Are you ready to work hands-on with the magnets that keep CERN's accelerators running?
The Magnets, Superconductors and Cryostats (MSC) group of the Technology Department (TE) designs, onstructs and measures the superconducting and normal conducting magnets for the CERN accelerator complex. The group is also in charge of integrating magnets into the CERN accelerator complex, designing and procuring magnet cryostats and performing magnet quality control. In addition, it provides operational support for magnets, magnet performance and related devices such as current leads.
Within MSC, the Normal Conducting Magnets (NCM) section is responsible for the design, construction, ommissioning, maintenance, and upgrade of the normal conducting magnets for present and future CERN accelerators and beam lines.

- Your responsibilities:
- Participate in the refurbishment, manufacture and testing of normal conducting magnets in CERN workshops including the compilation of related quality control documents.
- Carry out preventive and corrective maintenance interventions on normal conducting magnets installed in the CERN accelerator complex.
- Contribute to the design, development, and procurement of dedicated tools, equipment and components required for both refurbishment activities and the production of new normal conducting magnets.

- Manufacture and assembly of electromechanical devices.

- Knowledge and application of joining techniques: welding, brazing, soldering.

- Has a structured and organised approach towards work; is able to set priorities and plan tasks with results in mind.
- Readily accepts new tasks or work/projects.
- Spoken and written English or French, with a commitment to learn the other language.
- Medical hazard:
- Operations on electrical installations or in their vicinity (> 1000 Volt AC or 1500 Volt DC) requiring a specific authorisation.
- Exposure to electromagnetic fields under certain exposure conditions.
- Use of certain mobile work equipment or equipment used for lifting loads (lifting equipment, bridge cranes, aerial work platforms, etc.) requiring a driving authorisation.
Given the occupational health risks associated with this position, the selected candidate must obtain medical clearance before a contract offer is confirmed.
- Employment conditions:
- A valid driving licence.
- Stand-by duty, when required by the needs of the Organisation.
- Interventions in underground installations.
- Work in Radiation Areas.

- You are a national of a CERN Member State or Associate Member State. Currently, we cannot consider applications from Pakistani and Lithuanian nationals for positions with a 2026 start date, as the ceiling defined under Article II.5 of the Associate Membership Agreement has been reached.

- If you have previously held a Staff contract at CERN, you will not be eligible for these positions.
