"Detection and Quantification of Multiple Faults in Residential Heat Pumps” Would you like to work with one of Sweden's strongest brands and be involved in developing the next generation of NIBE products and smart heat pumps? NIBE AB is now recruiting a talented student with a master degree in science to work as an industrial PhD student on smart heat pumps. We are now looking for an industrial PhD student, interested in technology and wants to work on developing sustainable climate solutions. The position will be shared in between Sweden and France. At NIBE's head office, you will work in an international environment with a world-class product portfolio that requires both intensive and high-quality product development. Description of the subject and the position To make these smart heat pumps a reality a heat pump manufacturer, an electricity utility company and a technical university specialized in energy efficiency systems have joined forces to propose an industrial postgraduate student position. Based on previous works, the PhD student will explore the real time assessment of residential heat pump operation, facing one major or several simultaneous faults. This work will include theoretical analysis of heat pump operation, detailed modelling using Dymola software and laboratory testing of real systems installed in climatic chambers. The PhD student will beneficiate from the knowledge and experience of the three partners and be given a unique chance to acquire strong and valuable expertise in control systems, thermodynamics, heat transfer, laboratory testing and modelling. He/She will be part of the Product Development team, which is a high-tech advanced product development department with around 150 employees in the fields of mechanics, electricity/electronics, cooling technology, lab, control & regulation, audio optimization, etc. Presentation of the three partners NIBE AB NIBE AB is a successful modern company located in Markaryd, Sweden, with a turnover of just over SEK 5 billion/year and almost 1,250 employees. Mines Paris trains engineers and hosts several research centers, one focusing on energy efficiency of systems. The high-level research centers of Mines Paris attract highly qualified PhD and professors and will serve as the academic supervisor and ensure support at a high scientific level. General features about the overall organization The PhD student will be employed by NIBE AB and administratively attached to Mines Paris which will serve as the entity behind the academic examination. Most of the experimental and practical work will be done on the test benches at EDF R&D facilities near Paris. The PhD director will be a professor from Mines Paris and the PhD student will beneficiate from the support of one supervisor from EDF R&D and one supervisor from NIBE AB. The PhD study is planned for three years. Part of the work, around 50%, will be done at NIBE AB premises in Markaryd. The remaining time will be spent in France, at EDF R&D premises at Les Renardières and at Mines Paris. The exact time share in between the three locations is to be defined as well as its distribution over the 3 years. Background of the candidate We are looking for a responsible person with a master degree in science who is passionate about heat pump technology, electricity and compliance. You are creative, independent and not afraid of taking initiatives. You have relevant training, education and/or experience in this area. Bosch Thermoteknik in Tranås is looking for a structured and driven LVD Certification Specialist to strengthen our product development organization. In this role, you will be our internal expert and key contact for electrical safety and certification under the Low Voltage Directive. Your technical expertise and ability to interpret and apply complex standards will directly support the successful certification and market launch of our products. Your main responsibility will be to ensure that our heat pumps meet all relevant electrical safety requirements and successfully complete the certification process for CE marking. Your responsibilities • Define certification and testing requirements for products and components. • Review supplier certificates, technical documentation, and test reports to ensure compliance with applicable standards. • Lead technical discussions with suppliers, laboratories, and external test institutes regarding requirements, test methods, and results. • Plan, perform, and document LVD and electrical safety tests in our internal laboratory. • Coordinate testing activities with external certification bodies and test institutes. • Perform practical testing according to relevant sections of EN 60335-2-40, including clauses 10, 11, 13, and 19. • Manage our Customer's Test Facility agreement, including annual audits, documentation, and calibration of test equipment. • Support development teams throughout the product development process and proactively identify potential certification risks. • Act as the company expert for LVD certification and ensure that our products receive final approval. Qualifications What distinguishes you You are structured, analytical, and