You will be part of Network Control, which provides leading network control systems for managing planned and unplanned outages, generation, transmission, and distribution systems, SCADA and process control solutions, as well as tools for commercial energy management. Our solutions meet the most critical needs of power and energy utilities. You will work as a project Lead Engineer, in project deliveries of Network Manager. Network Manager is Hitachi Energy’s SCADA/EMS/GMS system. The opportunity We are seeking a Control Lead Engineer to Join our experienced team at Power Quality and help to enable the green transition in the worldwide energy market by delivering solutions from our market-leading FACTS portfolio. In this role, you will be able to combine your technical skills with your leadership skills. You will lead a subproject team of control engineers within the areas of Control Applications, SCADA, HMI, Network, and Cyber Security and at the same time technically contribute to one or several of the above areas depending on your expertise. The team works with everything from design and implementation to verification and commissioning of control systems to meet customer requirements in delivering solutions. The opportunity Hitachi Energy is establishing an AI Center of Competence (CoC) to accelerate engineering productivity, improve design quality, and enable next-generation intelligent engineering solutions across civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, and software disciplines. The AI Lead Engineer will shape the vision, establish foundational capabilities (governance, platforms, operating model), and deliver early AI pilots that create tangible value for engineers and project teams. This is a hands-on leadership role combining technical depth, domain understanding, and strong stakeholder engagement. How you’ll make an impact Establish the AI Center of Competence from the ground up Define the mission, operating model, governance framework, and technical standards for responsible AI adoption. Build trusted partnerships with IT, cybersecurity, legal, and engineering leadership to ensure scalable, secure, and compliant AI deployment across disciplines. Deliver measurable engineering productivity gains within the first year Identify and execute 2–3 high impact AI pilots (e.g., engineering documentation automation, design knowledge retrieval, controls/code assistance) that demonstrably reduce engineering cycle time, improve quality, and free up expert capacity. Translate engineering pain points into deployable AI solutions Work hands-on with civil, mechanical, electrical, controls, and software teams to deeply understand workflows, tools (PLM, CAD, ERP, document systems), and constraints, turning real world challenges into practical, high value AI applications. Build AI-ready data foundations for long term scale Enable structured, governed, and discoverable engineering data by advancing data ownership, metadata standards, lineage tracking, and access control, laying the groundwork for advanced capabilities such as knowledge graphs and intelligent agents. Bridge strategy and execution in industrial AI adoption Act as a trusted advisor to engineering leadership, clearly articulating AI opportunities, risks, and ROI while personally leading prototyping, experimentation, and early deployment in enterprise environments. Shape the future of intelligent engineering at scale Define the roadmap beyond initial pilots, including AI assisted design reviews, engineering copilots, and cross disciplinary knowledge systems. Your background Strong expertise in applied AI and machine learning Proven experience designing and deploying AI solutions in enterprise environments, with particular depth in Generative AI, LLMs, NLP, and document intelligence. Experience building production grade AI systems Familiarity with the full AI lifecycle including data pipelines, model development, MLOps practices, and deployment on modern cloud platforms. Understanding of engineering or industrial environments Exposure to engineering heavy domains such as power systems, mechanical, electrical, controls, automation, or similar industrial contexts. Experience working with complex engineering systems and data Familiarity with tools and enterprise systems such as PLM, ERP, CAD/CAE, requirements management, or large scale document management environments. Strong stakeholder leadership and influence Demonstrated ability to collaborate across engineering, IT, and leadership teams, translating technical AI concepts into practical value for non-AI specialists.
