A HIL framework developer designs, implements, and maintains Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing systems and their underlying frameworks to validate embedded software and hardware for complex products, particularly in the automotive industry. Key responsibilities include developing automated HIL test environments using tools like dSPACE or NI Veristand, creating and executing test cases, analyzing results, integrating software and hardware models, and contributing to CI/CD pipelines. This role requires strong MATLAB/Simulink, C/C++, and Python skills, knowledge of test automation, and a deep understanding of embedded systems and functional safety.
Key Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain the architecture of HIL test systems and the software frameworks that run them.
Implement automated tests within the HIL environment to improve efficiency and enable continuous integration/continuous deployment (CI/CD).
Integrate real-time physical models and software models (eg, with MATLAB/Simulink) into the HIL environment.
Your role As an Embedded Verification Engineer with us, you will work as a consultant, supporting leading automotive clients in the development and verification of next-generation embedded systems for vehicles. You will contribute to advanced development projects within areas such as vehicle control systems, ADAS, electrification, connectivity, and infotainment. In this role, you will work closely with software developers, system engineers, and hardware teams to ensure high-quality, robust, and safe embedded solutions that meet automotive industry standards. Your work will include designing and implementing verification strategies, developing automated test solutions, and contributing to the continuous improvement of testing processes. You will be involved in verification activities across multiple levels, from unit and integration testing to full system validation. The role also includes working with Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) and Software-in-the-Loop (SIL) environments, debugging complex embedded systems, and integrating automated tests into modern CI/CD pipelines. We are looking for someone with experience in: Designing, developing, and maintaining verification and test solutions for embedded automotive systems, including developing and executing test cases at unit, integration, and system levels Programming in C and/or C++, with a strong understanding of software programming hygiene such as readability, maintainability, modular design, version control discipline, and clean coding practices Python and/or Bash scripting for automation and testing workflows Working with embedded operating systems such as Linux, QNX, Android, or other RTOS environments, including basic knowledge of the Android framework Version control and CI/CD tools such as Git, Gerrit, and Jenkins Working in automotive development environments following ASPICE and/or ISO 26262 Verification and testing in HIL (Hardware-in-the-Loop) and/or SIL (Software-in-the-Loop) environments, as well as working with diagnostics, software download processes, and DBC files You have a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a related field. You are fluent in English. Swedish is highly meritorious depending on client assignment. You are a curious person who enjoys exploring different domains within the automotive industry. You have a flexible mindset and enjoy adapting to rapidly evolving technologies. You are comfortable taking initiative and applying a software engineering mindset in a traditionally mechanically driven industry. Meritorious experience It is considered a plus if you: Have experience within automotive domains such as ADAS, powertrain, electrification, chassis, or vehicle connectivity Have knowledge of AUTOSAR Classic and/or Adaptive, including basic understanding of ARXML and AUTOSAR configuration concepts Have experience working with automotive communication protocols such as CAN, LIN, FlexRay, or Ethernet Are familiar with test automation frameworks, test management tools, and development of safety-critical systems Have curiosity and hands-on experience using AI as a coding partner, or experience architecting solutions with support from AI-based tools Why Knowit?