comfortable working with detailed technical standards and documentation. You enjoy solving complex technical questions and can communicate requirements clearly to different stakeholders. We believe you have: • A relevant technical degree, such as Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a comparable field. • Practical experience with the Low Voltage Directive and CE marking. • Strong knowledge of electrical safety standards, preferably EN 60335. • Experience interpreting and applying technical standards, regulations, and requirement documents. • Experience performing, evaluating, and documenting electrical safety tests. • Strong communication skills and the confidence to set requirements internally and externally. • Good English skills, as you will work with international documentation, suppliers, and partners. What we do at Blykalla Blykalla is a Swedish deep-tech company at the forefront of the nuclear industry, pioneering the development of small modular reactors that provide clean, safe, and reliable energy. Thanks to lead-cooling, we achieve high safety in a very compact format, allowing for a simple and cost-effective design that can be mass-produced. Our unique reactor design will provide safe and green baseload energy that perfectly complements solar and wind power. What you’ll get to do As a Rotating Machine Lead Engineer, you will own the rotating equipment portfolio of the SEALER plant — from the Primary Coolant Pumps (PCPs) submerged in molten lead above 400 °C, where conventional bearing and sealing solutions don't apply, to the secondary-side feedwater and condensate pumps and the full set of auxiliary and safety-related pumps the plant requires. It is a technically demanding portfolio that spans genuinely novel engineering on the primary side and rigorous nuclear-grade discipline throughout: Define functional and design requirements for the full rotating equipment portfolio — PCPs in molten lead, secondary-side feedwater and condensate pumps, and all auxiliary, safety-related, and service pumps. Develop design basis documentation and lead trade-off studies on pump configuration, drive arrangement, sealing strategy, and bearing technology. Set priorities across the portfolio — distinguishing where Blykalla-specific engineering is warranted from where standard industrial solutions suffice. Act as Blykalla's technical counterpart to pump suppliers and engineering partners, challenging design choices and steering solutions to fit plant requirements across hydraulics, sealing, materials, and maintainability. Define the scope of hydraulic, rotordynamic, and structural analyses; brief specialists; and critically review their outputs. Use hand calculations to sanity-check results. Own supplier work packages: evaluate proposals, lead design reviews, and keep pump development aligned with plant requirements and schedule. Support test rig development when needed to advance tailor-made pumping solutions. Collaborate across internal teams and with academic and industrial partners. Who’ll you’ll get to work with The Rotating Machine Lead Engineer sits in the Fluid Systems Engineering Team within Blykalla, and reports to the Manager of Fluids Engineering. We are a diverse team that is passionate about our work and Blykalla. Who you are You will be part of a highly skilled team with a can-do attitude. There are however a few things that we think will help for you to succeed in this role, these are: More than 5 years of professional experience as a rotating equipment engineer. Degree in mechanical, energy, nuclear, or a closely related discipline. A meaningful portion of your experience at a pump manufacturer or rotating equipment OEM, ideally in a role combining hydraulic and mechanical design with workshop and field interface, or equivalent experience as a discipline lead on the operator or EPC side. Strong working knowledge of centrifugal and/or axial pump design, including rotordynamics, bearing selection, mechanical seals or seal-less concepts, and applicable design codes and standards such as API 610, API 682, ASME III, PED, or RCC-M. Hydraulic and mechanical fundamentals sufficient to steer and critically review calculations performed by specialists, including the ability to perform hand calculations on head, NPSH, power, and basic rotordynamics to sanity-check results. Comfort writing clear technical specifications, reviewing supplier deliverables critically, and managing a multi-vendor technical dialogue from concept through qualification. Familiarity with CAD tools and engineering software. Fluent in English, spoken and written. Fluency in Swedish is a plus. Meritorious skills: Hands-on experience with heavy liquid metal pumps (lead, lead-bismuth, sodium). Experience with reactor coolant pumps in light-water reactors. Experience with high-pressure feedwater or boiler feed pumps in conventional or nuclear steam plants. Familiarity with magnetic drives, canned-motor pumps, or other seal-less concepts. Experience with rotordynamic, CFD, or FEA analyses; the priority is the ability to define, commission, and review such analyses rather than execute them.
