The Role We are looking for a Senior Backend Engineer to join our R&D Sync organization, working in a hybrid setup based at our HQ in Solna, Stockholm. You will play a vital role in evolving Zyntai Director, our management system designed to orchestrate thousands of TimeNodes globally. You’ll join a team that owns the full lifecycle of a modern, cloud-native product line — giving you significant influence over technical direction and architectural decisions as we continue to scale. Your Impact Collaborative Evolution: Take collective responsibility for the system's architecture, ensuring it remains scalable and robust as our customer base grows. Develop & Refine: Design and implement high-quality backend services using Node.js and TypeScript. Cloud-Native Ownership: Work hands-on with our infrastructure, utilizing Docker, Kubernetes, and AWS to ensure a seamless deployment lifecycle. Solve for Scale: Handle complex challenges related to metrics collection, real-time visualization, and alarm handling for large-scale networks. Quality & Mentorship: Drive high engineering standards through testing and knowledge sharing in an environment where "engineers can be engineers." Customer-Centric Problem Solving: You are happy to engage in technical dialogues with our Support and Customer Success teams – and occasionally directly with customers – to ensure our solution truly meets their needs. Who You Are You are a seasoned engineer who thrives in the intersection of backend logic and cloud infrastructure. You enjoy having a holistic view of the product and take pride in writing clean, maintainable code that solves real-world synchronization problems. 8+ years of experience in professional software engineering, specifically with technically advanced or distributed systems. We are now looking for a System Engineer to join our team working in both national and international versatile projects. Together with people that are excited about innovative technology projects and driving customer success, you will deploy our unique solution for transporting time with extremely high precision over IP infrastructure. ABOUT THE POSITION  As a System Engineer within our Customer Success Sync team, you will play a key role in expanding our telecom operator business in selected target markets. You will support customer engineering teams in project execution, with a particular focus on mission-critical sync network deployments. You collaborate naturally across customers and internal teams, build trust through your expertise, and take ownership of your work. You are curious, analytical, and motivated by solving complex technical challenges while driving activities forward independently. You will be part of our global Synchronization team, based at our headquarters in Sweden, with the flexibility to work remotely in a hybrid setup.  Key Responsibilities: Act as a trusted advisor to customers, supporting them with network design, integration, testing and commissioning of Net Insight’s Synchronization Solutions Lead technical investigations, troubleshooting and performance analysis in complex customer environments  Develop and deliver technical documentation, workshops and customer training sessions Work closely with our global network of resellers and system integration partners providing technical guidance throughout the project lifecycle Travel regularly to support customers and partners in project execution phases and establish close collaboration with customer engineering teams.  Collaborate closely with R&D and sales engineering teams to share insights, solve challenges, continuously improve customer experience and how we work.   WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR  We are looking for a tech-savvy, customer-focused professional who thrives in a fast-paced collaborative team environment. We are now looking for a senior engineer with deep knowledge of automatic control, estimation, signal processing and mathematical modelling — combined with strong software engineering skills in modern C++ and Python. This is not a general C++ role. It is a role for someone who wants to work close to the core algorithms, understand the underlying control problem, and turn advanced theory into robust production software. A Zyntai network consists of hundreds or thousands of TimeNodes that continuously exchange time information and measurements. The system uses this data to estimate network and oscillator behavior and to control the local clock in each node. This requires advanced algorithms within control theory, estimation, filtering, signal processing and mathematical optimization. The core challenge is to distribute time over complex networks with extremely high accuracy — without depending on GNSS. The team develops the algorithms and software used to process measurement data, estimate system behavior and control the oscillator in each TimeNode. You will work with methods such as Kalman filtering, Model Predictive Control, PI/PID controllers, state estimation, signal processing and mathematical optimization. Most implementation is done in modern C++ in the TimeNodes. Python is used for modelling, analysis, tooling, testing and development in Zyntai Director, Net Insight’s Kubernetes-based orchestration system for managing TimeNodes. You need to be comfortable moving between theory and implementation: from mathematical reasoning and control system design to production-quality software in a distributed system. YOUR PROFILE We are looking for a senior engineer who combines strong knowledge within control systems with the ability to build high-quality software. You probably enjoy understanding the underlying system — not just the codebase. You like mathematical and algorithmic challenges, and you are comfortable discussing control loops, estimation, stability, filtering, optimization and real-world system behavior. You do not need to have worked with time synchronization before, but you need strong experience from automatic control, applied mathematics, signal processing, robotics, cybernetics, telecom, industrial systems or similar areas.
