legal partner embedded with development teams from the start — someone who can understand the business objectives, identify key
legal risks early, and find creative ways to maintain product momentum while managing those risks. We’re hiring a Product Counsel

AVAILABLE LOCATIONS * Austin, US * Washington DC, US ABOUT THE ROLE Cloudflare is seeking a lawyer with a passion for new technologies to join the Product Counsel team. The Product Counsel team serves as the frontline legal contact and helps solve some of the company’s thorniest issues. As a member of the team, you’ll wear many hats and lead cross-functional projects with meaningful impact. The ideal candidate brings deep enthusiasm for innovative technology and the ability to collaborate closely with product, engineering, and business teams throughout the software development and commercialization lifecycle. This role requires drafting and negotiating the technology transactions that fuel our products, such as our AI inference offerings. Through this work, you will help evaluate novel legal questions and craft practical solutions at the frontier of law and technology. As a member of the Product Counsel team, you will also support privacy-by-design reviews, document data flows for responsible AI counseling, and partner with the commercial legal team to address complex customer inquiries. RESPONSIBILITIES * Translate complex legal analysis into clear, actionable guidance for fast-moving product and engineering teams. * Proactively assess legal risks and advise product, engineering and business teams building services that reshape how information moves across the Internet—and the laws that govern it. * Review and architect legal frameworks for technology transactions related agreements, such as, technology partner agreements, inbound IP licensing agreements, and marketplace arrangements for Cloudflare’s developer platform. * Review marketing event agreements and support Cloudflare’s team with promotions and sweepstakes. * Draft terms of service, disclosures, policies, and related processes. * Apply privacy-by-design principles and partner with the privacy team on data-flow reviews, PIAs, and other privacy deliverables. * Solicit invention disclosures, support patent strategy, and protect Cloudflare’s trade secrets. * Partner with product and marketing teams on product marketing collateral and claim substantiation. * Build and refine processes that enable the Legal team to scale effectively as Cloudflare continues to expand. * Engage externally on behalf of Cloudflare in areas where you are a subject matter expert. DESIRABLE SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, AND EXPERIENCE * JD degree with strong academic credentials and admitted to practice law in at least one U.S. jurisdiction. * 3+ years of law firm and/or in-house experience, preferably with technology companies. Prior experience with Internet security and infrastructure companies is desired. * Technical background / expertise is highly desired. While a science or technical degree is not a prerequisite for this job, a passion for technologies is. * Experience with copyright law and Internet law is desired (e.g., AI Act, Data Act, net neutrality, DMCA, CFAA). * Strong communication skills and cooperative team player. For this role, the estimated base salary range is between $202,000 - $229,000. The actual base salary will vary based on various factors, including market and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process. The listed range above is a guideline, and the base salary range for this role may be modified. In addition to base salary, your compensation package may include additional components such as equity, sales incentive pay (for most sales roles), and benefits. Key responsibilities: * Advise on all legal matters related to product development and user experience, including consumer protection, e-commerce, auto-renewals, disclosures, advertising law, and platform-specific requirements (e.g., Apple, Google). * Partner cross-functionally with product managers, designers, marketing and content teams to provide clear and actionable legal guidance across multiple product lines and jurisdictions. * Review and advise on sign-up flows, cancellation flows, upsells, monetization models, and content use. * Monitor evolving global regulations (e.g. FTC, DSA, ROSCA, GPSR, UK DMCCA) and help translate them into product-ready compliance strategies. * Help shape and scale our legal processes, templates, and risk frameworks, in collaboration with privacy, content safety, and commercial legal teams. * Identify and mitigate legal risks early in the product lifecycle, and support creative problem-solving to enable smart innovation. Required skills: * Qualified lawyer (EU, or equivalent) with 4-6 years of experience, with some in-house experience at a tech or digital consumer company. * Experience with evolving global regulations with a strong focus on the EU and the US. * Strong knowledge of consumer protection laws, digital products, and regulatory frameworks affecting product design and marketing. * Experience working cross-functionally and influencing product and marketing decisions at scale. * Skilled at giving practical, risk-balanced legal advice under tight timelines. * A builder’s mindset, you love structure but can also thrive in ambiguity. * Familiarity with global subscription models, health tech, or wellness products is a plus. * A team player with high EQ and a natural curiosity for how products work.
