As an Internal AI Engineer at ElevenLabs, you'll be embedded at the frontier of how we scale - acting as a forward-deployed
engineer across our GTM, Operations, and Finance teams. You won't just build tools; you'll co-design and ship agentic AI workflows
that eliminate manual toil and fundamentally reshape how our people operate.

DIRECTOR, SOFTWARE ENGINEERING (HANDS-ON) WHAT YOU WILL DO As a hands-on Director of Software Engineering, you will lead high-performing engineering teams responsible for delivering secure, scalable, cloud-native solutions that drive customer outcomes and business growth. You will partner with Product Management, Architecture, and Executive Leadership to modernize our platform, accelerate delivery through AI, and ensure operational excellence. RESPONSIBILITIES * Partner with Product Management and senior leadership to define and execute the product and technology roadmap. * Lead the modernization of legacy applications and platforms, driving migration to cloud-native architectures and modern development frameworks. * Lead the evolution of a modern, cloud-native product while working with a compelling technology stack and solving complex engineering challenges at scale. * Own the technical roadmap, including architecture, security, reliability, scalability, performance, and technical debt reduction. * Provide hands-on technical leadership through architecture reviews, design discussions, technical decision-making, and engineering coaching. * Leverage AI-powered development and testing tools to improve engineering productivity, software quality, and speed of delivery; establish and measure outcomes using productivity and engineering KPIs. * Ensure predictable, high-quality delivery of customer commitments and product releases. * Drive operational excellence through robust incident management, root cause analysis, observability, and continuous improvement practices. * Champion modern DevOps practices including CI/CD, automated testing, infrastructure as code, and cloud automation. * Build, lead, coach, and develop engineering managers and engineers while fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and continuous learning. * Manage internal teams, contractors, and strategic technology partners to achieve business objectives. * Ensure compliance with corporate policies, industry regulations, and security standards. WHAT YOU WILL BRING REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS * Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field. * 12+ years of software engineering experience, including 5+ years leading engineering managers and software development teams. * Proven experience delivering and operating enterprise-scale software products in cloud environments. * Deep experience modernizing legacy applications, monolithic systems, and on-premise platforms into cloud-native architectures. * Strong expertise in Azure, .NET, C#, Angular, APIs, distributed systems, and modern software architecture patterns. * Experience building and operating CI/CD pipelines, automated testing frameworks, and DevOps practices. * Demonstrated success leading Agile software development organizations using Scrum or related methodologies. * Strong understanding of reliability engineering, application security, scalability, and performance optimization. * Experience implementing and measuring engineering effectiveness using DORA metrics, productivity KPIs, and operational metrics. * Deep understanding of AI-assisted software development and quality engineering tools. * Familiarity with Agentic AI platforms and practical applications of AI within enterprise software products. * Exceptional leadership, communication, organizational, and stakeholder management skills. Compensation for this role is in the form of base salary. This role does not have a variable compensation component. The typical starting salary range for new hires in this role is listed below.
