The opportunity Hitachi Energy is establishing an AI Center of Competence (CoC) to accelerate engineering productivity, improve design quality, and enable next-generation intelligent engineering solutions across civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, and software disciplines. The AI Lead Engineer will shape the vision, establish foundational capabilities (governance, platforms, operating model), and deliver early AI pilots that create tangible value for engineers and project teams. This is a hands-on leadership role combining technical depth, domain understanding, and strong stakeholder engagement. How you’ll make an impact Establish the AI Center of Competence from the ground up Define the mission, operating model, governance framework, and technical standards for responsible AI adoption. Build trusted partnerships with IT, cybersecurity, legal, and engineering leadership to ensure scalable, secure, and compliant AI deployment across disciplines. Deliver measurable engineering productivity gains within the first year Identify and execute 2–3 high impact AI pilots (e.g., engineering documentation automation, design knowledge retrieval, controls/code assistance) that demonstrably reduce engineering cycle time, improve quality, and free up expert capacity. Translate engineering pain points into deployable AI solutions Work hands-on with civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, and software teams to deeply understand workflows, tools (PLM, CAD, ERP, document systems), and constraints, turning real world challenges into practical, high value AI applications. Build AI-ready data foundations for long term scale Enable structured, governed, and discoverable engineering data by advancing data ownership, metadata standards, lineage tracking, and access control, laying the groundwork for advanced capabilities such as knowledge graphs and intelligent agents. Bridge strategy and execution in industrial AI adoption Act as a trusted advisor to engineering leadership, clearly articulating AI opportunities, risks, and ROI while personally leading prototyping, experimentation, and early deployment in enterprise environments. Shape the future of intelligent engineering at scale Define the roadmap beyond initial pilots, including AI assisted design reviews, engineering copilots, and cross disciplinary knowledge systems. Your background Strong expertise in applied AI and machine learning Proven experience designing and deploying AI solutions in enterprise environments, with particular depth in Generative AI, LLMs, NLP, and document intelligence. Experience building production grade AI systems Familiarity with the full AI lifecycle including data pipelines, model development, MLOps practices, and deployment on modern cloud platforms. Understanding of engineering or industrial environments Exposure to engineering heavy domains such as power systems, mechanical, electrical, controls, automation, or similar industrial contexts. Experience working with complex engineering systems and data Familiarity with tools and enterprise systems such as PLM, ERP, CAD/CAE, requirements management, or large scale document management environments. Strong stakeholder leadership and influence Demonstrated ability to collaborate across engineering, IT, and leadership teams, translating technical AI concepts into practical value for non-AI specialists. We are now looking for an experienced electrical design engineer within the traction area to join a global leader in transport technology in Västerås. About the role As a Traction Electrical Design Engineer, you will drive and support technical investigations and collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to deliver smart, innovative propulsion products to customers worldwide. You will be responsible for electrical design activities within the traction area, including circuit design, routine test documentation, interface definition, requirement analysis, and harness design. You will also plan and coordinate work related to this area. In this role, you will be part of all phases of the product life cycle – from design and validation to field support once the products are delivered to customers. Key responsibilities Design circuit diagrams and create routine test documentation for our propulsion products. Plan and lead the work of a small project team of engineers both onsite and offsite related to circuit design and routine test documentation. Design Harness Drive and support technical investigations and design activities related to this area. Define electrical interfaces. Collaborate with and support system engineering, manufacturing engineers and test engineers. Analyze customer requirements As part of the development team, perform one or more of the following development activities, design circuit diagrams, create test documentation, support routine test activities, design harnesses, support prototype and pre-series in production. Support product lead with bid support, analyzing requirements from customers or system architects and translate them into requirements related to this area Support other functions, colleagues with reviews. Your background Degree in Electrical Engineering or similar technical field Several years of experience in electrical design, circuit design, or traction/propulsion systems Experience working with technical investigations and requirement analysis Experience planning and leading technical work within a small engineering team or coordinating engineering activities in project environments Ability to collaborate cross-functionally Structured and solution-oriented mindset You have a passion for bringing both people and technical details together Strong communication skills in English.
