We are looking for a research scientist with expertise experimental applied physics to join the Applied Physics team at our research center in Västerås, Sweden. You will lead multidisciplinary research projects developing cutting-edge technologies for future Hitachi Energy products.
How you'll make an impact
Together with your colleagues, solve challenging R&D problems using a combination of analytical, computational and experimental methods.
With support from operation specialists, test and validate your ideas by building prototypes, and experiments in the labs or on pilot units.
Build your network in the company and actively disseminate your results in presentations, technical reports, patent applications, and scientific publications.
Work closely with our global multidisciplinary team of researchers and operation specialists in Hitachi Energy Research, our business units, universities and industrial partners.
Propose and lead technology development projects to bring innovative new ideas from concepts to solutions ready for handover to the R&D product development teams.
Learn about Hitachi Energy products. Identify issues, possible improvements and challenge established designs.
Keep up with the latest development from competitors and academia, to contribute to shaping Hitachi Energy’s technology strategy.
Continuously learn new methodologies and tools within your competence area and apply them to Hitachi Energy’s products and applications.
Your background
PhD in physics, preferably with a focus in high-voltage or dielectrics.
Excellent leadership and communication skills, team player attitude, initiative, and creativity.
Fluent in English, both written and spoken.
Experience with high voltage insulation systems.
Hands‑on experience measuring high‑field phenomena, including partial discharge, electrical breakdown, electromagnetic fields, and shockwaves in gaseous or liquid environments.
Hands-on experience using instruments such as voltage and current probes, photodiodes, silicon photomultipliers, scientific cameras (high speed or high sensitivity), oscilloscope, lock in amplifiers, custom optical setups (e.g. shadowgraphy, polarimetry).
Experience with numerical or multiphysics simulation tools, such as COMSOL, CST, ANSYS, or comparable open‑source packages.
Experience with data analysis using scripting languages such as Python or Matlab.
Experience designing and procuring simple mechanical parts or electronics using CAD / EDA engineering tools.
Experience or interest developing machine learning application.
