As a Senior Android Developer, you’ll collaborate with a dynamic, cross-functional team of Product Managers, Product Designers, Engineering Managers, and fellow engineers. About the role We’re evolving toward a Kotlin Multiplatform (KMP) strategy, enabling shared development across Android and iOS. In this role, you’ll learn, refine, and help implement this technology, shaping the future of our mobile apps. What you’ll do * Build new features for the item catalog within the SumUp SuperApp * Help improve the architecture of the application and contribute to our Kotlin Multiplatform strategy * Enhance and maintain our unified android app, distributed across 60+ countries, ensuring high-quality, scalable solutions * Shape the product’s evolution by identifying opportunities for improvement and contributing to daily decision-making * Write thorough documentation and implement robust testing for features before shipping * Collaborate closely with Designer, Product Manager and Android engineers to deliver a unified UX experience across platforms You’ll thrive in this role if: * You have 8+ years experience in mobile engineering with Android and Kotlin. * You have 2+ years of experience working with Jetpack Compose. * You have a solid understanding of software design patterns (e.g., MVVM, MVI) and expertise in building modular, scalable app architectures. * You have good knowledge of reactive programming (Flow, Coroutines and Concurrency). * You have a strong grasp of testing best practices: knowing what to test, why, and how to write resilient tests. * You strive for clean code, and you are flexible to balance pragmatism and perfection. * You have a keen interest in multi-platform development using Kotlin Multiplatform. This role focuses on CI/CD Engineering, ensuring smooth and efficient software development and deployment processes, with a key area being Android / iOS development. You will be instrumental in creating and maintaining CI/CD systems and developing infrastructure tooling, essentially acting as the "glue" that binds code and infrastructure together. The position involves working on CI/CD for Android and iOS app development. The primary function is developing tools and applications to manage and interact with the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC) to provide an elevated SDLC experience for the organization. This work involves close collaboration with developers, as well as teams building our on-premises infrastructure, including Kubernetes clusters, the Hashicorp stack, and our private cloud. You will be pivotal in ensuring our software development and deployment processes are smooth and efficient by creating and maintaining CI/CD systems and developing infrastructure tooling.   WHAT YOU’LL DO * Design and implement CI/CD pipelines for Android and iOS applications using tools like GitLab CI, Gradle, KMP, Develocity and Android Native Plugin. * Automate build processes for multiple build variants, flavors, and configurations * Configure build caching and optimization to reduce build times * Configure code quality checks, static analysis, and security scanning * Configure emulators and device farms for automated testing * Integrate monitoring and alerting for tooling health * Set up automated testing frameworks including unit tests, integration tests, and UI tests   WHO YOU ARE You are a DevOps or Infrastructure Engineer with a passion for mobile development. You enjoy figuring out "how things work" under the hood and are eager to bridge the gap between writing code and deploying it. You don’t just want to build apps; you want to build the engines that power them. * 5+ years of experience in DevOps or Infrastructure Engineering. * An Analytical Problem Solver: You have a logical approach to troubleshooting and aren't afraid to dive into build logs to find a failing root cause. * Mobile Enthusiast: You have a foundational understanding of either Android (Gradle/Kotlin) or iOS (Xcode/Swift) and are excited to become an expert in both. * Automation Mindset: You find manual, repetitive tasks frustrating and have a natural urge to script them away using Python, Bash, or Kotlin Script. * Autonomous yet Collaborative: You are comfortable working independently on complex tasks but stay in sync with a team of other dedicated engineers. * Quality Focused: You understand that a good CI/CD pipeline is the first line of defense for code quality and stability. About the role As an Android Engineer in SumUp's Hardware Tribe, you will be part of one of our small and highly skilled cross-functional teams and work together with Product Managers, Backend Engineers, iOS Engineers, Product Designers, and more. You will also be part of and collaborate on a global level with the broader Mobile chapter. You will deal with a variety of topics ranging from improving reliability of Bluetooth implementation within the Android SumUp app and the SumUp SDK, to implementing user-facing features such as screens to interact with card readers, to collaborating on developing technical roadmaps.
