We are now looking for a Staff Backend Engineer to drive the innovation, scale, and technical direction of the systems that empower millions of creators to elevate their content.
About the Role
As a Staff Backend Engineer, you will be a strategic technical leader across multiple teams within the Soundtrack area. You’ll play a key role in bringing our mission to life through architectural oversight, hands-on coding, and close collaboration with senior leaders across tech, product, and design.
In Soundtrack we are constantly breaking new ground to build the best tools for soundtracking for creators. We serve our AI powered features across a broad range of clients, and our backend capability platform needs to support this advanced product ecosystem in a flexible yet structured way. We solve exciting and complex problems in the intersection of sound, video, software engineering and machine learning, utilizing both agentic workflows and generative AI.
You’ll work on a broad range of initiatives, from defining core architectural foundations to driving technical choices that affect our entire backend ecosystem. You’ll lead by example, mentor other engineers, drive platform decisions, and ensure our microservices architecture is robust, scalable, and built for the long term.
Responsibilities
Set technical direction: Define the backend strategy across the product area, ensuring a scalable and maintainable architecture that aligns with our ambitious product goals.
Architect complex systems: Act as a primary partner to engineering and product leads, translating complex business requirements into elegant, performant backend solutions that align with machine learning and frontend requirements.
Lead high-impact discovery: Drive early-stage technical discovery for important initiatives, making strategic trade-offs and mapping out execution paths for multiple teams.
Raise the engineering bar: Promote backend excellence by championing best practices in API design, system resilience, security, and observability across the organization.
Mentor & coach: Inspire and grow technical capabilities across the tech organization, fostering a culture of feedback, mob programming, and continuous learning.
Platform strategy: Align backend frameworks, tooling, and conventions across teams to enable fast, safe, and consistent development.
What we’re looking for
Deep backend skills: You have extensive experience with modern backend technologies, preferably Go (or languages like Kotlin/Python) and a deep understanding of distributed systems and microservices.
Architectural vision: A proven track record of leading complex technical projects from initial strategy through to execution at scale.
Infrastructure fluency: Deep experience building scalable and reliable software systems.
Holistic leadership: You balance hands-on coding with big-picture systems thinking, capable of moving between deep-dives into code and high-level architectural planning.
Collaborative mindset: Excellent communication skills with the ability to align diverse stakeholders and thrive in a cross-functional, agile environment.
Product mindset: A passion for building high-quality, user-centered software and an understanding of how technical choices impact the end-user experience.

About the Team We are the team responsible for ensuring that parcels move through our terminal network in the most efficient and cost-effective way possible. Our systems provide sorting instructions that guide parcels between terminals and to their final destinations, whether that’s a customer, parcel locker, or delivery partner. We also deliver real-time parcel data and location insights, enabling smooth and transparent operations across our entire sorting network. Our Vision Our objective is ambitious, We strive to achieve operational excellence across our 40+ terminals in Europe. Any parcel should be able to enter the terminal sorting network at any point and immediately be ready for the next step towards its destination. To achieve this, we ensure that everyone interacting with a parcel — from systems to people — can make smart, fast, and data-driven decisions that minimize the total cost of the flow. The team consists of our Engineering Manager, three skilled Backend Engineers, a Product Manager, and a Staff Engineer. This recruitment is to replace one of our Backend Engineers who recently resigned. About the Role As a Senior Backend Engineer in the Sorting team, you’ll play a key role in shaping how parcels move through our network. You’ll take ownership of projects, features, and the team's scope, from design to delivery, and collaborate closely with engineers, product managers, and stakeholders to solve complex problems that directly impact our operations. You’ll also act as a mentor and technical coach for other engineers, helping to raise the overall technical bar of the team. When things break (as they sometimes do), you’ll be trusted to lead the way in resolving critical issues calmly and effectively. What you'll do Take ownership of designing, implementing, and delivering backend features and projects within your domain. Break down complex engineering challenges and guide others through solving them. Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code that your peers regard as high quality. Lead by example in ensuring system stability, performance, and scalability. Contribute to and improve our technical roadmap — identifying gaps and proposing meaningful improvements. Mentor and onboard other engineers, fostering a high-performing and collaborative team culture. Participate in incident management and ensure learnings turn into long-term improvements. Collaborate across teams and domains to ensure smooth integrations and a unified technical approach. About You You’re an experienced backend engineer with solid experience in Go (or a similar strongly typed language). We mainly work with Go, but you'll touch legacy systems built in JavaScript, Python, Java, or Kotlin. If you’ve seen a bit of everything and enjoy bringing old systems up to modern standards, that’s a bonus! You have a deep understanding of building distributed systems and APIs in a cloud environment (preferably GCP or AWS). You balance long-term stability with short-term delivery needs, and you care about quality. You’re proactive, when you see a problem, you raise it and help solve it. You enjoy mentoring others, giving and receiving feedback, and contributing to a strong engineering culture. You’re comfortable with ambiguity and confident making decisions that move things forward. You understand how technology and operations connect, and you want your work to have a real impact. Job Description As a Senior Software Engineer in the Price Adjustments product, you will design, build, and improve secure, scalable backend solutions that support pricing and adjustment capabilities across H&M. You will work end-to-end across the software lifecycle, from solution design and development to testing, release, maintenance, and continuous improvement. WHAT YOU'LL DO Design and develop scalable, secure, and high-performing backend systems using .NET/C#. Drive API design and system-level decisions with focus on maintainability, performance, and extensibility. Strong experience with .NET Framework / C# and backend development in enterprise environments. About the role & the team As our iOS Engineer, you’ll help shape our new app and its extensions, including the Apple Watch app. The app already supports tens of thousands (soon hundreds of thousands 😉) customers in optimizing their energy use. Our iOS app is built with SwiftUI and Swift concurrency, connected to a newly developed backend, using Apple’s latest frameworks. The minimum iOS version is 16 (but is being bumped to 18 this fall).
