The Global Technology Center plays a key role in delivering advanced designs, materials, manufacturing methods, and inspection solutions for engine systems. Key responsibilities We are looking for an Associate Research Engineer / Specialist to join our Research Centre with a strong interest in inspection of manufacturing processes, particularly within aerospace applications. In this role, you will: • Perform inspection and evaluation of specimens produced through Additive Manufacturing (AM) processes • Correlate inspection results to support and enable AM process and material development • Work closely with process development teams to improve manufacturing quality and reliability • Contribute to the development of inspection methodologies for advanced aerospace components • Analyze inspection data to drive process optimization and defect understanding. •Travel will occur. Travel to other locations in EU/US is included in the role if necessary. What You Will Learn: • Various NDT methods (X-ray Computed Tomography, Radiography, Thermography, Ultrasonic) • Your focus will be on X-ray CT and Radiography • You will have the opportunity to collaborate with world leading experts in NDT field both within GKN Aerospace and within other industry partners. Qualifications • MSc in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Production Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Physics or a related field; alternatively, a BSc in a relevant discipline with at least 2 years of industry experience. • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear technical reports and deliver effective presentations. • Fluent in English. • Develops new NDT processes, transitions emerging technologies into production, and ensures continuous improvement through effective lessons learned, knowledge capture, and process development. • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, including additive manufacturing techniques. • Knowledge of non-destructive testing (NDT) methods. • Hands-on experience with X-ray Computed Tomography and/or radiography is considered a plus. • Experience in Computer-Aided Engineering (CAE) tools is advantageous. • Programming skills and/or experience with AI-related methods are considered an asset. Your primary focus will be to develop control software in C++ and Go as well as associated software architecture in collaboration with developers from both the local office and from other offices within the global organization. The controller is running an embedded Linux, and cooperates with other components within a printer, such as MCUs and FPGAs. Influence technology selection and decision within company and across major customers together with the team. Lead and facilitate high-level software estimation to support business planning activities. Mentor and teach other software engineers in improving their skills. Lead design reviews and drive improvements in design and code quality produced by internal and external engineers. Influence and inspire others through personal creditability. Drive continuous improvement in source control and continuous integration by staying up to date with the latest industry practices and tools. What you need to have: Bachelor's degree or Master's degree with significant professional experience developing software. Demonstrable record of developing high-quality embedded software for end-user products from requirements analysis to delivery. Experience with cross-functional, multi-cultural, or globally distributed team collaboration. Demonstrable experience in a technical leadership role within a software team and for external engineering resources. Experience developing software on Linux and Windows host environments. Expert architecture and design skills such as functional decomposition, architectural viewpoints, UML/SYSML, and design patterns. Advanced knowledge and experience with implementation skills such as object-oriented programming, pair programming, memory management, distributed systems programming, multi-threaded programming, and on-target debugging. Expert knowledge of verification skills such as test-driven development, unit testing, code reviews, and defect characterization. Advanced requirement analysis and planning skills such as user story development, backlog management, high-level estimation, and detailed estimation. Expert knowledge of real time operating system concepts and experience in their use. Advanced configuration management skills such as revision control, continuous integration, continuous deployment, automated build systems, release management, and technical documentation. Working knowledge of modern development practices, exposure to agile methodology and experience with git and related flows. Advanced knowledge of electronics including micro-controllers, memory, and peripherals as well as in reading schematics and basic use of oscilloscopes/logic analysers. Ability to work autonomously with strategic direction as well as part of a cross-disciplinary, international, product development team and develop and deliver whole features through small groups of engineers using user stories and epics. Excellent interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills, with an ability to influence and build strong, credible relationships.
