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail. Excellent communication and collaboration skills. Fluency in spoken and written English. Considered a merit: Experience from the nuclear industry, including familiarity with nuclear codes and standards (e.g. ASME, RCC) and nuclear quality assurance processes. Experience with FEM simulations and/or thermal or fluid simulations (CFD). Experience with risk assessment methods such as FMEA. Fluency in Swedish.
