The Faculty of Engineering and Health Sciences provides education and conducts research in engineering, health and information design, with a clear focus on addressing societal challenges. Position description
The purpose of the position is to give the employee an early opportunity to develop his or her independence as a researcher and to create the conditions for further acquisitions of qualifications after completing the doctoral degree. The position is a temporary employment with a maximum period of 3 years.
The postdoc researcher position mainly involves research where the candidate will independently plan and carry out scientific studies in energy and environmental technology.
The position will be carried out within the framework of the research profile FEC (Future Energy Center), which means that the work will be carried out in close collaboration with industry partners and other researchers within the profile.
Renewable energy with a focus on solar and bioenergy and the integration of renewable energy in the energy system
Resource efficiency with a focus on energy efficiency, low emissions and recycling of nutrients and materials
Digitalization for energy efficiency and better environmental performance
The postdoctoral fellow is expected to take initiative, be creative and take responsibility. In addition, the work tasks interact closely with industrial partners. Therefore, the applicant needs to have good collaboration skills. The researcher also needs to be able to disseminate and communicate scientific results and knowledge within existing and new networks, which includes academia, industry and society at large. The research results will be presented at project meetings, conferences and in peer-reviewed scientific journals.
As a postdoctoral fellow, you are expected to take responsibility for planning and implementing your studies, take your own initiatives to develop your ideas and knowledge, and be able to collaborate with others both within and outside academia. Teaching or other assignments may be included in the position to a maximum of 20%.
As a postdoctoral fellow, you will also be part of the research group Future Energy, where you are expected to contribute to the development of the group.
Qualification requirements
The applicant is required to have a PhD degree in energy engineering. The applicant must have completed the degree no more than three years before the end of the application period. You have not previously held a position as a postdoctoral researcher in the same or related subject area at MDU that exceeds one year.
The candidate should be able to show research experience in national and/or international projects on process modelling and simulations, including both steady state and dynamic modelling and techno-economic analysis and good command of written and spoken English.
The candidate should be able to demonstrate good collaborative skills, capacity to organize and conduct work activities independently, experience of or openness to interdisciplinarity as well as a propositional attitude.
Assessment criteria
Good knowledge in thermal conversion of biomass, such as gasification and pyrolysis
Good programming skills in MATLAB, Aspen Plus, Modelica, etc
Good knowledge of data driven methods for modelling and optimization
Good knowledge of AI
Experiences in scientific publications other than the thesis
Experiences in writing project applications and leading projects

The position(s) will be based in the Energy Technology and Policy group which develops methods to evaluate the realism of energy and climate futures. About the research project The Energy Technology and Policy group (http://www.entap.net/) is recruiting up to 2 postdoctoral researchers on technology foresight for policy-driven low-carbon technologies. The postdoctoral position will focus on developing data-driven approaches for probabilistic modelling of new technologies, both established technologies like solar and wind as well as emerging technologies like hydrogen. The positions will be linked to a number of national projects and embedded in the ENTAP group, with a strong international network and tradition of interdisciplinary collaboration through shared work spaces and a joint seminars.
